Flying at the helm of a powerful battle cruiser, former pirate Catarina Vargus leads a collection of colonists, miners, engineers, and navy personnel to establish an outpost far beyond the frontier. The Royal Navy needs a forward operating base in their war against the alien race known as Apex, who has vowed to exterminate all sentient life in the quarter.
Catarina's expedition soon draws the attention of Scandian marauders, driven from their home worlds by plague and war in search of plunder. Enraged by the intrusion into their territory and greedy to seize her fleet and supplies, they mount a fleet of star wolves to destroy her base before it can get a toehold.
THE VOID QUEEN TRILOGY, now in a complete compilation for the first time, is over seven hundred pages of space battles, alien wars, and interstellar politics.

For the genre, this is a very well written book. That is not to say that is devastatingly fantastic and has become the new focus of my thoughts. (As some great books have done.) It is worth reading more than once, if the goal is to entertain and distract. I got the trilogy box set and was pleased with it. Had I bought the individual stories, I would have rated it lower since they meld so flawlessly I would be angry to have three short books to tell one story. I buy no books shorter than 300 pages. I hate the marketing ploy that milks more money from readers by chopping up stories into pieces and using cliffhangers to string the customers along.
A trio of space adventures and conflicts between an established human empire, rogue pirates, self styled viking raiders and a non human bird like race that is intent on killing off any other races it finds. What I found a bit disturbing was the description of the space battles which could just as well describing a seal battle in the age of sail on earth. Somehow it didn't fit well in the time and place of the books. Lots of battles between the factions and eventually a grudging joining against the birds who were a menace to all.
A trilogy of superb science fiction books that will blow your socks off! Michael Wallace is an exceptional author with the talent to bring a story to life. The characters in these books, some good, some evil, are very realistic. You will have a ton of fun reading The Void Queen Trilogy and the best part is you don't have to wait for the next book to be written!
Brilliantly wrote, a dam good read. For me this is sc fi at its best. Good characters plenty of action. This is the first time I've read Michael books, and it certainly will not be the last.
Thoroughly enjoyable. Almost non-stop action. In fact there was almost too many battle scenes. My biggest question as I came to the end of book 3 is where do they get all the ammunition?
This the second set of books I have had the pleasure to add to my collection from Mr Wallace. Just like the first set it is action and adventure from page one . I must. comment on the cast of characters so well developed and easily one's to root for.
