Twenty Questions for the Writer is sort of an all-encompassing tutorial for the writing process, with chapters branching off into many different areas of writing—prewriting, thinking before writing, outlining, paragraphing, building research topics, elaborating on specific issues or topics, organizing, developing longer sentences, editing. Critical reading is also a strong model for understanding writing, so Twenty Questions offers reading pieces from many well-respected and influential authors as a way of showing the writer how to develop their skills.

The book is literally a wealth of information in this sense, and what makes it very helpful is that it examines writing from so many angles and forms—essay, paragraph, research paper, story, etc. This is useful because students have different ways to go about writing, and if one approach is not as successful, there are other ways to think about the writing process. As much as this resource is a helpful book about writing, it is also just a great book to help a writer think more critically.
