BARBARA BICKMORE wrote her first short story at seven and has been writing ever since. Her dream to become a published writer came true when EAST OF THE SUN was published in 1988. As her heroines grow they become women who make a difference and don't settle for living life the way society dictates. What I liked:
- I totally wanna go to Africa now!
- The story continues. Courtney is an amazing woman.
- I've learnt so much about Africa's countries and their civil wars by reading this book as well as the first one "East of the Sun".

What I didn't like:
- Lloyd Brackenhurst - but I don't think that was the intention?
- Just a little to much romance for my taste... why do every single one of them have to find their soulmate and never have mediocre sex?
- Poachers!
- It is very unlikely that all of these very influential people would all end up at the same place in the middle of nowhere in Africa...?

Barbara Bickmore is one of my favorite authors, I like her strong women characters and her storys are a joy to read. I would love to see a new book from her.... ive read them all, some a couple of times.

This was a continuation of the book, East of the Sun, with Courtney continuing her career and helping others in need medically. It was interesting and fun to read trying to understand the conflict in Rhodesia.

I felt the story was just to the apex (270-293 the end) when all the lead off was stopped abruptly in its tracks with the murder of Josh, then the defensive murder of Brakenhurst. Then a character pops in after barely meeting him (a 3 day love affair), Quentin from Seattle.

Det ser ud til at jeg har lidt svært ved at blive fanget af Barbara Bickmores bøger lige fra starten ..jeg skal blive ved med at læse for at begynde med at synes om bogen ..men ja jeg kunne godt lide den bog ..igen skriver hun om et helt nyt og fremmed land jeg ikke ved noget om ..mozambique og zimbabwe..og jeg borgerkrib jeg ikke har hørt noget om ..
Jeg synes alleligevel at tingene gik alt for hurtigt til sidst ..det gik meget langsomt gennem bogen ..der skete ikke det store ..men så de sidste kapitler ..bom bom bom ..
jeg havde regnet ud at Brackenhurst stod bag ved det hele ..men Josh død og hans ..det var ikke til at tro ..det var som om hun ikke rigtigt vidste hvordan hun ville gå ud af problemet hvis courtney skulle stå foran de tog mænd og vælge mellem Josh eller coop..det var det jeg ville se ..men efter joshs død..kommer coop tilbage og han ved intet og de kommer sammen og så enkelt blev det løst..

WEST OF THE MOON, Barbara Bickmore, ZIMBABWE, Mozambique, the Civil War in Mozambique.

During the Civil War in Mozambique displaced persons by the thousands sought refuge in Zimbabwe. The situation was dire: many had been physically brutalized, were suffering from malnutrition, hunger, malaria and other maladies, were horribly injured after stepping on land mines. Dr. Courtney's field hospital treated the migrants. Major issues in Africa are discussed: the poaching of elephants brutally murdered for their ivory, the debilitating effects of malaria, female circumcision more graphically discussed than I have ever read, poverty, sex before marriage, etc.

I asked the library to order this book, because I so loved the book, "East of the Sun," when I read it over 20 years ago, and only recently found that it was back in print so that I could read it again. Then I discovered this sequel, which was almost as endearing.
Barbara Bickmore's heroines and even her male characters have an inspiring drive to make a difference in other people's lives.
One also learns some history of the African continent in both of these novels.
An extremely enthralling, satisfying read!
