3.5 Rounded up.
I found Meinel's book easy to read with an involved and fully-worked out plot. Some of the antagonists were a little stereotyped but it still fit within the story line. One thing I enjoyed was the way Meinel struck the truth of the main characters personalities and fears. Ryley was displaced so far into the future she couldn't help her disbelieve that any of it was real. I would have felt the same way in her place. And Mercédès was a woman/android hybrid who struggled to show how ...more

‘Recombinant Love’ is a fantastic science fiction novel, an adventure not just in terms of storyline but also in character development. It is an epic love story between two very different women from very different times. Ryley Graham disappears from 2015 and wakes up 500 years later. As she struggles to adjust to her new life she becomes drawn to Mercedes, half human, half machine. Dealing with her feelings and letting go of the past are only part it for her. Why was she taken? And by whom?

I enjoyed this book but some things threw me off. It was a little slow in the beginning. I had read the author’s posts about fearing her book seeming too much like popular culture, and indeed, there was some similarity in the beginning. It felt like fan fiction. Some characters definitely reminded me of TV characters. That worried me initially but the book picked up steam as I read it, and the author made it her own. It’s an interesting universe.

*I was given a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair review
K'Anne has provided and interesting take on the Sci-fi theme. For the reader using similar terminology to popular tv shows and movies allows the reader to concentrate more on the story arc than on the environment in which it has been set.
I found the main characters interesting and the supporting characters less so. In some ways I would have liked to see abit more development in the Captain and one of the main characters within the crew ...more

K'anne Meinel's space romance has some unexpected plot twists and has a differnt plot then other "space travel" novels. some character felt like those from tv shows and movies. For myself I would like more detailed descriptions as a visual reader. Overall an enjoyable novel, recieved a ARC copy for a honest review, would buy.

Wonderful story!
This was a beautiful story about love, romance and differences that eventually meant nothing compared to the emotions and desires if the people involved. What a wonderful take on the whole alien abduction theme and how love and romance is the same everywhere. I loved the characters and the interactions. The story was excellent, exciting and captivating all the way through.
