Emma has gained control of one district of a city run by a woman that she tried to kill. While her new position has improved her upgrade abilities the other district heads have had theirs enhanced as well. More of what the series is known more super-powered action, more insults, and more upgrades in a struggle to survive.
⭐⭐⭐ The first three books in this series would be four or four and a half stars if released as one book instead of three. If you liked the first two you’ll enjoy this one as well.
This is a very well written story, it kept me wanting more the whole way. The characters are enjoyable and have depth to them as well. Also the plot goes places that gives the reader, me, a lot of satisfaction. I very much recommend reading this series as it has become one of my favorites! Read it!
This book, at least when newly released, requires significant editing for grammar and formatting. I've read the previous two in the series and neither were this bad with the editing. Story wise the book is primarily action sequences. First the characters go here to fight someone, then immediately go there to do the same, etc. The action is interesting and well written, but I would have preferred more character interactions that weren't fighting or planning for fights. There's also far less emphasis on the main character Emma's powers of upgrading people and things. Gone are chapters focused on Emma doing sadistic scientific testing in an effort to perfect Mad Science, which is a shame. Ultimately this book struck me as the sort of story I might pick up at an airport book store; but bad per se, but not very memorable either. It's fine if you don't think about it too much, and seems like it's mostly there to set up the next one in the series.
I was getting ready to get annoyed with this author...I wasn't sure how to feel about anything after the super chaotic transitions in this story but ultimately I was just reminded of everything I loved about this story. The characters are great. The world is insane, the action is stupendous....At times I wish this plot was one with a more Human more normal deutoroganist to go along side our mechanical(biomechanical) mc, but ultimately I'm fine just enjoying this wholly unique and wonderful series as it is...what's more the author even managed to actually end the book in a satisfying manner this time.
A fun read, and a good continuation of the storyline. The characters are more interesting, and Emma seems to have finally discovered the notion of introspection. A bit heavier on the combat/fight scenes. Which isn't bad, but it seems to have largely left the "dungeon core" genre mostly behind. A number of proofreading errors still exist as of publication though (I noticed at least a dozen). They don't detract too much from the experience, but still - get some beta readers!
As many other reviewers have said, this book is in desperate need of better editing, there were several passages where I had difficulty knowing who was doing what because the same noun was used for everyone (Crystal turned to Crytstal and said...)
If you can get past that, it was quite fun. That said... what happened to the rewards earned from the RTS game? I guess the tongue was lost with the ship, but what of the toggle and the life?
This one took a slight turn, still true to it's roots The over the top violence zips by as the unrelenting pace never lets you relax and reflect on how screwed up this all is. Once again bad choices are made by the main characters to maximize conflict, but if you like a 6 way battle royale with squirting blood and explosions this is a feature, and not a bug. Finally a spark of decency from the main character. Let's see how many people she torture/ kills to achieve these new goals.
Really enjoying the series and the difference the author is taking the dungeon style novels, really creative. And I’m just wanting more stats, world depth, and book length. And for me, any editing errors never took me out of the story just to counter some of these proofreading experts leaving reviews.
Really good addition to the overall story. I devoured it. It was a really fast read for me. Most times when reading I have a general idea where the story is going. Not so much with this series. I want to see where the future story ends up.
I'm torn on this one. The flow of the story is still pretty bad, with near constant action and no build up to things, but it kind of works for this one. There were some places where the pace annoyed me, but I actually managed to get into this one. Not sure if it's me or if Grant is improving.
If you have enjoyed the last two book, this one will not disappoint. The main character grows in depth and it’s a little easier to approve of a psychotic killing machine.
It was a fast paced and extremely enjoyable read. Still enjoyed the character s even though they were all horrible people. I removed one star for the grammatical errors.
