Raised in the south, Wall Street Journal & USA TODAY bestselling author MariaLisa deMora learned about the magic of books at an early age. Every summer, she would spend hours in the local library, devouring books of every genre. Self-described as a book-a-holic, she says "I've always loved to read, but then I discovered writing, and found I adored that, too. For reading...if nothing else is available, I've been known to read the back of the cereal box."
A member of Romance Writers of America, deMora has penned a variety of stories, with five established series that include motorcycle romance, veteran repatriation, and time travel, as well as a romantic standalone, dark suspense, and a legal thriller. Her website is filled with links and information, as well as extras like character interviews, playlists, poetry, and trailer videos!
Her short bio reads, "Plate-spinner / cat herder at work; totally geeked author; single mom in the thick of autism at home; hockey freak; wanna-be hiker; usta-be/on-again EQ gamer."
Alace is 17 when the unthinkable happens to her, she doesn't get any justice from the police or locals when it happened. She wishes she had come forward earlier as girls were hurt after her by the same men, so Alace decides to do something about it herself.
Now we are taken to 17 years after that incident where we learn how Alace has become a vigilante of sorts, although she hates that word it is what she is, finding justice for those who are hurt by sexual predators and the law hasn't helped. I liked Alace, she was strong willed independent and smart. I'm not going to lie it took a bit to get used to the writing style and it was rather wordy and a little choppy but I soon got into it. This was not as dark as I thought it would be, it had one of the most gory graphic scenes I have read but there wasn't much else dark in it.
While on one of her 'assignments' she meets Eric, Alace has never let herself become attached as living her life which includes changing her identity constantly just doesn't allow for any relationships. Eric though was able to break down barriers others couldn't, one night Alace had a PTSD breakdown while in bed with Eric where she divulged to much personal info. She ran from Eric to her net 'assignment' but that's not the last we see of Eric, and I have to mention how hot these two are together.
This is hard to write as I can't say much about the plot without giving anything away. I LOVED the first 50% it was intense and had me captivated but the intensity and my interest did die off a little through the middle. The plot was a little far fetched and unrealistic but I still enjoyed it and the story picked back up at the end with a twist that saw Alace at her badass best.

This book sucked me in and kept me reading straight through to the end. Shaped by her early experiences, Alace is a strong, powerful yet vulnerable woman who’s found her place in the world, one far removed from the norm. A vigilante who wants to serve justice on those who get away with heinous crimes, planning her retribution carefully. It’s all there in this book, horror, suspense, love and intensely hot, steamy scenes. This is a definite 5 star read which I thoroughly recommend. Beautifully written and paced just right. In the beginning it’s hard to see how anyone could justify or give Alace absolution for the things that she’s done, or how she can come to terms with it herself. But the cleverly woven plot reaches an unpredictable conclusion. Intriguing dark storyline, beautiful love story and nail biting conclusion, what more could a reader ask for?
This beautiful twisted and consuming masterpiece will chew you up and spit you out!
Oh MariaLisa Demora, oh how you have done it again! You are a pure genius when it comes to writing. Reading a book that gives you that want to live in that world feeling is the holy grail for a reader. I've only read a few of MariaLisa's books and she has blown me away each time.
Alace Sweet's has everything a reader would want. Drama! Lots of it. Surprise twist! and Betrayal! (OMG GASP) What's not to love about this book. Her characters are well developed and easy to fall in love with.
I don’t want to go into much detail because this amazingly dark twisted story needs to be read spoiler free. This was definitely not a fluffy lighthearted read. If you are looking to read something gritty, sexy and dirty read, then this is the right book for YOU!

Alace Sweets by MariaLisa deMora Alace Sweets is a different type of story from her MC series. The story is so much more than that of a girl growing up making a living of finding justice for those who didn’t get it through the justice system. Many of Alace’s experiences are detailed encounters that you ride along as she plans and “executes” those plans. As I read this book, I thought back to when I first watched Jamie Lee Curtis in the original Halloween movie. I was shaking and cold to the bone. I screamed, “Don’t put down the knitting needle!” I relived those feelings times ten while reading Alace Sweets. Every time MariaLisa deMora picks up her pen (or opens her computer), she creates characters you want to believe in. They have depth. Their world has detail and texture. I am totally transported to that world. Be transported (just make sure you carry tissues with you).
This is my first book by this author and will not be my last. This book was very well written and the pace was just right and flowed beautifully. The story had me on the edge of my seat wondering where it would go and end I could not see how it would all play out a few twists... Alace, I really enjoyed her character she is powerful yet vulnerable at the same time, giving what happened to her in past we can understand why... you can connect with her and understand why she does what she does. This story will take you on a wild ride sometimes, but it is thrilling and suspenseful at the same time it will keep you on the edge of your seat...
This is my favourite book so far from this author. Although I loved her MC books I really loved this one.
I know I say quite a bit that the books I’ve read are gripping (not my fault there are so many awesome authors) but seriously I had to read this on my kindle app on my phone so I could read it whenever I could.
Alace is a kick ass character. She wants justice for those that didn’t get it and will do whatever she can to achieve it.
I recommend this book if you enjoy dark romantic thrillers. Jump in without reading any more reviews. A must read. Looking forward to reading more from this author. I loved it.
Thrilling....chilling... full of suspense, nail biting edge of your seat excitement. This book grabs you with the first word and doesn’t let go until the last word, and even then the author still holds you. A must read for any book enthusiast
There's not enough stars to give this book and 5 just doesn't really do it justice! I was allowed the privilege of reading it early and my honest review is this....... I honestly can't think of enough good things to say about it! From an author who generally writes reads that are full of sexy biker-hotness, there is not a single biker in 'Alace Sweets'! This is a a whole new level of writing from the dark side for MariaLisa deMora, but damned if it doesn't get a hook in your soul that you can't get rid of long after the last page is read. Fair warning Folks, this book is absolutely, agonizingly, friggin brutal! No better way to say it. It's dark and demented and makes your heart hurt for Alace, literally from from the very first sentence. Most books give you a couple of chapters to get eased into what the story is going to be and what emotions you may need to get lined up to feel while it builds up to the first big bang....that is not what you get here. What you get here....well instant gut-punch is a pretty apt description. (and right about around the cabin chapter....well, you'll know when you get to it...you may want the lights on while your read....just sayin!) But listen, do not, OH PLEASE DO NOT let yourself be scared off if you're afraid that it may be too much darkness for you because it is breathtakingly wonderful in the way it makes you pull for this damaged and broken girl that refuses to be left bleeding in the dirt! Not to mention, there is a romance in here that'll get your blood pumping triple-time! I know I've mentioned before that I don't, as a rule, read 'normal'. Well this ain't normal kids! Not by any stretch of the imagination is 'Alace Sweets' ever going to be considered anything close to normal. I'd read the step-by-step instructions for how to heat up leftovers in the microwave if MariaLisa deMora was the one that wrote them. She continues to make me love her harder every single book that she puts out. I still don't know how she does that. January 9, 2018 is when this book comes out. I suggest pre-order cuz you're gonna want it first thing that morning! The only thing I have left to say, is that I'll beg for this book to be the first in a series! Alace isn't done....she can't be!
Wow! is the first word that popped into my head when I finished reading this book. Alace's character is easy to connect to and understand how and why she did the things she did. How a good person can be pushed so far past their breaking point that they can do bad things and still have a good heart. There is a fine line between vengeance and justice and can easily become blurred under the right circumstances. The author gives you just enough detail to let your mind picture the horrid things that happened without making you cringe from the details. You find yourself feeling sympathetic towards Alace and her cause. Eric's character is so loveable. He didn't give up on her no matter what. He saw past what she did and loved her and more importantly accepted her as she was. What woman doesn't want that in her life. The story will grab you from the very first page. Have plenty of time to read because you won't want to put it down once you start reading. There won't be any skimming pages with this story. You think you have it all figured out but oh no you don't. Betrayal, action, drama, heartbreak and surprise twist all abound in this story. The characters are complex and well developed to the point they could be your next door neighbors but lets hope not. You will find yourself so drawn into the story that the outside world is blocked out and your locking the doors and turning on all the lights. I hope this author ventures into the dark side more often and can't wait to read what she comes up with next. Rated Great
Let me just say that after reading this story I so appreciate and love the cover of this book, it's fantastic and so clever - kudos to the cover designer - it rocked! Now the story itself...let me just say that I love it when a book surprises you and catches you off guard and this story definitely did that. Alace survived an extremely brutal attack, couple that with the fact that her attackers basically got away with it ultimately set the course for her life of that of a vigilante, an eye for an eye so to speak. Changing identities between each "gig" and never staying in one place for too long or setting down roots has resulted in a lonely and isolated life for Alace, that is until she meets Eric. Meeting Eric stirred thoughts and brought about emotions in Alace that were new to her and made her take pause and re-think what she actually wanted in life. Justice and deliverance of that justice is great but when you find "your one" like Alace did, sometimes you have to take a deep breath and grab what you're being offered with both hands and go for it and I'm so glad she did! Great characters and storyline, a definite must read!
So when I first started this book, it felt a bit confusing, but then I stopped and started again, and man did I get sucked in. (Was mad to actually go and spend time doing normal stuff, lol) Alace is awesome. Strong, powerful and amazing. After everything she went through and then going out and doing what she does, takes courage. And I think she was a superhero. But she also had a vulnerable side to her.
This book will have you on the edge of your seat, like watching a horror movie and even though you don't want to see you can't help but looking... Yep here it is...
Definitely an awesome read. Thrilling, full of suspense, nail biting moments and totally exciting. Well done awesome lady, another book that has me bowled over.
This was the last book I read of 2017 and it was a fab way to end the year. There are plenty of emotions in this read to keep you turning those pages right until the very end as well as plenty of swings and roundabouts to keep you guessing and ensuring that the story carries on flowing. I really enjoyed the vigilante vibe to this book and although there are plenty of scenes that may well turn your stomach, it kind of doesn't feel wrong that you are enjoying them at the same time. I connected, on a somewhat base level, to Alace. She started out as a nobody, a victim who had her voice stolen, her truth denied. She grew, she fought, she got smart and she started believing in herself. The last part of this book was totally gripping and I absolutely loved the final showdown and the evolution of Alace and Eric's relationship was the perfect way to end this book.
Wow, this certainly is a change of storyline from MariaLisa deMora but it works well.
Alace Sweets is a strong, intelligent woman..now! With a traumatic experience at the tender age of seventeen, Alace seeks a life trying to right wrongs. That is until she meets her 'one', Eric, things don't exactly go smoothly for them both.
This ride is a bit wild at times but thrilling all the same. Alace Sweets is a carefully crafted story that keeps readers on their toes in many places. The characters are very likeable...all except the bad ones of course....and the scenes are described with great details giving readers clear visions as the tale unfolds.
All in all a worthwhile book to sit back and enjoy.
Alace Sweets isn’t for the faint of heart make sure you check out that warning in the blurb. Having said that I loved reading Alace’s story. It’s heartbreaking, brutal but sweet and loving all rolled into one tiny body. I’m not going into much storyline detail or really character details because you really need to read it to understand it all. No strings left untied and everything ended in a neat bow. It flows together nicely and you don’t just know Alace you understand and cheer her on.
A very suspenseful, dark, thrill ride read that has you turning the pages. Alace has gone through so much in her life but still won’t give up she’s a alpha female with the need of revenge. Then there is Eric the one person who won’t give up on Alace and knows she deserves love and so much more. A very intense story with lots of twist and turns and shocking details. A must read for all those dark, gritty romance fans out there. ****Reviewed by Sweet & Spicy Reads a voluntarily Advanced Reader Copy of this book ****
This book is dark and gritty and I literally had to take a day off from reading it because it's that intense. The scene development is brilliant and at times, totally horrifying. This brought me front and center into the story and I became completely invested not only in the story but in Alace and Eric.
The attention to detail, which is one of the things I love most about MLD's books, is so finite that I could actually picture each scene playing in my head. And at times this caused shudders to wrack my body because along with the good scenes, the bad played out in my head the same way.
And the ending....love that she got what she always wanted in life!
MariaLisa deMora, you had me with the cover...This is the first book I've read from you and WOW!! What a pleasant surprise!! I liked how her name came into play, how she evolved, how she did all the things we wanted her to do ...and more!! Oh and how you kept us guessing, kept that last card nice and close to your chest. I finished it in one sitting. That is how I rate my addictions. If you kept me glued to the pages - 5 stars!! Not a soppy-smutty easy read, this draws you in, keeps your attention and focus, oh and you need to concentrate - You do not want to miss anything!! Nicely done - Come to the dark side, we have MariaLisa deMora books here...
Totally different than anything I’ve read in a long time. Alace reminds me of Mallory from Carol O’Connell’s series but darker and more “hands on”. MariaLisa DeMora stepped outside or her normal and I LOVED it. The world needs more Alace’s.
Gang raped and the courts fell her. It changed her life and she delivered her own brand of just. But love changes everything. Wonderful. Action packed. Exciting reading. This book has everything to keep you amused and entertained from beginning to end.
Getting through the first couple of chapters was a bit dull for me. Soon the story brought me in for a wild ride. My heart raced with the adventures, had me second guessing how scenarios would turn out, and surprised me. This is a keeper. When I have read too many books and forget this story, I will be back to savor it all again. Suspenseful, hot, hot romance, and surprises. What more could you ask for? Oh yes, it is well written!
What a story! Alace is a great character. So much depth in this slip of a girl as she goes around doing her thing! Also have to love Eric, he's perfect for her! The story is fresh and original and I want more.
OMG Marielisa you nailed it with this one. Had me on the edge of my seat the entire time!! You keep getting better and better no doubt about that. A must read 5 stars on this one.
This book wasn’t what I was expecting. You know how it is, they sometimes sit on your Kindle for a while and you dive in from the cover alone. It’s a deliciously dark read, with twists and turns that keep you gripped. Whilst Alace can’t be described as a conventional character, she totally enthralled me. Excellent read.
5 FANTASTIC STARS!!! MariaLisa is an incredible author. Alace Sweets is an amazing story, though not for the faint of heart. This is one of those books that pulls you in from the very beginning and holds you captive until the very end. I couldn't put it down.
What is your view of vigilantes? If someone was wronged so terribly, that they made a vow to rid the world of people like those monsters that hurt them, would you understand? Would you feel differently if they were your daughter, your mother, your spouse or your lover? MariaLisa deMora has a dark and vengeful novel with Alace Sweets that will leave readers on the edge of their seat until the very end!
Alace Sweets is the woman that evil men made her become through blood, sweat, and tears. She got her revenge though and continues to do so on every man who does those haunting and despicable things to women or children. Justice will prevail when Alace is in town, even if the courtroom doesn’t. On a mission to go wherever the tide takes her, Alace lands a mark in a town with one hot and sexy man named Eric…who just happens to be her mark’s son. Eric is the exact opposite of his father though. He is kind, compassionate, smart…maybe a little too smart for his own good. With Eric, Alace loses herself and her identify becomes unmasked. He doesn’t want to hurt her though, he is her one. The one that she never thought would happen to her, but he is in too much danger with her around. She has to always hide herself and must never let her facade slip again, so she runs. She knows that she must always be on the run or it could mean that her and the people that she cares about could wind up getting hurt. There will come a time when she won’t be so lucky…and that may be closer than she thinks.
deMora has a superb story-line and exceptional character development. All of her characters have such depth that will intrigue the reader and allow them to feel emotions like sympathy, hope, desperation and revulsion. The pace is absolutely terrific; it is fast-paced with a thrilling aspect. deMora writes about the things that a lot of people are ashamed to admit or afraid to see, so her explanations and convictions within the story are very original and creative. There are little to no errors in the context, which make it that much more enjoyable for the reader. If you are a reader of psychological suspense and dark romantic thrillers, you may want to pick this one up.
