Can We Talk? (Bible Study Book): Soul-Stirring Conversations with God

Rate this book
Can We Talk? Soul-stirring Conversations with God - Member Book by Priscilla Shirer provides a personal study experience for this women's Bible study that delivers familiar spiritual disciplines through a fresh, new method of teaching. The Member Book includes an introduction, followed by 6 weeks of study, 5 days a week. As women respond to a variety of biblical passages, prompted by thought-provoking questions, they’ll develop a Christ-focused view on important issues and experience a closer walk with their Creator. (7 sessions) 4 Step Approach ―Pore & Paraphrase; Pull Out; Pose; and Plan & Pin―provide a way to thoroughly examine each Scripture passage. This method allows the reader to find the key principles in each Scripture and then relate them to a broad topic, while using the passage to reflect on her own walk with the Father.

Priscilla Shirer is a wife and a mom first. But put a Bible in her hand and a message in her heart and you’ll see why thousands flock to her conferences and dive into her Bible study series’ and books each year.

A graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary, Priscilla holds a Master’s degree in Biblical Studies and considers it a privilege to serve believers from every denomination and culture by helping them to know the truths of Scripture intellectually and encouraging them to experience these truths practically by the power of the Holy Spirit.

In addition to Priscilla’s participation in many church and para-church conferences across the globe each year, Going Beyond Ministries hosts AWAKEN – an outreach event in their hometown designed to encourage and mobilize women locally. This free gathering brings together thousands of women from different denominations and backgrounds several times a year in an effort to stir revival.

Going Beyond Ministries also equips believers through books and Bible study resources. Priscilla has authored over a dozen video driven studies for women and teens on a myriad of Biblical characters and topics including Jonah, Gideon, the Exodus, discerning God’s voice, The Armor of God.

Her books include Discerning the Voice of God, God is Able, and two New York Times Bestsellers – The Resolution for Women and Fervent: A Woman’s Battle Plan for Serious, Specific and Strategic Prayer, which was named the 2016 Christian Book of the Year. Her latest offering is a 365-day devotional called Awaken: 90 Days with the God Who Speaks. In 2016, Priscilla ventured into the world of children’s publishing with The Prince Warriors, a fiction 4-book series and accompanying 365-day devotional (Unseen) designed to equip tween boys and girls for victory in spiritual warfare.

Priscilla has been married to Jerry for 20 years. Between studying and writing, she spends most of her time cleaning up after (and trying to satisfy the appetites of) their three growing boys – Jackson, Jerry Jr. and Jude.

It's rare that I finish a Bible Study. This is not one that I have finished...yet. I doubt I'll get through two weeks' of study in two days; after a two-week vacation, does anyone go back to what they were reading before they left? I didn't think so.
I thought it was well-organized and covers all the basics but also offers in-depth study when you're ready. The problem is that I'm in-between. I have covered all the basics; all the topics she hit upon have already been through my consciousness in a previous study. I'm not in a point in life where I want to delve deeper (not enough time or energy or desire; I need to nurse my wounds and regain ground before stampeding another mountain).
I enjoyed the video clips each week. She's easy to understand and has a nice voice and gets the point across with a well-told story. Nothing about her wardrobe or hair are distracting--seriously, this is an issue with Bible Studies that have accompanying videos. There is one woman I love to listen to but am distracted by her clothes and big hair. :) It's a fun distraction, but a distraction none-the-less. But it's who she is so I'm not criticizing...just commenting.
Anyway, I am glad I took part in the study, even though I missed last week and will miss next week of the get-togethers.
Maybe in another season of life I will be able to dive into the conversations with God that she encourages.

I marked it as "read" because Goodreads wouldn't let me unmark it as "currently reading." I'm not reading it, I probably won't ever finish it...that's just life. oh well, the bit I did read was helpful.

If you ever have done an inductive Bible Study - this one is similar to a concept of one. Not that you would have to underline, do a word study, etc. (you could, but that's not required), but you will meditate on Scriptures given by Ms. Shirer, paraphrase, pull out meanings, pose a question and pin a solution of action on your behalf. It's a great Study that will not give you answers that you are used to hearing from other Christian Bible Study authors, but directly through the Holy Spirit's guidance.

I highly recommend this convicting un-bible study and give it a 5.

I liked Priscilla's One in a Million study much better than this one. Perhaps that was due in part that I missed the introduction and early weeks of this study b/c of a trip to SA, so that through me off and I got behind right away. I found the layout of the study difficult. Too bad. I just love it when I can really get into a good Bible study. I pray that next time will be better.

I took my time with this book and let the lessons sink in. Lots of self-reflection. Great guide for bible study. I did not have the video, but found the study encouraging and meaningful.
