This novella was first released as part of an anthology. As always, Ms. Martin’s writing is superb. The characters are memorable, the plot is well developed and the romance is swoon-worthy. You will be on pins and needles right up to the last chapter – will they get their HEA or won’t they? Your fingers will be flipping the pages just as quickly as your eyes can devour the words.

The Madam's Highlander was sent to me for an honest review. I LOVED it! I am a member of a Feminist Romance reading group and will be submitting this title to the group to read! I can't gush enough about this book. Ms. Martin never disappoints with her romances. On to the plot-

Freya Campbell did not employ virgins. she took in war widows, of whom there were many, and grown women wanting to work but lacking the skills for genteel labor. That's the first few lines of this novella. Those lines had me sit up and get closer to the screen. It gets better! Freya runs an establishment for... let's just say entertainment for the fellas, mostly, soldiers. What's so interesting is, she educates her women. Freya keeps to herself, she don't entertain. One night as usual, she notice ...more

Madeline Martin once again delivers another thrilling tale with a unique storyline. This time she introduces us to Freya, a Madam at a popular establishment and Ewan, a Highland born Black Watch English Captain. Their lives become entangled after Ewan asks Freya for a favour and things do not go as expected. There are some exciting moments for this couple and their families. I was drawn into the story right from the start and became attached to each of theses characters. I received this book for ...more

Intriguing, suspenseful and emotional are a few of the descriptions that come to mind as I turn the last page. For a novella, this story packed in enough at a fast pace to keep my attention from the beginning. Things are not always as they appear and Freya Campbell, owner of a bawdy house is not what she seems. Captain Ewan Fraser on the other hand is trying to make up for past wrongs done by his father siding with the British against his own people. Seeking Freya's aid to check on his mother, w ...more

I actually read this as part of the Historical Hellions anthology.

Ewan Fraser is a member of the Black Watch, he joined in hopes of redeeming his honor after his father was hung as a traitor.

Freya is the owner of a brothel and loathes the English and the Black Watch - so when Ewan asks Freya for help - she refuses.

Desperate to save his mother he does the only thing he can - he threatens hers! Furious Freya has no choice but to agree.

When she goes to his home and finds it burned and his mothe

Whoever said that a Madam to a bawdy house is respectable, with morals and a heart of gold? Freya Campbell is all that and more but that’s not what she portrays. If she’s caught she’d be prosecuted as a traitor and her family depends on her, many others as well.

Ewan Fraser is a Scott that serves in the Black Guard, he’s been denied to visit his family and he needs to know if his family has survived the war.
Knowing that Freya travels near his home he blackmails her into helping him. What ensues i

A fun short story!

The Madam's Highlander, a novella nicely written by Madeline Martin, was previously in the *Historical Hellions and Lords of Love anthologies*. If you're looking for a romantic story, then Ewan and Freya's journey, will surely please you, as much as I did! A beautiful Scottish adventure to watch for!

The Madam's Highlander by Madeline Martin is book Two in the Highland Passions. This is the story of Freya Campbell and Ewan Fraser. I have read the previous book, but feel you can make this a standalone if you wish to do so. This book was also in the 'Historical Hellions and Lords of Love anthologies' but now can be purchased on it's own.

Freya Campbell runs a brothel, but she's not your typical Madam. She's ensuring that the women who end up at her establishment have a chance to learn other skills and have a safe place to stay. She feeds the poor and does a whole lot of charity work which does not add up to the character of a Madam.
That's what intrigues Ewan Fraser, a Captain in the Black Watch. He's trying to remove the tag of traitor that was attached to his father not realizing the actual actions taken by that man saved many

This is the first book of Ms Martins that I have read and I received it as an ARC. It was not what I expected and I loved it. It is very different from the usual ballroom romances. It was full of emotion, sadness, joy ,suspense and action. It was only a short story but I found it was full of everything you want in love story. I enjoyed the fact that it took you out of the Ton and the ballrooms and into the tough struggles the Scots had with the English. I found it hard to put down and know that ...more

This is a great story from beginning to end. It captured my attention from the very first page and I was so drawn in that in some places...  well.... Warning: tear jerker! There are some crazy emotional parts, there is no way you can be human and not ball like a baby!   There were parts that made me laugh too. I loved fraya and Captain Nay's (Ewan) adventure. I loved that everyone got the ending they deserved. This is one of the stories that you wish you could know every little detail of the cha ...more

I was given a copy of The Madam's Highlander in exchange for an honest review. This book can be read alone but I do wish that I could follow their lives further down the road. I really liked the characters in this book. Freya, the hard working young woman just trying her hardest to take care of her family as well as caring for others who also need help around her. Ewan, the quiet male, trying to do what he thinks is right. I love that the characters rely on each other to help get through the sit ...more

I received an advanced copy of the Historical Hellions collection in exchange for my honest review of Madeline Martin's contribution "THE MADAME'S HIGHLANDER".
"THE MADAME'S HIGHLANDER" is a re-released novella, originally published as part of the Historical Hellions collection in 2017.

The characters the scenarios going on just all of it was amazing and wonderfully well written like all of Madelines books of course. I am an avid reader of anything she writes, she is truly amazing at what she does.

Madeline Martin’s writing keeps getting better and better, not that I thought that was even possible as her prior books are amazing. The storyline was wonderful and the visual was so descriptive I could just picture it all in my mind. The Madam’s Highlander has ambitions, pride, kindness, a love for family and a trust that is put to the test, hard work, desertion, traitors, evil, rape, battle and duty, even a brothel, in other words it has it all. I highly recommend this Novella as you won’t be ...more

what do you get when you mix an honorable highlander with a madam that is running a thriving business? Lots of tension.

Freya is doing the best she can to run her business and take care of her mom and sister.

Ewan has never wanted to be branded as a traitor like his father was, but he worries about his mom.

When he blackmails Freya into checking on his mom, circumstances lead them on a roller coaster ride. One of the best stories I've read in a while. Don't miss it.

Freya Campbell owned Molly's, a whorehouse. But it was not just that, she did many things to help the women and children who had nowhere to go. Captain Ewan Fraser was in the Black Watch, he needed to ask her a favor.
This was a novella but it was well written, moved smoothly and was evenly paced. It was emotional, a little sad. but a way of life was explained. The pain of the Scottish people, the cruelty and the
uncaring demeanor. It was a moving book, I found I could not put it down but I did c

I could not stop turning pages. The strength of Freya and her determination made the story move along quickly. Ewan's misplaced loyalties and beliefs lead them into a lot interesting and dangerous situations, but I enjoyed the ride. There were laughs, tears, and smiles all along the way. I highly recommend this story.

This is my unsolicited review.

A riveting book

5 stars as it deserved. I have not had so many changes of feelings, in such a relatively short time. There was so much going on all the time, which I had no idea how this would work out, but it would, with reasonable explanations. It was a wild ride of emotions anxiety, hope, impossibility, relief, all with sweet, exciting love scenes worked in. I loved all the characters. The H and h were strong good especially the heroine. She took care of everyone, helped heal the hero, to hope

OMG! What an incredible book. At times it was heart-breaking. At others it was uplifting. You can't help but fall in love with the characters. They have depth and their stories pull you in and don't let you go. The history of the English dominating the Scottish people and how they crush any resistance was the most heart-breaking account I ever read. I have never cried reading a book but this one made me bawl. Thank you, Ms. Martin, for writing such an incredible book!
