“Darling, I’m not the one for you. You deserve the world”
Those words in the prologue as Genevieve watched her bad boy be taken away, hurt my heart before I even knew their story. They were the words of a young man who absolutely loved his girl, and wanted her to live a great life. For Gen, spending time with him had started out as a rebellious act against her parents but quickly became more. And during this short introduction to their story, I didn’t get any insight beyond the veneer of the situation that he’d gotten them into, until he refused to let her be involved and took all consequences where they should be. With him, and him alone, and uttered those words and more to her.
Thing is, her life was ‘OK’ and though I had my suspicions, how the man with whom she’d spent the last five years of her life with, was related to her past love, wasn’t confirmed till later on in the story. Gen is now a successful author of erotic romances and about to get married to a man that I’d have kicked to the kerb. She knew she did love him, but had started to wonder when it had become all so hard. When he had become so hard to deal with. He hated her career.
‘Not The One’ is by no means a hot book. It is an intense second chance romance and the chemistry between our two characters is strong. True love hasn’t faded. Our young bad boy had grown up, built a life and worked to become deserving of his first and only love, always hoping that Gen would find a way back to him. Highly recommended, and a great contribution to The Vault: A sinfully Sexy Collection Volume One. 4.5 Stars.
