I was excited to have won a paperback copy of Brink of Dawn by Jeff Altabef, after reading the first book in the Chosen series, Wind Catcher. The series is a fantastic teen and young adult fantasy and science fiction read. Brink of Dawn picks up where Wind Catcher left off, but it can stand alone.

Juliet Wildfire Stone lives up to her name. She has powers: hears peoples thoughts and reads their emotions, possess animals, super strength and speed, telekinesis, heals instantly…a regular superhero.

The second book in the series picks up a week later after the first book, Wind Catcher. Brink of Dawn brings a bit of a twist from the first book.

Juliet Wildfire Stone, has left Arizona to travel across the United States to find others like herself in New York. With Troy by her side, Juliet seeks out the Inn where she has been summoned.

Juliet has many abilities.
"I have five so far: I can hear other people's thoughts and read their emotions; I can possess animals for a short period of time; I

This is a captivating continuation of the life or death adventures of the previous 'Wind Catcher' prequel!

Brink o Dawn leads our main characters to New York where they meet up with the very diverse personalities of the other three "Chosen". Is it truly possible for them to become a "team"? Will they be able to combat centuries of evil? The human race depends on them! They are but youth. How can they stop such powerful and evil forces?∇

The story steadily progresses and further defines each charac

First thing, stunning book cover. The first book I was totally in awe of the cover now the second book just made me go "Wow." Now you know you're in trouble, in a good way right?

Energetic vibe with the mystic it should have. Juliet Half Native American, Sicheii and Irish, magically and spiritually powerful but yet to find her place and Troy her bestie or is it? Handsome exterior, almond-colored eyes the chiseled chin, long raven hair that falls past his broad shoulders in a tight braid. Ugh! Foc

Brink of Dawn is the second book in the Chosen series. Although a reader can grab this book without reading Wind Catcher and still get the general gist of what's going on, I wouldn't recommend it. There are quite a few characters chasing a general goal, but the meaning of this goal and the importance of the task aren't really clear without the background of book one.

That said, this is a book running on full tilt. There's actions - tons of action -, mystery and a sense of tension, which radiates

This book is the second book in the Chosen series of books. Warning if you have not read Wind Catcher this review could have spoilers. This book is a continuation of Juliet’s story. Juliet called Jules by her good friend Troy, is learning to use her powers, while discovering new powers as she goes along. Juliet has a vision and sees through the eyes of a dark spirit, as Troy likes to call them, that they know she is hunting and killing Seekers. While Juliet is not alone in her abilities, she is ...more

The Brink of Dawn is a well paced step that keeps you in stride with its characters to the very end. Five teenagers, 2 girls and 3 boys, find themselves drawn into dangers that press them beyond natural ability and into their destiny. Each one is chosen. Each one is equipped with special abilities, and each one is driven for a purpose. Much rides, not on the abilities they've been given, but on their ability to control their gifts, and find a unity amongst themselves that will strengthen their p ...more

Pretty good

Even though the book is predictable, it still had the air of surprise in it, which made it hard to put it down!

MAY CONTAIN SPOILER:

This book is enthralling and leaves you begging for more!

My favorite character is Connor because he is laid back and relaxed, but whenever you need him, he will be there for you.

My favorite scene is the end when Juliet drinks from the vial because it makes me want to read more!

Better read the first book first as we are straight into a world of Native American legends merging with alien DNA, Prime Electors, Alphians, Deltites, Chosen, Uglies and Elites. Telekinesis and other talents abound, some seeming to be made up to serve the immediate story purpose. If you don't have an idea what is going on you haven't much chance of picking up as you go. Some of this instalment is set in modern New York. A nice touch is that someone worries about homeless children in the city. N ...more

Wow!

I thought the first book was good but this topped it by miles. I loved the way it makes you think about what could happen. Juliet tries to keep Troy safe but this leaves her open to everything so she had to try and keep him out of sight and away from danger.
She meets with the other "chosen" and Troy is her rock he wants to protect her he's been through everything with her, she lets him think he is when in reality she's looking out for him all the time.
You always think you know what's going

Brink of Dawn

When I have trouble putting a book down it means it has my attention. I can't say enough about it but I have enjoyed book 1 & 2 very much. It has a very interesting sci-fi to it. I'm hooked. On to book #3.

My Thoughts:

Is it possible to actually fall in love with something or someone more than you already are?
Yep, absolutely possible.
And that is pretty much what has happened with this series, these authors, and the characters. The Chosen series really does keep getting better and better.
I love that in the second installment, Brink of Dawn, we delve deeper into the prophecy and realize it isn't only central to Native American folklore

Brink of Dawn was a fast-paced novel that is second in the Chosen series but can be read as a stand-alone novel. Juliet and Troy travel to New York where Juliet meets up with the other 3 Chosen. It is here that they are to prepare to meet “an ancient foe that threatens all humanity.”

These four young people, who were chosen for this quest, have to learn to work out not only their own issues, but stop fighting amongst themselves and learn to work together. As they change and learn how to use their

I read Wind Catcher (the first Chosen book) earlier this year and loved it. In fact, when I got my copy of Brink of Dawn, I thought I'd skim through the first book to refresh my memory of the story so far – and wound up re-reading the entire thing. Wind Catcher tied up most of its loose ends, but left a few dangling to ensure that I'd rush to read the next book ASAP. Some of those mysteries that were introduced in the first book are explained, or at least further explored, in this follow-up. And ...more

In Brink of Dawn, Juliet and her best friend, Troy, leave all that they are familiar with in Arizona, in order to search for three other Chosen in the city of New York. Finding Akari, Blake, and Connor proves easier than Juliet anticipates and soon, the group is training to kick Deltite butt and save the world from the invasion of an evil race.

I like Juliet as a protagonist. She thinks like a typical teenage girl, and worries about most things I probably would worry about if I were in her shoes.

Brink of Dawn is an incredibly thrilling young adult fantasy complete with intense action and invaluable friendships. This is book two in the Chosen Series and it is just as captivating as the first book, Wind Catchers. A host of new characters make an appearance and readers get the chance to meet the other Chosen ones. Juliet's impressive abilities continue to emerge and she soon discovers she is the one who will lead the other Chosen in their fight to save the world. However, they'll have to s ...more

Brink of Dawn is a well-paced fantasy novel that is told through the point of view of an enhanced female named Juliet. She has magical powers that cause her to run from an organization that is out to get her, and all four others with similar special abilities. Juliet is one of five chosen, who each have special abilities that aid them in achieving their destinies.

I had some trouble keeping up with the plotline of the book, as I had never read the previous one in the trilogy, Wind Catcher. For

I have to admit that I started reading this and couldn't remember what on earth happened in book 1, Wind Catcher. Because of that, I had to scramble a little to get myself up to speed - and Brink of Dawn doesn't give you much clues. Or it does, but rather disjointedly.

Written in the voice of Juliet Wildfire Stone, who is not only Chosen, but also their Alpha, you get a glimpse of a sixteen year old struggling to be good enough, but not always believing it. She rails against why she must be "spe

This is the second installment in The Chosen series. It picks up the story of Juliet and Troy as they leave Arizona and make their way to the New York City in hopes of finding out more information about Juliet’s Chosen Status. We are also introduced to Connor, Blake and Akari, The remaining chosen from around the world. They recieve training and more information about their mission, but all is not what they seem, and they need to be careful about they trust.

Loved it! Read it straight though. So, this book takes up right where the first book, The Wind Catcher, ended. Juliet and her best bud Troy are a great duo. Troy is always by her side, ready to fight at a moments notice, even though he doesn't have any superpowers. Plus, he is a connection to her Native American heritage and keeps her balanced. Juliet really struggles with allowing him to remain with the new group of four, but she only does it because she cares. Of course, Troy follows his own i ...more

A great young adult book with a new plot line. In continuing on their journey, Juliet Wildfire Stone and her best friend Troy Buckhorn make some big decisions and discover even more exciting and frightening things about Juliet's powers and what is supposed to be her destiny as Alpha in the Order of the Twisted Arrows. The book took me somewhere that I didn't see coming which was refreshing after reading so many predictable young adult books lately. I really enjoyed getting to know the other teen ...more

This is the second book in the Chosen series. I reviewed Wind Catcher here. In this book we find Juliet and Troy trying to locate the other “chosen”. This is the only way they can battle the Deltaite and have a chance of winning. Juliet and her friends must each learn to control the special ability or ‘gift’ they have. Juliet has a gift of “seeing visions” yet she doesn’t trust herself enough with her gift. This is what makes this book stand out among others with similar plot lines. You have cha ...more

OKAY, I LOVE THIS. I LOVE CONNOR. I LOVE TROY. WHAT IS LIFE, I CAN'T CHOOSE HELP.

Well, I definitely love the additional characters. I love the flow of the story. So far, I think this series will just go on one road - the better for the better.

All about Stuart was predictable and even now, Sydney doesn't make sense to me. And Connor feels like Nine to me. I love Nine. Troy is more of... Troy. He's unique and I love him. Jules became so much more

This book is even better than the first in the series. The four chosen come together in New York and start working on their gifts and working together. This book continues where book 1 left off. I enjoyed this continuation of the Chosen story. It was a while since I read book one so I had to dig in my memory to follow along. When the book switched to another character at the start of the novel, I was confused thinking I missed something in my memory so I wish it was a little clarified at the beginning of this tale. I was also turned off by the obvious plot drops about 65% through the book. I know this is a YA book, but I felt it was a tad simpl ...more

Brink of Dawn by Jeff Altabef is the second book of the Chosen series. It can be read as a stand alone but it is recommended to read Wind Catcher first as the meanings of goals and tasks aren't really clear without the background from book one. There is lots of action, mystery and a feeling of tension you feel as you read this book.

All characters come into their own with their own background, personality and problems. Just so you know the chapters do go back and forth between characters but it i
