Imperfect Monster

Rate this book
Cold, ruthless, vicious.

I’m Paulo García’s monster, and I’d swallowed that bitter pill whole, learned to deal with it… until she stormed into the house like some avenging Valkyrie.

Brave, stupid, beautiful.

Nicky just wants to save her brother. She showed up with an envelope full of cash and a smart mouth and found herself in a den of monsters. I wish I could say I was the best of them, I wish I could say I wanted to protect her — but I’m far from perfect and she’s so damn sweet.

And all I want is a taste before this world destroys her.

You know, an easy tell for me if a book is good or not – for me at least – is the ability to suck me into the story. Which this book failed horribly to do.

When I was reading this book, I was in the subway. And it turned out, I was more interested in what the couple standing beside me was bickering about rather than reading the book. That was when I know this one just isn't for me and me continuing to force the book down my throat just won't work.

As far as I read, there should not be a threesome, or foursome or how-ever-many-somes there are. It's just strictly two people having sex even though there was a threat of it being a threesome. As for the story plot – from what I skimmed through – it was plenty boring and plenty predictable. The story itself isn't dark at all. I guess a wannabe dark is more suitable to describe this book.

All in all, the writing was okay. Characters were kinda meh, the plot was just bleh. This one is just not for me. However, if you are looking to test the waters with dark reads, I think this would be a good book to start to like ease you into it. Maybe.

4.5 dark and fucked up stars

Read the complete review @Readin' Under Street-Lamps

Holy. Fucking. God.

This book was so fucking dark and so fucking dirty, it’s off the charts people! For the last couple of weeks, I’ve been dying to read a true dark romance- one that will make me fear for the characters and get me all hot and bothered. But let me tell you, when I started this book yesterday on the bus, I did not expect this.

Being a monster for Paulo García comes with a price, and Andre has long since lost his humanity in the hell he readily entered for the sake of justice. But being a soldier for one of the most dangerous men to come out of South America means that his life belongs to that very man, and there is no escaping.

Nicky has a problem- the men who beat up her brother for money. To protect him, she barges into the house of the devil with nothing but 20 grand and an attitude that immediately puts her on the radar of every man present under the roof of Paulo, who decide to teach her a lesson for being disrespectful.

And thus begins this one fucked up tale.

’d call this a love story, except Andre just “wanted to taste” Nicky, and it’s not like Nicky was given much of a choice in the matter anyways. But I really loved how Bene developed both the characters slowly between the dirty fucking and the mind games.

This book was legit hot. Like so hot that my panties were in a perpetual state of being soaked. And let me just tell you this-

I was reading this book while commuting, and OMG! It’s really fucking awkward to be that aroused while on a bus full of sweaty people. Really. Awkward.

Andre and Nicky’s chemistry was off the charts. And I may or may not be jealous of Nicky for having Andre. And maybe Nicky irritated me a little in the beginning with how little she thought before acting, but then I really started liking her as the story progressed. She was definitely a strong character that really blossomed once she got rid of the tantrums, and that was mostly because how little unnecessary drama she caused.

I was a total goner for Andre from the very first page of the book, and that emotion persisted because he did not wimp into a weak pathetic lover after he developed feelings for Nicky. And really that I think is a huge measuring factor while reading a dark romance. So if I am somehow able to find Andre in a dark alley someday, he’s getting fucked. I’ll be on the look out for him.

The fact that most of the events in this book takes place in the span of a mere week completely shocked me when it was mentioned. I was so immersed into this fucked up world Bene created, that it became really hard to separate from it, and that was such a welcome feeling. It’s been quite some time since I felt my heart beating so fast due to the eminent danger in a book, so I was a little out of practice when Nicky was being tortured, I swear I got so uncomfortable, and I wanted to fucking tear into my kindle screen ad castrate Paulo and Luis. Kudos Bene. Kudos to you for having the guts to do what you did in the end. I legit thought that she’d pussy out and not eat the carrot she dangled all throughout the story.

And I think that should tell you something about Jennifer’s writing. It was clean and beautiful. Being a first timer, I don’t think I could’ve chosen a better book to take my Bene virginity, and you can be damned sure that I’ll be reading more from this author again.

Do I recommend this for all my fellow dark romance whores? That’s a definite yes darling.

If I were a good man I’d stop touching her, stop hurting her, stop fucking her. But I wasn’t a good man, and as I tightened my grip on the phone in my hand all I could think about was crawling back into bed with her to soak up as much of her warmth as I could. To breathe in all the summer I could from her hair, and hope that it would push the darkness back enough that when the time came I could get her out.
Let her go.

This book was great! I really liked it.

Andre was a great H. He’s a total alpha, dark, broody and pretty badass. Nicky was amazing too! She’s feisty and sassy. They compliment each other perfectly!

This book is pretty dark and at times violent so if you don’t like this type of romance you might not enjoy this book. I love dark romance and this one was at times a little too much for me but it was still a winner. I really liked that it also had suspense, drama and a good dose of hot sexy times. The chemistry between Andre and Nicky was off the charts!

Overall I recommend this book to all dark romance readers. This was my first book by Jennifer Bene but it won’t be my last

Wow, finally a book labelled as dark that truly is dark. This is the somewhat violent, often twisted and definitely dubious and steamy story of Nicky and Andre. And what a well written, attention holding, mind-blowing story it is. There are parts of this I'm not sure that I should enjoy, and other parts that I read whilst hiding behind a cushion ..... reactions that only a really good dark read will elicit.

Nicky is a strong female, whose naive innocence leads her into a nightmare situation, one where death would be a blessing. However she is a light that calls to Andre's black soul, the monster wants to save her from others, but will she survive him?

Andre wasn't quite as black as he painted himself. His soul had a teeny, tiny chink of light in it - or perhaps it wasn't quite as pitch dark as the rest of it. He'd once been good but too long in a dark and violent underworld had stripped his humanity. However Nicky could see, and brought out, the good in him. But don't be fooled - this is Jennifer Bene with one of her dark reads and the heroine will have to survive some horrendous ordeals. Andre's not a hero, but I can guarantee that by the end of the book you will love him. This just goes to show how talented the author is at crafting deranged and dangerous anti-heroes that we just can't resist.

You know you'll be rooting for Andre to become Nicky's knight in shining armour. However that isn't what he wants to be, or can be and there will be parts of this book that are both unexpected and difficult to read. They are also what makes this such a gripping story. The writing is excellent, I flew through the story, totally mesmerised by it and unable to put it down until it was finished.

It's not a book for the faint of heart but if you like dark you'll love this.

Today was one of those days that I needed to read. My mind was on over drive and I needed to escape. Well I got that with Imperfect Monster. Apart from making dinner I pretty much inhaled this in one read.

Nicky shows up at Paulo Garcia’s to save her brother. Unfortunately she underestimates how much of a nasty man Paulo is. Andre is one of Paulos men. When he sees Nicky something happens and he wants to protect her. Can he do what he’s gotta do and save Nicky?

I would have liked Nicky to put more of a fight up but I love a well written insta love story. I read fiction to escape the real world and this book certainly did that so it gets a five star from me. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.

Darkness is Subjective

“Imperfect Monster” is a professionally written, suspenseful novella with enough intrigue to keep it fast paced and the reader highly entertained. The antihero or hero depending upon your proclivity is extremely hot, dominant and demanding. The heroine could be considered bright and intelligent or TSTL depending upon your perception (personally, I think we all have a little Nicky in us). The intimacy is fairly well balanced with story-line and I view the issue of consent as dubious based upon the heroine’s reaction to the hero as well as the hero’s intent. However, I do understand the issue of consent is arguable and open to subjective interpretation.

Over all, I found the story entertaining as well as suspenseful and not overly dark or explicit. The story-line, for the most part, is relative to the circumstances but is a work of fiction so components of the story might not meet real life expectations (and why I enjoy fiction).

Bottom line, most readers should find the story entertaining but others may find their limits tested by dubcon/noncon, violent criminal activity such as murder and elements of BDSM.

I thought I was a fan of Jennifer Bene before this book. But after finishing Imperfect Monster I realized that I’m not JUST a fan, I’m a crazy, obsessed, stalker fan. Super flattering, right?

Dark romance/mob/brooding alphas/hot sex/guns/dubious consent/ is my g spot. And I don’t want to brag or anything, but my g spot was touched by every damn one of those. Good job, Jennifer Bene you’ve done what no man can do.

I’m kidding.

Andre is literally every damn thing. I love the darkness that lives inside of him but there is also light. Light not touched until Nicky.

She’s pure, and good. Everything Andre does not deserve. But he still craves her anyway. Enough to protect her from others. But not from himself. He wants Nicky and he is damn well going to have her.

Insert me spreading my legs shamelessly and screaming “TAKE ME NOW”.

Nicky didn’t give it up so easily. And honestly, for me, that shit is super hot.

However, Andre gets what he wants and he WILL have her, and he sure the hell does.

This book had a lot of angst and I found myself trying to read really fast so I could find out what happens next. I would stay up until my eyes just couldn’t hold themselves open anymore and I finally gave in to sleep. And most of the time I didn’t remember falling asleep. I loved this book so hard and I hope that Jennifer never stops writing because I just adore her books.

DNF. I could not get past the fact that the supposed "hero" gave the heroine to the villain to be raped. And he kept telling the heroine to just bear it! WTH. To be fair, he did give the heroine warnings about how he is powerless to stop his boss from raping her from the very beginning. That makes the H too pathetic in my eyes and the book lost all its appeals. I really hate dark romances where heroine is raped by other guys. Stay clear if you have this too.

I really should have listened to the other reviews.

I did skimmed to the ending but the "happy ending" seemed implausible.

Sometimes I find myself in need of a dark romance. The kind to show you the darkness of the world, while somehow leaving you with a belief in love. It’s a hard line to toe, and I often find books labelled as ‘dark romance’ aren’t actually all that dark. The hero is a member of a gang, or the heroine has a dark past. Those things are fun, sure, but they do not equate to a truly dark romance. Dark romances need to be gritty – like a good thriller, you need blood, guts, and tears.

Due to my bad luck with searching out truly dark romances, I was a wee bit tentative about Jennifer Bene’s Imperfect Monster. It sounded wonderful, but I couldn’t help but question whether it was too good to be true. I mean, would it really be that dark?

It turns out, yes – yes, it would be.

I have read a couple of truly dark romances in my time – a few insanely dark ones – meaning this one does not earn the spot as being my darkest romance. However, there is certainly truth in the label. This isn’t just a book with a dark label, this is a book that delivers what it promises. Therefore, I certainly recommend fans of dark, yet insanely hot, romances jump upon this. This is not a book to be missed, one you do not want to overlook, as it is truly wonderful.

From the very start I was pulled into this story. Not only was it exactly what I needed to cure my dark romance craving, it was a truly addictive read. There is so much about this one – the world, the characters, the storyline – to pull you in that you find it near-impossible to put the book down. Once you start, you’ll be wanting more. It’s not just a case of wanting to know how the story ends – it’s a case of needing to know.

There are plenty of romance books on the market to deal with the mafia and gangs, but I find there is a line that quite a few authors do not consider. Some take it too far and fall into clichés, with one too many viewings of The Godfather result in a very stereotyped view; some seem to step away from the idea all together, making it seem just like any everyday situation with the occasional shooting or drug exchange thrown in. In Imperfect Monster, we get one of those good examples of the underworld. There is violence in abundance, and the events that play out will leave you pulled into the world in no time at all. It is real and brutal, just the way I like these kinds of reads.

Add in the wonderful characters, and you’re guaranteed a wonderful read. Both our male and female lead brought so much to the table. I fell in love with them both in no time at all, and the relationship between the two of them was wonderful. It leaned a tiny bit towards insta-love, but I was so wrapped up in the individual character storylines that I didn’t mind at all. I may not be a fan of insta-love, but every so often it plays in really well with a book and I find myself able to overlook it. Such is what happened here – I was so in love with both characters that I was able to overlook how quickly they reached the point of love. Not to mention the interactions were insanely hot – with something so intense, I was able to turn my head and ignore the whisper of insta-love.

Both of those things are wonderful alone, but it’s always great when a wonderful world and amazing character come together in a gripping storyline. Throughout things are building, you know we’re moving towards the action scene. Personally, I would have liked for things to have been a bit more explosive – nevertheless, I adored the way everything came together. It was such a wonderful story, with multiple elements coming into light throughout.

There is no doubt I will be picking up more Jennifer Bene in the future. Imperfect Monster was a wonderful introduction to the author’s work, and it’s left me extremely eager for more.

It was dark and hot. That is until I get to the lack luster ending. Andre is an undercover agent who is trying to bring down this cartel, Nicky is this 27 year old who took her parents life insurance to pay off her brother’s drug problem. Too bad the payment isn’t enough and she ends up being collateral in the cartel. Andre is a good guy even though he hates to admit it. He buys her to save her. Nicky is like feeling the sun after a period of time in the darkness. Andre is now faced with the dilemma of releasing the girl or keeping her as prisoner. He chooses to keep her because he’s scared of “Jefe” bringing her back to prove a point. In this novel we see two people who are fighting for their lives get together. I recommend.

Imperfect Monster by Jennifer Bene is the story of Nicky and Andre.
Nicky's brother Chris owes Paulo García’ money which has placed him in the hospital. Trying to keep him safe she goes to Paulo with $20,000 to pay off his debt. But Chris owes more than that and they decided to keep her to pay off the renaming debt.
Andre tries to stay out of what is going on with Nicky and Paulo but his attraction to her is to strong.
Andre goes to Paulo offering to pay off the remaining debt to 'own' Nicky.
Andre is a dark hero, does things that some may not like but he is a Alpha male with some hidden secrets. So this is a dark romance but it is one that is hard to put down.

I inhaled this book in one sitting, an unputdownable new story by Jennifer Bene. Packed with an unrelenting darkness, fear, unexepected turns and some sizzling sex scenes. Hold on to your hair and pack some fresh panties because this is one hell of a book.

This is the first time Jennifer has written characters in the first person and she nailed it, I loved getting the first person view into the characters and their story.

Andre was devilishly sexy, and full of a darkness thst swirled around just below the surface of the cold indifference he displayed. He was also a complete bastard at times and his possessiveness over Nicky was intense, somewhat insane and yet incredibly hot. I loved how as their connection developed the humanity he thought he had lost forever began to slowly seep back in. The Imperfect Monster personified as the pages turned and the humanity in him gained momentum and strength. The constant fear over what would happen if they found out his secret and weak Nicky made him created some rather tense moment.

Nicky was determined, fiercely loyal to family and headstrong female MC, which was her strength but also her greatest weakness as it threw her straight into the hornets nest that was Paulo's house and Andre's clutches. She also had an admirable will to survive which in the face of the horrors she faced was her most admirable trait as many would have succumbed and begged for the end.

One of the more unsung heroes in this book was the "knight" Marco. I thought his morality showed the whole way through and I think that gained him alot of respect even though it was not displayed openly. I kind of want him to get his own book or even a teeny novella. *hint hint*

Overall this was a real page turner with an exciting, gripping story that left me dry mouthed, gaping at my kindle and wondering how I managed to run out of pages so quickly.

With seductive language you are sucked into the story right from the beginning. A cast of characters that give you the chills in their believability. Hopelessly caught among them a girl on a quest to save her brother. Now she needs saving and there's no help in sight. Or is there? I can't wait for the continuation of this story in 2018 !!

That was my hope when I read Monster in the Heroes Undercover anthology. And here it is, the story from beginning to end.

Ms Bene turned this short into a tight, edgy tale, with so many disturbing characters, that you can watch the goose bumps crawl across your skin.

While I am almost choking on what i want to tell about this book, I'll restrain myself to short hand.
It goes from dark, to very dark and sadistic, and then there's light at the end of a very long and uncomfortable tunnel, and at the end... Ha! Gotcha!!

Let me count the ways of how dark this book is…but it is dark and delicious. Its one of those reads where you don’t know who is the good guys and who is the bad ones. It is full of angst, heartbreak, despair, abuse but it also shows hope, sexual tension, and passion. This story has it all during one heck of a roller coaster ride of emotions. The plot is deep, raw, and full of twists and turns that kept me on pins and needles all the way til the very end. I couldn’t read this story with the lights off, I needed the light on and even then, with the dark themes, found myself needing all the lights on. I enjoyed all the dark twists and turns in this story. This is one story that you will love all the dark and enjoy the emerging shine of light.

Although fiction, this story offers a perfect example of when one should keep their mouth closed. BUT! If Nicky kept her mouth closed, then we wouldn't have a story, would we?

Nicky's temper is as big as Texas. So is her mouth. Of course that particular orifice land her in a heap of trouble. There's only one person who can save her.....Andre.

Bene does an excellent job with creating and shaping Andre's character from page one. He's an onery son of a gun although he has his reasons. He's in no mood for a wild filly like Nicky but fate is a finicky ole beyotch!

Imperfect Monster is a dark and delicious read. The story is labeled as a dark read and Bene's attention to IM's darkness is epic! Kudos Bene! Imperfect Monster is a great read!

This was a dark delicious read that I loved reading. Nicole "Nicky" Harris walked into the lions den when her brother Chris owned money to a mobster by the name of Paulo Garcia she gave 20 grand only she is short Nicky just wants to save her brother. Andre one of Paulo's men wants her so he pays the five grand to have her to keep her safe from the other monsters in the house. This was a really good book turns out Andre is undercover working for years to bring down Paulo and his crew but he struggles with doing the right thing he knows that he is a monster. I liked both of these character's I liked that Nicky was willing to fight to survive and Andre was willing to protect her although at times I wished she would have tried to get out. There was a lot of twist and turns in this book and some that I didn't see coming. Nicky was a light to Andre and he used her roughly with and without her consent the sex scenes were hot and Nicky learned to accept all the Andre gave her. This was my first time reading this author this book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book.

This was a good, dark romance full of action and suspense. I've read most of this author's books, and enjoyed all of them. My favorite is still Destruction, I think, but this one was good too!
Nicky was a brave, feisty girl, who unfortunately had the bad habit of speaking without thinking at times, which gets her into trouble. Andre is the big, quiet guy that everyone is a little scared of, and nobody ever knows what he's thinking. Seeing the two of them meet, and how their relationship develops is interesting. I found it amusing how comfortable she becomes with his dark side.
I actually expected this to be darker than it was. I thought things would have been worse for her than they were, most of the time. It was written really well though.

Things heat up immediately as within just a few pages, female main character Nicky is face-to-face with cartel boss Paulo Garcia and all of his henchmen.

“She shouldn’t have come here. She was innocent in this. A stupid, innocent, honey-skinned girl. But she’d already handed herself over to the devil to try and save her brother — even if she didn’t realize it yet.”

One of Paulo‘s henchmen is Andre who is huge, tattooed and scary as He||. When Andre decides he wants Nicky for himself, everything changes.

“You belong to me, and I belong to Paulo García. Welcome to hell.”

The, “relationship” between Andre and Nicky is smoking hot!! And fortunately, this is not your typical Stockholm Syndrome story because Andre is not who Nicky thinks he is....

I enjoyed this book yet did feel frustrated at times. Initially, I was frustrated by all the opportunities Nicky doesn’t take to free herself or at least fight back against her captors. At times I wished Bene wasn’t quite so wordy while at other times wish she had elaborated more (for example, I think I would have felt more connected to the main characters if we knew more of their back stories). After feeling like this book went on for a loooonng time, I felt that the ending was extremely rushed. Overall though, I did enjoy this book. Although I know Bene is capable of writing better material, this book was definitely suspenseful, entertaining and sexy!

When Nicky shows up at Paulo García’s house demanding that the notorious drug dealer leave her brother alone she never expected to be taken prisoner. Dragged into the house and locked in the basement, Nicky starts to second guess her decision to bail her brother out of trouble. When one of Paulo's cohorts tries to force himself on Nicky she is rescued by the least likely of people, Andre.

Andre, one of Paulo's monsters, will beat, maim and kill on command and he has decided he wants Nicky for his own. By paying off the rest of the debt her brother owes Paulo, Andre has essential bought Nicky both saving and condemning her.

Theirs is not a typical romance with flowers and sweet words but Andre will do whatever it takes to protect Nicky and keep her safe while he figures out how to save her from the world he lives in.

I voluntarily read this book for reviewing.

"This place was a death sentence, and I was already kneeling for the executioner."

I am huge fan of Jennifer Bene. She is one hell of a talented author and she always surprised me every time with her flow of words and her addictive books that slay me each and every time. She is a dark author who writes some of the most messed up scenes in books ever and I end up reading them and enjoying them. I guess I am messed up and I like it. Jennifer Bene produces an A class of dark and disturbing. Just like Imperfect Monster. Imperfect Monster was INSANE and totally MESSED up. I loved every moment of it. The hair raising scenes. The compelling characters. The well written and complex plot. Imperfect Monster was a huge ball of inferno that decimated my entire being. I was PHENOMENAL. It was FIERY. It was SEXY. It was PERFECT.

Last year, Jennifer Bene wrote a novella called Monster. I was completely pulled in by the characters and the story itself was freaking fantastic. I wanted a continuation because I truly believed in this story and that it will be a success. To my amazement, she was going to release a full length of the story and I was so excited. That is how Imperfect Monster came to be. Man, this book is dirty and just gritty. It will tear up your soul and just suck you in. It will damage to you and you will let it. How fantastic. How dynamic. Violent. Rich. Engrossing. Enigmatic. Imperfect Monster was a dark romance with a hardcore and irresistible plot that gripped me. It was simply UNPUTDOWNABLE. Imperfect Monster caught me in a trance and I was forever in its powerful magic. This book is just heart shattering and mind bending. Jennifer Bene gave me grittiness, suspense and mystery in a red hot package written effortlessly and with intent to give you chills and thrills.

The characters were amazing. OMG, Nicky and Andre were just mind blowing. That chemistry/ That sexiness. Boy, was it hot, dirty and freaking spicy. I loved Andre and Nicky together. You could tell Jennifer Bene put so much to develop Nicky and Andre as a couple. I definitely respected that. Nicky was brazen, strong, loyal and with fire. Andre was epitome of dangerous, ruthless, dark and commanding. I loved them both. There was no pretense of gimmick between and it made gravitate to their story.

Imperfect Monster is not for the faint of heart. It is crazy dark and will push your boundaries. Heed this warning. But if you love boundaries pushed, then this is your book. Take a step into the dark. You will love it.

Loved the book! Extremely well written, interesting, and unique, the author takes us into the depths and inner workings of a drug Lord and his gang of bodyguards and enforcers. Highly recommend. I also bought the book with KU.

This would be a "It's me, not you" review.

There's only so many captive stories you can read before they all blend in. Hands up, I'm a dark romance reader. So, yeah. I've read it all. It seems my favorite genre has died. 😏 Or I'm suffering from Criminal Minds syndrome and nothing surprises me.

I want a fiery connection between the characters. I definitely got that, in the beginning. It was wrong, but so fucking exhilarating. I still feel the same after finishing. Yet, I knew the story surrounding them. It's been told too many times. I loved the balance of dark and light, the redemption on the end of your tongue. I absolutely loved it. This book was edgy and fantastic for someone that's finally reading in the dark.

But for me. You don't need to say I love you in a romance. Because it's should already be felt. I lost the whole feel of it, because that was said. (Like I said, it's me.) DARK HEART HERE. I'm not rating this story 3 stars because the H&H said, I love you. No, I'm rating it on my redundant thoughts about this topic. I loved both characters. And I sorta like the story. But, most of all, I loved the suspense. You had me on my toes for a minute. That was amazing.

I loved this book so much! This author is quickly becoming a favorite of mine! 2 books down and now I need them ALL in my memory. Andre and Nicky were ADDICTING to read. I loved their connection from before he even touched her. He protected her before he knew her. I love seeing big tough men being brought to their knees by woman. And a strong woman like Nicky at that. Nicky was a tough spitfire from the very beginning. I loved her. Andre was so bad but oh so good. This author does dark romance just like I NEED. Auto one click for Jennifer Bene. 5 stars.

So wanted to love this

Told from dual POA. Repeating story when the characters change made it difficult to read. Skimmed much of the ending to a predictable HEA!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

Andre is cold, ruthless, vicious and Paulo Garcia's monster. He had swallowed the bitter pill whole and learned to deal with it until Nicky stormed into the house like some avenging Valkyrie. She was brave, stupid and beautiful. Nickly just wanted to save her brother. She showed up with an envelope full of cash and a smart mouth. She found herself in a den of monsters. Andre wishes he could say he wanted to protect her--but he is far from perfect and she is so freaking sweet. All he wants is a taste before this world destroys her.

Imperfect Monster is a dark romance. There are some scenes in this book that may be triggers from some people. Please proceed with extreme caution.

I loved this book. I read a lot of dark books and Imperfect Monster pushed my limits. This is why I love reading dark books so much but I have to say Imperfect Monster rates right up there with one of the darkest books I have ever read. This is the story of Nicky and Andre. Andre is the enforcer for Paulo Garcia. When Paulo says jump he says how high and never bats an eye at anything he is ever asked to do. This however has made him cold and at times he questions if he even has a soul left or is redeemable. One day, in walks Nicky. Brave, stupid Nicky who is there to pay off her brothers debt. She comes in like a hurricane and soon finds herself trapped in a lions den. She doesn't have enough money to totally pay off her brothers debt. This of course is unacceptable Paulo who happens to be the main drug king of Miami and the main distributor of the products coming from south of the border. Nicky has to keep her head to find a way out of this mess but when the monsters are circling there is no way she can be saved from what they have planned to do to her. However, Andre wants her and he isn't willing to share. Welcome to a world full of Monster's Hope your not afraid of the dark.

I have never read anything that Jennifer Bene has written before. I found myself so engrossed in this book the world around me disappeared for a while and I sure didn't want to put it down. It is so well written you feel like you are walking every step that these characters take. This is a must read if you love dark books that will push your boundaries.

This was a dark sexy and so addictive on the edge of your seat full of torment, secrets, and bravery.
Nicky who walks into a whole new world with severe consquences and a whole lot of darkness and hatred to save her brother from the sadistic drug lord Paula Garcia and let me tell you he is scary and unpredictable and a whole lot of intense.
I admired Nicky she was one strong brave woman for what she endured and I was so afraid for her not knowing what was coming next, and the control of her sassy mouth made me nervous.
Andres made me nervous at first but by god I love him he is one demanding take control in everything and I mean everything and he has my heart. These two are complete opposites she is light he is dark and the crash and are sizzling hot together and will have your heart racing.
The writing is excellent and all the characters all come together to make that perfect DARKNESS that I love.
