Max and his friends are crazy about playing and learning about superheroes and their superpowers. Everyone has a favorite, and Max's is Megapower, even though his friends aren't sure that a girl superhero can be that strong. Megapower is cool for so many reasons. She's brave, tames animals, has x-ray vision, is super smart, and she can fly. She also happens to be Max's mom (which might be why she's Max's favorite!). Max is an intrepid, sassy, and funny narrator in a book that uses both traditional picture-book layouts and comic-book-like panels. A fun
EN: After studying Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona, Rocio Bonilla worked in fields such as photography and advertising. Since 2010 she has forged two careers as an illustrator of children's books and a painter of murals.
Nice books that lets little children realize that mom is the greatest superhero of them all! Could really relate to this - my mom introduced me to comics to encourage me to read more. My love of reading can be traced back to this - thanks mom for helping me discover my love for reading!
Fun picture book for the 4-6 year old crowd! The illustrations do more than compliment the text; they provide ample opportunity for conversation and vocabulary development. And the “surprise” ending has so many text and picture clues that even the youngest will likely be able to predict the outcome. Solid purchase for a preschool child, classroom, or library.
I thought this was super adorable and really liked this illustrations with one GLARING EXCEPTION. When the kid says his favorite superhero is a woman: “Martin says that there is no way a woman superhero can be that strong.” I’m comfortable just skipping that line and reading the rest of the book because my kid won’t even know I skipped it - he just loves superheroes of all kinds. But that doesn’t make me less upset that a book for children published in English in 2018 (Spanish 2016) would include a line from a boy saying women can’t be that strong. WTF. The rest of the book is super cute and all about how this kid things his mom is amazing! That one line made me sad.
I received an advance e-copy of this book from the publisher through Edelweiss Plus.
As a mother of a superhero lover the subject matter of the book was instantly interesting, but the twist part way through is what really made this story special. I love how the book describes a mighty superhero with so many incredible powers and then you slowly start to realize that she is actually the boy’s mom and that she uses her incredible ‘powers’ in the everyday heroic things she does for him.
It has great messages of a mother son connection, female empowerment, and the impact of everyday things. The story is perfectly complemented by fun illustrations that switch between traditional style and comic book style. This picture book is a great addition to all the superhero stories while bringing a fresh new angle.

Max loves superheroes! He dresses up for halloween (and other times), he listens to stories about the old-timey ones his grandpa tells, he reads all the comic books, but his favorite is Mega Power. She can do everything, rescue animals, control robots, deactivate bombs, and so much more, but that's not the best thing. Max knows one more cool thing about Mega Power, but that's a secret.
Comic book style illustrations paired with more realistic style pictures highlight this oversized picturebook. Mega Power is larger than life, so is this book. Such fun, and a great mother-son read. Loved this so much.
Picture book spoiler: I don’t try to read picture books to my kids anymore because halfway through they start hollering what they think the ending will be “it’s his mom!!” and drowning out the other words and THEN they get worried when I get choked up reading about the “Mommy costume” like I should have seen that coming and not been emotionally moved by the cuteness.
But occasionally.....Worth it.

Super cute book just don't like when authors use words such as bomb in a children's book. You always end up with students asking what a word means and a bomb isn't one that I want to explain about during a happy peppy story time. I find myself skipping over these words or replacing it with something else.
Sweet story about a girl and her friends who really like superheros. They each have their own favorites, but Max's is Megapower. It is at the end of the book when you find out just who Megapower really is.
We follow Max and his pals as they consider who is the best superhero, learn why Max's favorite is Megapower, and learn that Megapower is Max's very own Mom. For real or in his imagination? Well you can decide that. Either way, Max's Mom is super and a hero, and that's what matters.
The drawing is lively and colorful. Megapower as a Mom is drawn in a sly and winking sort of style that suits the story. The project has nice energy and a cheerful and upbeat feel, and looks like a very fun read-together. A nice find.

Max and his friends love superheroes, but they all have different favorites, Max's being Megapower. Even though his friend, Martin, claims no woman superhero could be that strong, Max begs to differ. He thinks Megapower is awesome because she programs computers, deactivates bombs, tames animals, has x-ray vision, and is incredibly strong. However, his favorite thing about Megapower is when she puts on her Mommy costume and tucks him into bed.
I thought this was a very sweet book. I really liked the illustrations and the incorporation of comic book style into the pictures. One way I thought I could use this book in the classroom is for Mother's Day. I would have them decorate a superhero cutout as their mom and write what her superpowers would be, then give it as a gift to their moms. This would be a fun hands-on activity for a good occasion.
Vibrantly illustrated picture book highlights a subject matter that's hot in pop culture and near and dear to so many young hearts: superheroes! Kids and parents will have fun spotting the references to real comics heroes who populate this book along with made-up ones. The ending will either have you smiling or rolling your eyes, depending upon your tolerance for schmaltz.
I loved this book! I love that Max’s favorite super hero is a female. I love that she is physically and mentally strong. I love that she’s more impressive than the boy superheroes. And I really love that Max’s favorite super hero is his mom!

Genre: Modern Fantasy Grade: K-4 Within this book it had mentioned many different superhero’s and how Max’s friends all had a favorite superhero. Though Max had a favorite superhero named Megapower...who in the end had been his mother who he enjoyed most of all.
Max was reading about superheroes as he loves them. He also wants to become SuperHero. His favourite superhero is Megapower as she has a lot of super powers and she is Max's mom so he thinks she is the best superhero of all.
A young boy and his friends love superhero's and can’t get enough of them especially a certain female superhero. I loved the trick ending. Preschool and up
