The Book of Genesis (transliterated from Greek γένεσις, meaning "origin") is the first book of the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Old Testament. This is a sweeping and poetic look at the beginning of man's relationship with God.
Tradition credits Moses as the author of Genesis, as well as Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and most of Deuteronomy. Estimates for the initial date of

I was waiting to read the entire Bible before posting it on Goodreads, but given that it's almost New Year's Eve and I'm a few books away from reaching my goal... you understand :p. Also, reading The Bible is a very important part of my daily reading, even if I don't read any other book I will always do my best to read this book, which marks its importance to me <3. Plus, this is a long book which is best to read slowly so we can learn more from it and get to know more about God through it (s ...more

5 stars but I wasn’t feeling this novella. However it did inspire a lot of my favorite authors in the creation of their fiction. So bravo for that. Saw a lot of things Moses could have done better in this likely first or second draft (chiseled into stone tablets?)

I did enjoy how people lived over 900 years and pretended not to laugh at God when God caught them and then God said, “But I heard you laugh, Sarah.” That was funny. So was the hairy brother and the smooth skinned brother, and how the

The Book of Genesis is probably one of the most influential books ever written, for reasons good and bad and beyond.

The book of Genesis is the first of the jewish Torah and the christian Bible. Many people look to the Bible, specifically Genesis, for answers to life’s tough questions like, “what is the origin of life?,” or, “Why do humans speak different languages?” While Genesis does provide answers, they do not seem to have any basis in the reality humans experience today. Rather than being inspired by a god, they seem more like an attempt to explain a confusing world by a scared people. It seems like it wa ...more

I’m currently reading the Bible through the Read Scripture app. I’ve read Genesis multiple times before but through the videos of supplementary content in the app this is probably the deepest understanding I’ve taken from this book so far. If anyone wants to start reading the Bible, Genesis can be a great place to begin. My Everyday Bible is another app (audio reading and devotion) that takes you through the Word of God. I would recommend Genesis to those curious enough to give the Bible a try o ...more

The Book of Genesis cycles through life, death, and rebirth many times more than the most well-known sagas of Adam and Eve and their children Cain and Abel. What later generations of mankind receive and exchange that the progenitors did not is forgiveness, most prominent in the stories of Noah, Jacob, and Joseph. In every instance, forgiveness brought the injured and repentant parties closer together than before, with or without the formal recognition of a covenant between God and man or brother ...more

Great read.
Creation of man, fall of man, destruction of most living things, Abraham and his faithfulness, Isaac and his life, Jacob (Israel) and the tribe heads of Israel, Joseph and Egypt.

Sin entered the world and God’s plan for salvation foretold and his work in the lives of those who followed and trusted in him.

This book of genesis tells about the origin of the beginning of the world. And why we have sin in the first place. It describes the 7 days that God gave us and on the sabbath we relax. We all thank the Lord for giving us life and for him coming back to save us. Who ever wrote this part of the book told us why we have sin in this world and I think that is good and useful information.

In the beginning God spoke the world into being. This is one of my favourite books of the Bible. Exciting stuff, betrayal, murder, jealousy, trickery and love but through it all God's will always comes to pass.

Bless the name of Jesus!
