The Cathedral pits the utilitarian and filthy ore smelting plant against the dilapidated, but inspiring cathedral, ignored during the Soviet era and used as a grain store. "The plants covered the whole horizon with smoke. They had no days off. Day and night they smoked with epic calm. The cathedral exuded its soft silhouette from the sky. It stood on the distant horizon, protruding through in the transparent blue haze of distance. From a different perspective the cathedral domes and the plant ch

"Charish the cathedrals of your souls"...

This novel is not as warm as Дім на горі, as action-fulfiled as Диво, it is special in its own way. Fates of different people from different ages (even centuries) interweave with the destiny of the old cathedral. This monument of kozak's barocco isn't the main hero, no. It is a landscape for pepole's life, an unseperable part of everydays living. People from Zachiplanka are ф part of it and it is a part of them. What a fanciful pattern of life!

The struggle for the revival of spirituality, for the historical memory of people as ...more

It was just ok. I wanted to like this book, and at times it reminded me of Turgenev. The story was a bit confusing with the narrative changes.
