This was, for me, the kind of book that skilfully hits the heart of what sci-fi is at its best: a chance to look at grand ideas, in a context that’s free from the constraints posed by our technological and sociological limitations.

The Ephemeral Passage (The School of Ancestral Guidance Book 2) by Thorn Osgood provides a beautiful glimpse into another world. Chapter one opens with Corilan in the Health and Healing sector as she looks over the patients. A healer, she is an important character in this story and well portrayed. There is plenty of turmoil, lots of concern for many in this book, and while the story revolves around conflict and finding solutions for survival, the human and emotional element is not far behind. Although I didn’t read the first book in the series, I would not have known it was part of a series without reading it on the title. That being said, you can easily jump into this novel if the first book doesn’t seem like something you would be interested in reading. That being said, this book is sure to keep you engaged from the very beginning.
