A charming, rhyming picture book about a little girl and a band of bad cats who stow away on her small boat and wreak havoc on the voyage! There once were seven very BAD cats… Seven cats anywhere are probably too many. Seven BAD cats, all in one boat, is asking for trouble... When a band of very bad cats stow away on a little girl's boat she knows she's in for a bumpy ride. But when they take their antics too far they just might ruin her whole trip!
“Today I put on my boots and my coat, and seven bad cats jumped into my boat.” This is a terrific little rhyming book that counts up to seven and then back down to one with the help of some stowaway cats and their antics. (They come in colors that cats don’t normally come in, but that’s okay with me.) To start with they are incorrigibly lazy and mischievous, but when disaster is at hand they band together to help the little girl get back to shore safely. If only cats were so helpful in real life! Great to read aloud to any small child, whether or not you have cats as pets.
Imaginative story that may appeal to 3-6 year olds. But the font is unattractive and while I generally like watercolor as an art medium, in this book, the cats don’t much look like cats except that they have the right number of legs, two pointed ears, whiskers and a tail. I’m not sure that the cover is going to grab the attention of young children, but might if they are looking for a book with cats and/or boats. (Review of digital ARC from Edelweiss Plus)
More cats=more mischief. This is the story of a sailor child who goes boating with a group of naughty cats who capsize the boast, but then work to make everything right again. Lots of colors and an unusual fantasy tale.
Veg*n parents note: One of the cats raids the child's crab traps and eats its contents. The cats collect clams, which they and the child then boil on the beach.
This new picture book is an adorable, imaginative look at one little sailor’s adventure at sea with seven bad cats. If you like cats, you’ll love this book. If you don’t love cats, you will still enjoy this book. The illustrations are cozy, kooky and fun, and those bad cats redeem themselves in the most unusual way!
The art is nice, and I enjoyed counting the colorful cats on each page. But why, oh, why would anyone get into a rowboat with seven cats in the first place...especially someone who doesn't know how to swim?! I think this is one of those books by an author/illustrator where whose stronger suit is the art. In fact, this might have been a better story without any text at all.
The rhyming verse and adorable illustrations make this a fantastic read-along for everyone. Short, snappy sentences keep your interest and silly antics of the cats keep you smiling. Highly recommended for even non-cat lovers.
Cute. Great rhyming text throughout the book with. The cadence is fantastic. I would love to read this to my storytime groups. Cats counting rhyming boats sailing
This funny little picture book is an adventure story about a girl, a boat, and seven bad cats. It would make an excellent math lesson for quantities of seven.
A brilliant rhyming picture book with lovely watercolour illustrations and a whole host of naughty cats that sneak aboard a young girl's boat and cause kitty-havoc!
I adore the illustrations, and the story is cute. But the choppy meter and forced rhymes bring it down a notch for me. Still, the illustrations alone make this book worth a look.
I loved “Seven Bad Cats.” The rhymes were wonderful and I loved the illustrations. This story shows that there are bad choices and good choices, in a cute way.
