Come visit the historic City of Hot Springs, Arkansas. Inside you will find many of the city's most intriguing tales.....
The legends and lore of the gangster days of the city when Al "Scarface" Capone, Owney "The Killer" Madden, Charles "Lucky" Luciano and other American gangsters walked the sidewalks of town.
The Famous "Hot Springs Barbecue Trail" featuring renowned restaurants that will make your mouth water and your taste buds tingle.
The history of the majestic Arlington Resort Hotel and Spa, including its lobby murals where a jilted lover painted his tragic love story into beautiful jungle scenes.
The real story of the underground tunnels that run beneath the city that have become folklore and near mythology, but instead have a practical application for the City of Hot Springs.
And of course, the art of the bath, the real reason that throngs of visitors have flocked to the Valley of Vapors from the early days of Indian tribes through today's modern world.
...you'll read these stories and many, many more here in the pages of Hot Springs: The History and Mystery of the City of Healing Waters!
This is the kind of book a potential visitor should read before visiting Hot Springs, but most visitors won't know about the book until they are already there. Mr. Whitington tells many "tales" of the city as well as many ideas of places to visit depending upon the visitor's personal interests.
Interesting and informative, but contains no documentation, i.e., I question some of the historical "facts" presented, and the book contains several typos.
I grabbed a signed copy of this book in a gift shop as I was leaving Hot Springs. What a fun and informative souvenir! My only disappointment is I read it after we left so I guess we’ll have to plan a trip back for all the things we didn’t get to do. Highly recommend as a “travel guide” for those headed to the Spa City!
