Volume notes: A volume with a chapter where Fumino shines! Easily 5 stars.
Series review: "We Never Learn" or #BokuBen is a comedy manga that draws its laughs from the interactions of the main character Yuiga with his harem, I mean, his classmates Fumino, Ogata, and Uruka. He tutors them, with a college scholarship on the line for him. There are also two other supporting characters in the periphery, teacher Kirasu, and recent alum Asumi, whose orbits sometimes cross into the paths of the main cast. It has the usual pervy tropes found in manga of its ilk, although toned down because of the high school setting. It was a manga I did not expect to enjoy as much as I did. It gave me that "finale high" which I associate with stories that get me as a reader.
One reason I probably enjoyed this series is the earnestness of the main character. One can't help but cheer for him. He's a good guy and hopelessly clueless sometimes, which is main component of his charm.
Nariyuki gets time one on one with all five of the girls here. So far, I'm liking him with Uruka the best, but he has a good friendship with everyone. Again, the art is super cute. And this is another one where the students have to go home, they can't stop for snacks- seems like it would be more time effecent to stop on the way home than go home and then go back out... cultural differences!
The farther this goes, the sexier & funnier it gets.
I have LOL'd so so many times reading this series. I absolutely love it. The more I read, the more it reminds me of myself & various friends, classmates, paramours, & rivals in school. Ok yeah I'm totally on team mermaid. The shoulder length black hair, that dusky tan skin.... mm, mm, mm. Absolutely fabulous. Brings back memories that make me smile. My1st high school gf was this gorgeous Latina, who totally fell for me after I stepped in & helped her fix her class project, so she wouldn't fail the class. We didn't have a swim team at that high school, but she was a swimmer... yeah, she was a swimmer & a hugger. Good times. Then I abruptly had to move away at the end of the year & was sent far away & had no way to contact her. Alas, was not meant to be. Next gf, half Samoan, half Black. Next gf, Latina again. Next gf, Flathead Indian. Next gf, half Colville Indian. Next gf, Filipino. (No not all in HS lol sheesh, id6never have time to study!) So yeah, I've got a thing for dark, shorter haired girls with tan/bronze/olive/smokey skintone. And tomboys (I know right, weird?) So I'm rooting for our swimming ace. I really love this manga. So much fun. It's serious, yet funny, too. I just love it! And, the harem grows! Could this kid get any more lucky? And he's completely ignorant of the fact that half a dozen cute girls (and his cute sister?!?!) Have crushes on him. Such a comedy of errors. Just wait till the hotel chapter. So cute & so romantic. Sleeping beauty, what on God's green Earth are you doing there with sensei??? Art, very well done. Dialogue, very good, & very entertaining. Characters, relatable, likable, fun, & engaging. You find yourself rooting for all the girls at different times.
I've gotten to know the characters is this manga and they keep me going.
I suspect the manga, "The Quintessential Quintuplets" might be seen as being similar, but there, the characters were indistinguishable to me. Here, each character is unique and that's what makes this manga interesting.
Some of the stories are lame and some are sweet, but I like seeing the characters and learning about them as the story develops. I probably will invest in a few more volumes to continue to follow them.
4/5 We get a couple fun festival chapters ending with an unintended sleepover with Fumino. Asumi’s father wants proof that Nariyuki & Asumi are dating. Then Nariyuki goes to Uruka’s swim meet to support her.
Still fun. Still cute.
Our girls in their festival yukata on the cover of volume 5.
So far this series is pretty fun, and it is a shame my library doesn't have any more volumes to borrow. I like the characters and how chaotic their lives really are. I like the character interactions. It has a good plot and pace and is a fun series over all. I hope I am able to read more volumes.
Is it weird that I have a crush on a fictional manga character? I absolutely love this series and each graphic novel gets better and better!!! By far my favorite volume!!!
Lots of Furuhashi stuff this volume! Getting her backstory is sweet, even if it comes along with a bunch of sensei stuff. Nothing in this volume is too offensive.
Volume: 7/10

Holy shit, I love this series! I don't care that it's cliched, I don't care that it's drowning in tropes, I DON'T CARE BECAUSE I LOVE IT!! The characters' expressions get better and better with each volume, the characters themselves are so much fun and I love watching them interact, and the comedy is still spot on. Yes, some chapters aren't as funny as others and yes there are a LOT of contrivances to push each wacky scenario further, but it's all just so damn fun that I don't care. Hell, I love this series so much that I'm not even bothered by Kirisu or her awkward, slightly perverted encounters with Yuiga anymore. Holy fuck I never thought I'd reach that point, and so early on in the series at that, but here I am anyway. I would love to gush and gush and gush, but all I'd be doing is telling you what happens page for page and I'd rather you read it yourselves. This series never ceases to put a smile on my face and is a great pick me up when I'm down. I love it and hope you do, too!
Another hilarious installment of let's put the bland male lead in as many awkward situations as we can with our growing harem of beauties.
But props to the writer for turning a pervy situation into a really sweet and heart-wrenching flashback. Fumino is so cute. But I still ship Uruka and Nariyuki (and apparently the author does too because they get a total of three chapters together).
If you don't like pervy harem style stories, this one might not be up your alley, but I encourage you to try it out because it does a good job with the humor.
