“The Lighthouse Dog” by Betty Warteton is a heartwarming story about “The Captain’s Wife” who goes into town one day to pick up a new puppy. She is told by her husband to only get a small one, however, finds it difficult to say not to a huge Newfoundland when it presents itself. Bringing the dog home, the captain struggles to accept the monstrous pup as it only seems to deal damage. However, when things turn sour one night, the dog rushes to the rescue and changes the captains perspective.
I believe that this book will capture the hearts of both children and adults. This would be great to have in the classroom to teach children the importance of not judging a book by it’s cover and the power of believing in something or someone when others have turned their back.
I greatly enjoyed the illustrations in this book.

This book is a sweet story about the Captain’s Wife who one-day rows into town to pick out a new puppy. Her husband tells her only to get a small one but picks out the biggest dog. After she brings the dog home, it causes so much trouble the captain wants to send it back. Before they could, a huge storm came making it impossible to leave. That's until the dog comes to the rescue which changes the captain's perspective.

I loved this book and all the illustrations in it. It was very heartwarming and had a happy ending.

This book can be used in the classroom to teach children not to judge but to give people chances.

This is an enjoyable story told in a clever and funny way. The author used humour throughout in telling about a captain’s wife buying a puppy, a very large puppy she named Molly, and the problems they had with her. The use of “almost” adds a fun touch, and the characters are delightful. Molly was about to be returned when the weather changed and Molly gets to prove herself. Great story with wonderful illustrations.
