This was a super slow read because the story is so BORING. The adaptation really helped me get through a story I'd always wanted to experience. The artwork is so beautiful. ...more

I know one thing: Of all the paranormal creepy crawlies out there, Vampires are the ones I needn't ever worry about. Mosquitoes don't even like me, so it's doubtful a vamp would bite on the opportunity...even as a last resort. Besides, I consume a lot of authentic Asian food and have an affinity for those deli-style pickles you can only get in the cooler section of your local food market, all of which contain obscene amounts of garlic. So there you have it.

Anyway, enough side-tracking... This wa

Actually a pretty solid adaptation. It sticks close to the original, as every book in this series does, and the manga style is much more restrained here than it has been in other entries in the series. No improbably manga hair, for anybody! I was particularly happy with Dracula's character design, which sticks close to the book's descriptions of him and makes him look menacing without being grotesque. It's interesting that they chose to stick with the format of the original book, which is mostly ...more

A solid manga adaptation of Bram Stoker's sensational horror novel Dracula, this version highlights the original's epistolary style by having each character's individual story presented with different handwriting and/or fonts. An abridged text, this version still manages to capture the suspense and the action of the original, and the manga style is particularly well suited to the story's fantastic transformations (vampires into bats, mist) and dramatic violence. Some confusing transitions and pl ...more

Honestly, this was one of the best Manga Classics I've read so far! The book was legitimately creepy, I loved the character designs, and I thought that the adaptation was true to the book, even though a lot had to be taken out. Since this is something of a wordy book (being an epistolary novel), I was impressed that the manga didn't feel too wordy, even though there was a lot of text.

All in all, this made me see Dracula in a whole new light, and I can't wait to reread the classic tale of the Cou

3.5 stars. Stays closer to the original novel than most adaptations (Dracula is scarier and more sinister that way, not a romantic hero/antihero), and has nice artwork. The epistolary nature of the work can get a bit confusing with all the voice-switches, but the creators went to the trouble of giving every character their own font ('handwriting') to try to clarify who was narrating when. A good adaptation for anyone who is interested in reading the original work but doesn't have the patience to ...more

...more

This is one of the most accurate adaptations of the original novel I have ever had the joy to read. You can tell that the story has been taken and transformed to the manga version with much love, whilst still capturing the very essence of the book. The art is pretty with the characters rendered nicely.

I think they did about as good as they could with the source material. I thought the artwork was the best of the series and the story itself is atypical from the modern vampire genre but great for its time.

Good adaptation although there were a few panels where the line drawing seemed to be unfinished...I know it took a while to get this published and I wonder if the artwork was rushed at the end.

Best Visual Adaptation

Only nitpick is how the kukri knife was drawn.
I cannot imagine fans of Bram Stoker's original Dracula to be disappointed by this faithful manga version of the classic vampire tale. From Jonathan Harker's growing horror at his employer's identity to the death of sweet, innocent Lucy Westenra to the alliance cobbled together by Van Helsing, it's all here, made even better with the detailed black and white illustrations. Readers will gasp as a stake is driven into Lucy's heart and shudder at poor Renfield's fondness for spiders and flies. As g ...more

I almost gave up on this adaptation, even if I wanted so much to read it. Yeah, I've never read the original novel and I've never watched one of the movie they made about Dracula.

I read this novel in one sitting on the train, on my way to Europe's biggest comic con in Lucca. It was a bit hard to follow, to be honest, but the authors did a wonderful job as usual. I adore the Manga Classics collection.

I love the art and the way the adaptor
That was.... quite amusing. And not in a particularly good way. While Dracula is a dramatic and even melodramatic story, this manga style graphic novel brings out the worst. What works as a serious novel doesn’t work as a manga. I laughed at then ending. Just another entry in the annals of books that should not be messed with. I think a straightforward graphic adaptation would work, just not this manga style.

My library has got a whole pile of these manga classics in and I have fallen in love with them. They have the most beautiful illustrations, but more than that they are really faithful to the original story.

This was a very faithful re-telling of the classic Dracula and it was just exquisite. I am looking forward to reading more of these as they are a great way to revisit a classic story without having to do a complete re-read (one of these can be read in a few hours).

I admit I haven't read the original, so I can't speak as to the adaptation, but I really enjoyed this. I thought they handled the epistolary nature of the original novel really well into a mainly image-driven format. The story was well-told and gripping and I'm even more interested in reading the novel now. ...more

A VERY faithful adaptation on the Stroker novel.
Reading in the Manga form takes some getting used to.
But this is very well done.
(Even if Van Hesling looks like the comic book J.J.J. from the Spider-Man comics.)

A decent read and a very faithful adaptation of the novel. The ending felt very abrupt and anti-climatic for me.
