When the wrong person's murdered, just who was the intended victim of death by chocolate cake?

Was it the retired mobster, Al De Duco? Could it have been an act of jealousy by his ex-girlfriend, Kitten Knight, or an act of revenge by Mario Carlucci, a long-time enemy of his from Al's days with the Mafia in Chicago?

Or was the intended victim Al's wife of two weeks, Cassie,

I loved Al De Duco in the last of the Northwest series--a criminal with a heart of gold! He has given up his life of crime and married Cassie who he had fallen head over heels in love with at first sight. They were going out with their friends Jake and DeeDee to an exclusive French Restaurant. They were both excited to announce their marriage. Because Cassie wrote a food column the restaurant reserved Table 12 for them. At the last minute Al decided he did not want to sit at that table so they w ...more

Excellent story! I couldn’t put it down. When I first started, I only had a few minutes but didn’t realize how hard I would be sucked into the book! I wound up reading it more than doing work I needed to do or sleeping. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and won’t be the last. I just loved the characters. Al was my favorite. I’d like to see a series done about his time in the mafia. Hint hint, Ms Harman. At first, I thought oh goody, we get to see who is doing the killing so this wi ...more

In this series DeeDee’s good friend Cassie marries Al, a character from a previous book. DeeDee and her beau, Jake meet up for a BD dinner with Cassie and Al. A murder occurs at the restaurant they’re dining at. Coincidentally, Cassie who part times as a food critic, was suppose to dining at that particular table. DeeDee, Jake, Cassie, Al and a new character Luke all get caught up in solving this murder. You know who the suspects are and one by one the suspects are dropped. There is suspense; in ...more

This was a very interesting cozy mystery because not only did it have the main character, DeeDee being told by her friend Cassie that she went to Las Vegas with the man who she just started dating who is a retire mobster, Al De Duco but also got married while in Las Vegas. DeeDee and Luke invite Cassie and Al out to dinner at Le Bijou Bistro where DeeDee is suppose to do a review of the restaurant and they now get a table for four. Big surprise, the table for two where Cassie and Al were suppose ...more

I don't give a lot of five star reviews

I don't give a lot of five star reviews, but this mystery story is definitely better plotted and better written than a lot of cozy mysteries that I have given four star reviews to. I love this author and this series, and this author has always been able to turn out well plotted and well crafted stories that keep getting better the more she writes.

I love the full cast of characters in this story, with all the connections between them. It highlights the odd t

What a thrilling novel from an author that I have been dying to read! I especially loved big Al a retired mobster with a quirky sense of humor and long reaching arms to protect those dear to him! Al and Cassie had married in Las Vegas where he daughter thought it was too soon after her father's death. Al, Cassie his wife, DeDe and Jake met at a restaurant where Cassie made a reservation but Al requested another table. All of a sudden the couple at their old table, a woman was choking a fell onto ...more

Another stellar whodunit by Dianne Harman. Dee Dee and Jake are dining with Cassie and Al when the unthinkable happens--yes murder! Realizing that the woman died at the table meant for them makes Cassie and Al think they were the real targets. The suspect list is long of people who might have reason to rub either the food critic or the former mobster out. Can Jake and Dee Dee solve the crime before the killer hits their target? Great suspenseful writing. Love Al as a regular character in the ser ...more

"A Very Entertaining Cozy Mystery"

Who would dare use chocolate cake to murder someone? Was it done out of jealousy or revenge? Why would someone want to murder newly married Cassie, a very popular restaurant critic? Oh, and there is more ... why is Cassie's daughter, Briana, kidnapped? Lot's of mysteries to be solved here, so you best set some treats beside you as your scurry through this intoxicating cozy mystery. I loved it!

Another awesome book

I just can't get enough of Dianne Harman, I love all the characters in her books but I especially like the addition to Al to these stories, it really gives it a twist. Even though I'm a cat person, I do love dogs and I like the idea of dogs in every book, Baltimore has become a main character himself. Again great book and I will be patiently waiting for more

Murder at Le Bijou Bistro

Interesting fast read centered around Seattle, nearby islands and a cyanide poisoning. (Strange combination). Tons of characters woven into this setting. Kept reading if only to see how the author would bring them all together! Quick read. Will look for others by same author set in Pacific NW.

The main characters are DeeDee, Cassie, Jake and Al . They go out to dinner and ask for a different table than what put aside for them. When the girl who end up at that table ends up dead from poison before they leave, they start looking for who did it and who it was meant for. Can they figure this out before anyone else gets hurt ?

I didn’t see that coming and I like to be surprised. I like Ms Harman’s style of writing. She presents several people and their reasons for wanting to harm somebody or get rid of someone. And then she usually has Jake and Rob investigate. Everything usually follows the timeline. I really enjoyed this book.

Another great installment

These books are fun to read. I'm beginning to be able to figure out who the killer is before the end. But I still love the characters and the way they come to the solution.

Not a fan of cozy mysteries, I read this for a challenge. Are readers not concerned about the lack of follow through with story lines in these things? Reminds me that sometimes challenges are to be avoided when books such as this type are on it. Sorry. I tried.

cozy series books are a great read. Always a great couple with a dog(s) she cooks and he is in law enforcement. Then there is a murder and a few likely suspects. Usually you can figure out who the killer is but it does not take away from the book. They are always a quick good read.
I so enjoy them
