My nephew is crazy over the gingerbread man and asks for this one all the time. I enjoy seeing the other animals. I'm crazy over giraffes and the giraffes almost eats the gingerbread man. Fun story and art. Cute.

Normally, when a book is the fourth of its kind in a sequel, you aren't sure what you'll find. But in the case of The Gingerbread Man Loose at the Zoo, a true gem is found in what I believe is the best of the series yet! There is so much to love here. With so many young students studying animals as part of their science curriculum and making field trips to the zoo, this text scores high for relatability and core content. And let's face it, interest in animals begins at a very early age for most kids. The flawless rhyming text and the riddles provide prediction clues and exciting page turns that will foster higher levels of engagement. What a challenge it can be to write an engaging story arc and also make a game out of it for children! Author Laura Murray showcases the best of her writing and Mike Lowery's incorporation of comic book panels transform the illustration into something new, action-packed, and suspenseful.

This funny tale follows the gingerbread man on his school field trip to the zoo. He gets separated from his classmates and the zoo animals just can't help themselves --- they want to try a bite! Gingerbread is lost but he soon finds someone who needs his help finding her way too. This book is told using bold, comic book style illustrations.

Dating back thousands of years, most tellers use riddles to welcome listeners into their stories. These specifically-worded queries get our brains in gear, focus our concentration and inspire creativity. Riddles allow us to participate in a treasure hunt without taking a step. All we need to do is use our imaginations, expanding our thinking from the obvious to the obscure. The sense of accomplishment in deciphering these puzzles is a rich reward too.

Readers are guaranteed another adventure full of fun and one smart cookie on the run in The Gingerbread Man Loose at the Zoo (G. P. Putnam's Sons, an imprint of Penguin Random House, LLC, August 23, 2016) written by Laura Murray with illustrations by Mike Lowery. There is sleuthing and solving. May they do themselves proud. It's game on for the Gingerbread Man and the elementary school crowd.

Is there a genre called "Gingerbread Man books"? There should be. There are so many of them. And there's a good reason for that...kids love gingerbread man books. And teachers love gingerbread man books. I have forty-three gingerbread books in my school library. Is that enough? No, we always need more and this one's a great new addition to the genre. Here, the gingerbread man explores the zoo with clues. Along the way, a few animals try to nibble on him, but, oh no, they can't get him...he's the gingerbread man. Yes, I'm happy to add this book as my forty-fourth gingerbread man book in my school library....I predict this one won't stay on my shelf this year.

The class enjoys a scavenger hunt to locate animals at the zoo. The Gingerbread Man gets scooped up by the giraffe and almost eaten. He solves the rest of the riddles to find his class. Along the way, he meets a lost kangaroo and helps the joey find her mom. Rhymes are fun and the kids will love guessing the animals too.

In this high energy picture book in The Gingerbread Man is Loose series, the class is taking a field trip to the zoo. The teacher has given the class a scavenger hunt of animal riddles. Everyone is having fun following the clues, but the Gingerbread Man is having to deal with the animals wanting to eat him. The lively rhyming text that includes riddles and the colorful illustrations that vary from cartoon panels to large double-page spreads make this a fun book to share.

Boy did we love this one! The rhymes were great, the flow was spot-on, and the character of the Gingerbread Man was lovable and silly. We read this one for 4 nights in a row, it continued to be requested. This was another one of Grayson's school library selections and I think he really hit it out of the park. What can I say, the boy has great taste in books!

My 7 year old really enjoyed reading this to me. She liked seeing all the animals and guessing at the riddles. It is a good book for early elementary kids. We'll probably check out the other books in the series.

This book is really exciting and entertaining for young students. Each page has a lot of illustrations and a lot of different events going on which in my opinion is a great attention grabber for young students. This book also has riddles that students can solve while they are reading.

Good problem solving book. Using your knowledge to get out of certain situations. Also, acceptance because the class loved their special classmate the gingerbread man.

I very rarely love rhyming children's books. This was no exception. This book is a 2018-2019 Young Hoosier Book Award selection.
