Dray Prescot #32

Seg the Bowman (Dray Prescot, #32)

Rate this book
Here's a special treat for everyone who loves novels of high adventure on exotic worlds in the tradition of Burroughs and Norman. For this is such a novel, complete in itself, of Dray Prescot's fighting comrade, Seg, the finest archer of two worlds. Seg is a wild and reckless fellow, courageous in the face of any adversity, and this is the account of his greatest challenge. Single-handed, on an enemy island, Seg becomes knight-protector of the mysterious lady Milsi, and by her side, beats off frightful beasts and inhuman foemen intent on blocking her path to a rightful royal inheritance. It's action science fiction, heroic fantasy, and high romance under the twin suns of Antares in Scorpio.

I am re-reading this series which I last read about 15 years ago. I have the first 37 books in paperback that I have collected since they were published. I have gotten some of the additional books as e-books that I have never read. This series started as a take-off on Burrough's John Carter of Mars books, but grew to massive proprtions. The world of Antares or Kregen is large and full of amazing life forms. Dray Prescott is brought from Earth to serve several mysterious forces and the books chronicle his efforts. Seg the Bowman is about Dray's closest friend, Seg Segatorio. At 250 pages, it is the longest of the books at this point. These books are full of sword play, supernaural events and many races of people, vast zmounts of flora and fauna. I consider these books to be one of the most under appreciated fantasy series out there. For sword snd sorcery fans, I highly recommend this series.

This book features another main character besides Dray Prescot, the primary hero of the series. Seg is Dray's best friend and is a great warrior in his own right.

If you are a John Carter of Mars fan or enjoy the "displaced person on another world" then this series is for you. The books run in long story arcs so you can read just a few to complete a plot line or go for the whole set. Akers creates a very complex world for the hero to adventure in. Recommended
