This short story basically repeats Hoke's background from "Leaving Independence" with little additional information. I didn't really need any explanations about his past because I trusted his character already. However, it showed me his softer side that had been hardened by experience by the time we originally met him. This short story gives the readers the back story of Hoke Mathews from the book Leaving Independence. I loved Hoke and was glad to get his point of view. I can't wait to read James' story.

I hate mini books. this could easily have been an extra chapter in leaving independence. I feel sad that I paid for this. no new information. I'm ready for a full new book about James. *edited to a 3 since Leanne was kind enough to comment and I'm excited about the new book! ...more
