Down on the Farm
The sun shines brightly on the barn and the pond. The dog plays. The duck swims. The cat naps. And the hen flaps. It’s a fun-filled day down on the farm for an exuberant young girl and her many friends. Rita Lascaro’s cut-paper collage illustrations add a colorful dimension to the busy activities of farm life.

I was mildly disappointed that after observing and imitating a dog at play, a cat at rest, and a duck going for a swim, the girl decided not to imitate a cow being milked.

A cute easy read for beginning readers in kindergarten and first grade. On a spread of pages, the same words are used on both pages just in different order, helping the children grasp the words. The pictures used give clues to help students figure out the words.

Children are prompted to move and pretend in a variety of motions in this very simple easy reader for beginners.

This is a level one Green Light Reader so it is good for beginning readers. However, the repetitiveness of the book does not seem to be conducive to teaching reading skills as much as I would have liked.

Just a few words on every page with a picture that helps the young reader learn the words.

Good repetition for young readers.
