William Wordsworth (1770-1850) was one of the great English poets and a leader of the romantic movement, becoming Poet Laureate in 1842. His poetry was deeply influenced by his love of nature, especially by the landscape of the Lake District, where he spent most of his mature life.
Patricia Machin has selected nineteen of his poems, including "I wandered Lonely as a Cloud", "Ode - Intimations of Immortality", "She was a Phantom", and many more, interpreting them with her beautiful paintings. Each poem is introduced with useful information and background notes.
Patricia Machin, a painter, illustrator, and designer, has always found poetry to be very closely related to the visual arts and an equal source of inspiration and enjoyment. She studied at Goldsmiths College and, while still a student, exhibited at the Royal Academy. In 1981 she compiled and illustrated "Favourite Hymns", published by Collins. She specialises in landscape and flowers, painting in oils, and collects and grows her own roses for that purpose at her Staffordshire home, where she lives with her husband, Arnold Machin, RA, the well-known sculptor.
3.5⭐️ A lovely, tiny book filled with beautiful illustrations and a collection of Wordsworth’s heartfelt nature poetry. Sadly, the type is so small that it was very hard to read, but I did enjoy this little sampler of his works. My favorite poem included is, ‘The Green Linnet”.
