The Vineyard DNA - Essential History, Values & Practices: Essential History, Values & Practices

Rate this book
The Vineyard DNA - Essential History, Values, & Practices of the Vineyard Movement Science tells us that the DNA of any organism contains the road map for the identity, characteristics, and unique markers of that organism. The genetic code found in DNA determines the genetic expression of any living being - and what eventually comes from that organism. This handbook, The Vineyard DNA, is a non-exhaustive compilation of the history, theological commitments, distinctive concepts, central values, and family practices intended to help readers and leaders "de-code" the unique identity - the DNA - of the Vineyard Movement of churches. In these pages is an overview of the Vineyard's origin story, the priority the Kingdom of God to our daily living, our central practices of worship and being led by the Holy Spirit, and our belief in the empowerment of everyday people to participate in the work of the Gospel on the earth today. Learn why and how the Vineyard moment is committed to evangelism, discipleship, leadership multiplication, diversity, justice, concern for the poor, and "doing what the Father is doing" - in all areas of Kingdom life. This handbook is intended to serve as a snapshot of the Vineyard family, taken by the family itself, that will hopefully be used to help others inside and outside of the Vineyard to understand our identity.

For anyone who has been or wants to be a part of the Vineyard Christian Church, this book covered the concepts of beliefs, history, and practical application in step-by-step form. It was easy to read and great for group discussion or reading alone.

My only reason for not rating it 5 stars was the layout. I felt that it could have been structured and organized better. However, since I understand it was pieced together by MANY authors, it explains the reason for the somewhat jigsaw format. This, I believe, may have been done on purpose to give the book a more widespread taste of the values written from various leaders in the Vineyard movement.

Overall, good book and it is helpful to have beliefs put into physical words on paper.

As a Vineyard church meme we for over 30 years, I so appreciate this summary of what makes the Vineyard distinct and why these are our values.
Only doing what we see the Father doing, partnering with the Holy Spirit, no hype or performance, everyone gets to play, remember the poor - these characteristics reflect a Jesus we don’t always see today.
