Bittersweets - Oscar and Lisa

Rate this book
What is the one thing your lover says to you that works immediately? Lisa discovered he didn't even have to speak. It was love at first sight when she touched Oscar for the first time.
Nurse Lisa Penn's mother hoped she'd meet a doctor to marry at work, but fate had something else in mind. Never expecting to find romance in the ICU, Lisa knew when patient Oscar Butler was admitted after a near-fatal motorcycle accident, that he might be the love of her life. A chance meeting a few months later would bring them together again. But Oscar's determination not to rush into love, hoping that taking their time will make it last causes Lisa to have second thoughts. Will waiting for that perfect moment to take their relationship to the next level ever come, or does fate have other ideas?

Love, parted, love again…

This is a romance between Oscar and Lisa, a biker, and the ICU nurse who cared for him in the hospital when he almost died in a bad accident. There were some nice romance scenes but overall I really did not get into the story. I thought the scene between Oscar and Terry at the wedding shower was disingenuous. Terry hates Oscar all this time and suddenly she is overcome with remorse and crying because he is so wonderful. This is not one of my favorite books by this author who I normally really enjoy.

Bittersweets - Oscar and Lisa - a review by Rosemary Kenny

When seriously-injured motorcyclist Oscar Butler is admitted to the ICU, where nurse Lisa Penn works, she feels a frisson of pleasure, but is totally professional in her duty of care for her patient.
Oscar's a bit of a 'Jack the Lad' and rough around the edges - not Lisa's usual 'type' - but when they meet some months after his discharge and return to full health, she hopes for romance. On the other hand Oscar's been hurt before and hides a secret close to his heart. Seeing his hesitation as rejection, the sensitive medical professional decides to seek consolation and romance elsewhere.
Can the duo reconcile their differences and achieve an HEA? Or will Oscar's kind nature and care for Lisa's happiness before his own, make him sacrifice all they could be to each other and forget the woman he thought might be 'the One'?
Get your copy today and settle back for a romance with more twists and turns than a Chubby Checker dance-athon, that will remind you of your first love and warm your heart accordingly!

This is the 3rd book I read by Suzanne Jenkins. I was into this story. I felt sorry for Oscar. I didn't feel the the chemistry, passion, or romance.

I thought I would read this thinking it would be a sweet romance. I was disappointed at the sudden ending and lack of any epilogue. The main characters don't sleep together but they do both sleep with someone else and spend the last couple chapters apart and there is one last sentence before "The End" Nothing tied up, but no cliffhanger either, nothing even said between the main characters. Not a fan, requested a refund.

Real love is very different

Lisa nursed Oliver back to health after a bus crashed into him on his motor cycle. She fell in love with him as soon as she met him. Once released from hospital they started to date. They were blissfully happy!
However, she was disappointed that he wanted to wait until they were married. Respect for her was his reason. Sadly, she had inherited enough of her mothers snobbery to desperately want a big stone unaffordable house.
Her snobbish mother could not bear her younger daughter to marry him because he was a mechanic, therefore not good enough for their professional family. She did not care how much they loved each other. I loved that Oliver remained very respectful to her mother, even sitting with her in hospital all night to allow her husband and daughter to sleep after she had a heart attack.
Martha, Lisa's mother, despised him.
She slyly introduced her daughter to a handsome doctor even going as far as to invite him to live in their home.
Eventually Lisa broke up with Oliver to do what her mother demanded, not understanding her mother's narcisstic ways. Her mother's way was all that counted.
Both Lisa and Oliver were miserable despite being partnered to other people.
I loved the surprise ending, but especially her dad's belated role. So nice when a man is a man!

I love Oscar!

Oscar is hard working, smart, and loyal. Lisa seems superficial. Her feelings for Oscar seem nonexistent. She moves on to a physical relationship with Louie 2 weeks after she breaks up with Oscar. She's ultra materialistic, partially due to her mother's influence.
