From New York Times bestselling author Cindy Dees – a captivating Code: Warrior SEALs romance New Orleans detective Bastien LeBlanc is stumped by his new client, Carrie Price. The Navy SEAL must find Carrie's kidnapped boss. Bass has never been a relationship kind of guy, so he's floored by his undeniable attraction to Carrie. But can he trust her? Now all that can come between them are secrets from their pasts…and the all–too–real killer bearing down on them.
Cindy Dees started flying airplanes while sitting in her dad’s lap at the age of three and got a pilot’s license before she got a driver’s license. At age fifteen, she dropped out of high school and left the horse farm in Michigan where she grew up to attend the University of Michigan.
After earning a degree in Russian and East European studies, she joined the U.S. Air Force and became the youngest female pilot in the history of the Air Force. She flew supersonic jets, VIP airlift and the “C-5” Galaxy, the world’s largest airplane. She also worked part-time gathering intelligence. During her military career, she traveled to forty countries on five continents, was detained by the KGB and East German secret police, she got shot at, flew in the first Gulf War, met her husband and amassed a lifetime’s worth of war stories.
Her hobbies include professional Middle Eastern dancing, Japanese gardening and medieval reenacting. She started writing on a one-dollar bet with her mother and was thrilled to win that bet with the publication of her first book in 2001.
I rolled my eyes so much that they probably are now somewhere on the floor. This book was full of clichés and a super irritating and stupid heroine. She behaved like a teenager. The "big" secret wasn't really a secret, it felt like one more plot device the author tick marked.
The heroine is best described in the book with : She was an idiot. She deserved to die. For real.
The hero also wasn't that impressionable. In the end I JUST DIDNT CARE what happened to them.
Cindy Dees is my favorite author in the HQ Romance Suspense line. Love the New Orleans setting, the way she uses the military background, and the on-going heat between Bass and Carrie.
This book is the 4th in the Code: Warrior SEALs series. It's a stand alone and doesn't have to be read in order. There is no cliff hangers and it does contain a HEA. The book started out great, actually couldn't put it down, by the middle I was shaking my head at the heroine and just wanted to skip pages to get to a point that was interesting again, thank goodness near the end the book picked back up with some fast-paced, action and saved it.
Bastien LeBlanc is a New Orleans detective and a Navy SEAL on the weekends. He was called to a house about a kidnapping, the caller, Carrie Price, the camera woman for her boss on the America's Ghosts show. On meeting her he is stumped by emotions she brings out that he usually keeps pushed low. Bass doesn't do relationships but cannot deny his attraction to Carrie. Neither is sure that they can trust each other, he knows she's hiding something and tends to find out what it is. Carrie plans to keep that secret so, she must keep running and she's got good at hiding too. Now a real killer is after her and an in order for Bass to save Carrie he must expose some secrets from the past before they can move forward.
This is the second book I've read from this series and I really enjoyed it. Bass reminds me of a typical guy who hasn't let anyone close. Then enter Carrie. I love the way the book was started with the question of what happened. Then the book had a neat way Cindy did this story. It keeps people guessing as to what is going on. Is it about the show? Or? Is it about something else. It keeps you guessing til just about the end. The bad guy turns out to be something of a surprise. But I like how she keeps the suspense going. For she even stumps the SEAL which is hard to do. I like how there is different twists to this story. That causes the ending to be a bit of a surprise. I look forward to the next in this series. At least I hope there is.
This story starts off funny - a paranormal TV show where the host actually disappears. A quirky heroine, smart-ass dialogue, handsome responding cop. Unfortunately the heroine falls apart about midway through the story into helpless running away while the hero goes over the top for flawless, military Superman. The ending's not bad though - a return to comedy involving unconscious shouting and feeding alligators.
Oh, I wasnt sure I wanted to include this on my read list... especially since I share this profile with my mother! But, I did enjoy this beach read...t'was an interesting storyline and easy to fall into/be taken away, imaginatively...
