Wonderfully dark, with often sweetly disturbing twists and an air of much left 'unsaid'.
A special favourite (as a knitter), and, one that will probably appeal to other avid knitters, is 'A Needle for the Devil' ... what would you do if your partner demanded you stop knitting and lacked any understanding of your need to knit?
It's always a pleasure to hear George Baker read Rendell's work, even when he is not in the character of Inspector Wexford, and Isla Blair is always a delightful reader.
