The cover of this book caught my attention because I love cats. Knowing that Cate Conte is a new pen name for Liz Mugavero (Pawsitively Organic Mysteries) made this story a must read!

Cate Conte debuts a delightful new cozy series that I devoured from cover to cover. I liked the way the story began at Maddie's Grandma's burial, and the way fate seemed to unite the stray orange cat with the protagonist, Maddie, who's a cat lover. The first whispers of trouble for the family are also heard in the

I thoroughly enjoyed this cozy mystery. The story and characters held my interest.
Maddie returns to her hometown, Daybreak Island in New England to attend a funeral. She rescues a stray cat that serves as her sidekick as she tries to solve a murder mystery. The cat doesn't talk, just meows-the book isn't overly cutesy. This is the first book in the series and I look forward to reading the next when it is released.

I’m really excited about this new series by Cate Conte (aka accomplished Agatha-nominated author Liz Mugavero). Her love of rescue animals shines through in all of her books. You can feel the passion she has for each of them in reality and in the cozy mystery world. Her characters are vivid and come to life on each page. You will feel like you have known these characters forever and feel an instant connection. That doesn’t always happen with the first book in a series, it usually takes time to ...more

What a fun new mystery series! Cate Conte (aka accomplished Agatha-nominated author Liz Mugavero) creates a fictional New England island, gives us glimpses into the protagonist's close-knit family, sets up not one but two possible loves for Maddie James, and leads us through the twists and turns of a well-told murder investigation. Her adopted cat JJ is a nice touch, too, prancing through town on a leash. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Argh, I both love and hate starting a new cozy mystery series. I love how awesome this one was, but when I check the release for book two, it's still ages away :( Oh well, something to look forward to I suppose...

Now it SAYS it's a Cat Cafe Mystery, but nothing occurs on that front in this book. The Cat Cafe is in the future, but you can see the set up here. Also well set up is the setting, the character and the two very interesting romantic leads. I also can't wait to read about Ethan, Maddie's

This book is my second favorite book, I have read this year. I am looking forward to reading more about Maddie James and the Orange cat that adopted her at her at her Grandmother 's funeral. Maddie named the cat, JJ. One evening strolling through the food fair JJ jumps the role barriers and Maddie chased after him, only to find him under a tablecloth staring at the town bully, Frank O'Malley. The local newspaper ran the story about JJ finding the murdered man and JJ becomes a hero, he attracts ...more

This weekend I finished Cat About Town a new book by Cate Conte. This is a lovely first in series for a cozy mystery, cat book lover like me. The main character Maddie James comes home to attend her grandmother's funeral and finds things are not quite as she left them, out of sight out of mind. Staying with her Grandfather who is the town's old police chief, Maddie finds out that someone has been threatening her Grandfather and trying to force him to sell the family home. I loved the ...more

So this was cute, but it was also kind of..... "meh".

There are sooo many cat cozies out there. I tend to stay away from most of them, but this one looked so cute I decided to give it a go. It's nothing special, but I did enjoy it. .... J.J. (the cover cat) is adorable, and his human, Maddie, is easy to like. I also enjoyed the backdrop of Daybreak Harbor, a small island town off the coast of Massachusetts. This was a quick, fluffy read if you like cozy mysteries (and cats!), but don't

This cozy felt canned and formulaic to me from beginning to end. It had several semi-amusing elements that were quickly overshadowed by some less interesting element. The characters were either stereotypical or just unlikable.

Maddie is home on Daybreak Island for her grandma’s funeral, staying with her grandpa at his old homestead. But even while coping with the loss of her grandma, Maddie’s concern is centered on her grandpa. Her mom thinks he may be having some memory problems, because he is being evasive about certain things. Maddie is taken into his confidence, and he explains that someone is trying to force him to sell his home for its land. When this person turns up dead, Maddie and her grandpa head the list of ...more

Cat About Town by Cate Conte is a new to me cozy series. It reminded me greatly of the Sunny and Shadow series, which I really loved and have finished. Maddie James as returned home for a funeral and to spend time with her family. Her beloved Grandfather is being pressured (by evil developers of course) to sell the family home. When a murder occurs and accusations begin flying around, Maddie investigates trying to solve the murders before the body count gets too high. I would say this was okay, ...more

It was pretty good... not great. It stared out good and was mildly enjoyable but I started getting bored in the middle. I ended up skimming to the last chapter about 2/3 of the way through.

It seems that the author needs to work on her craft a bit more because there’s a lot of potential here. Hey! Look at Jenny Colgan. The difference between her first set of books and “Mure” series is a good example of this. Anyway, I’ll try this author again when she’s written another book.

An intriguing murder plot and great characters who were very realistic made this a fun read. The cats add to all the fun.

I thought this was a well-plotted cozy mystery with a charming setting and inviting characters. It did not read as a first in a series as the writing and pace kept me engaged and turning pages until the very end. I think the author also did a terrific job of using this book to set up the Cat Cafe theme for future books. I was delightfully entertained by Maddie, her Grandpa and JJ, and will be back to see what this author has in story for this series.

A full review will be posted on my blog closer

A delightful beginning to a new series. Maddie James and the cat, JJ, are both fun characters. The setting -- an island off the Massachusetts coast -- is inviting, and as a reader who lives in a tourist town, I can say the portrayal is quite realistic. Solidly plotted and written. Looking forward to the next installment!

Cat About Town by Cate Conte is a purr-fect book.

I felt a connection with the main character, Maddie James right from the start.
With the story opening at a funeral and her grandfather asking for help, I was intrigued from the beginning.

Some prominent people in this quaint New England town are being killed. When Maddie's grandpa becomes a suspect, she begins to sort the pieces of the mystery, putting the puzzle together swiftly and accurately.

The ending was fantastic and I absolutely love J.J.

This was such a fun setting and mystery! I just loved that Maddie came to help her grandpa and ended up staying there. I hope the next book reveals the mysterious benefactor.

She was staying with her Grandpa Leo, who had been the town's former chief of police and found out that the president of the chamber of commerce was badgering him to sell his home that had been in their family for

I love Liz Mugavero's Pawsitively Organic series, so when I heard she was doing a new series as Cate Conte I was excited and preordered it. Well last week I was lucky enough to win an advanced readers copy and I was not disappointed!!!!!

The book had a great premise, I couldn't wait to hear about the orange cat and the Massachusetts town.
The story was just ok. Its odd but lately I feel like every cozy is like the next. Its a story Ive read before, at least it felt that way. I also felt that the book deff lacked in descriptions. There are a lot of convos and the chapters are short which I like, but I needed more description on the town and on its people. I felt the cat should have been even more involved in the mystery than he
