I had previously read the first edition. This second edition adds (after 5 years) some new texts and people, and is sadly able to write the "-201x)" to so many of its thumbnail-sketch biographies. I am always grateful to an anthology when it introduces me to a new author; among others, I discovered John Barth (back in 1993) and Karen Russell (in 2022) by reading through anthologies. This one introduced me to Ali Smith, for which I remain always thankful to the editors.
