I loved this beautiful story! Spiritborne, book one of the Spirits' War Trilogy, blends Celtic mysticism, shamanism, and romance in an epic tale of survival. Skye's shape shifting experiences are touched with comedy as she and her companions battle for their lives against the Covenant. A must read!

*A detailed review coming soon

Skye is a typical eighteen-year-old girl, except that she experiences blackouts, both her parents died in an accident and she was raised by her uncle David and aunt Margo. But the truth they always hid from her is about to be revealed. Her life is about to change and she must adapt. After learning about what she really is, she must fight for her survival alongside with people like her. It becomes a matter of life or death. Slowly it becomes obvious that this is not simply the case of good versus evil. Both parts have white and dark shades. The mythology is very intriguing and unique. The story is packed with emotion and action, and it is beautifully written. Characters are complex. The main character is not perfect, but she is likeable, and it is awesome to 'witness' her character development. Even 'not so good' characters drew me in, and I really wanted to know about their backgrounds and understand them. There is drama, battle, sacrifice, humour, loss, hope, outstanding world building. The romance is also masterfully done. The blooming romance develops slowly, which is not a very easy thing to do. I don't usually read books about vampires and werewolves, because they all seem to be similar. This one, however, is very, very different. Completely different from every shapeshifting story I've ever read (I read a lot!), and I couldn't read this book fast enough.

Stunning imagery, thought-provoking and a beautiful take on shapeshifters.

The celtic mythology paired with the world of nature had me gripped. Miss Wilson weaves a gorgeous world and I loved every character. It's a story I will never forget and I'm so excited for the next in the trilogy.

If you love wolves, shapeshifters and a story filled with unforgettable characters and myth, you'll want to read this.

What if the life that you thought was real was an illusion? What if you learned that the stories you read about shapeshifters and guardians of the earth were real - and what if that was now your reality? This is precisely the scenario faced by Skye. Her relationship with her father was challenging even before she learned she learned the truth. Now, it is strained even further as she struggles with the notion that she just may have to save the world.

K.V Wilson's characters are wonderfully flawed and beautifully written. Do not be surprised if you find yourself cheering on a character that you previously despised. The mythologies have been diligently researched and Wilson's passion for the subject matter is evident as she delivers a richly layered tale that is a treat for lovers of fantasy.

This is book 1 in the epic Spirits' War saga. I found it easy to lose myself in this world.

Shapeshifters and Werewolves Against the Inquisition
Man v Nature. The Covenant v Werewolves (Lycans) and Shapeshifters (Yeva’si). Skye Matthews experiences blackouts. They’re the beginning of a new phase of her life, a secret and dangerous phase. It takes her through her local urban landscape through secret portals to the world of Lycans and shapeshifters. In her everyday world, the Covenant reigns and wages war against everything not quite human. A tale of growing into a foreordained fate, Wilson puts emphasis on the obstacles a young woman must face. It doesn’t help that nobody has revealed this inheritance to her. It’s an interesting fact that there are parallels to the Spanish inquisition in the Covenant’s attitude to everything ‘heretic’.

Spiritborne is a fantasy that will delight all ages. Skye has an ability she has known nothing about as she's grown up, until changes begin to happen to her. This is a story of a girl who is thrown into a life she had no knowledge of and how she not only copes, but becomes a hero. Doing what is right and overcoming fear leads her to take up challenges others won't attempt. War rages against a faction of people who won't accept difference. Skye isn't a grownup, she's on the cusp of adulthood. She has moments of weakness which only expounds what it takes for her to toss her doubts aside to fight.

The other characters add the strength behind the world of werewolves and other fay characters. None that are silly or childish. This world is realistic in every way it could be. I highly recommend the read. Go to Amazon and check out the chapters available and you will see that the book is every bit as entertaining as the classics that have lived for decades.

Spiritborne follows the coming of age of Skye Matthews. After learning of the lycan roots her family has hidden from her for most of her life, she's thrust into the midst of the fight for survival. She must join with other lycans and shapeshifters--the Yeva'si--to save her people from a misguided group of humans called the Covenant.

There is so much to love about this book. Skye's growth from the start to the finish is excellent. She is faced with huge responsibilities and decisions and comes into her role beautifully. The supporting characters are vivid and memorable. My favorite was Sejka. Finally, her mythology is interesting and unique. I look forward to the following books!

Not your average werewolf story

I thoroughly enjoyed this well-crafted tale. The characters are convincing and the plot leads the reader on an absorbing journey through city and countryside. The descriptions of the natural world are stunning and it's obvious that the author has a strong connection with nature. I am looking forward to reading more in this series.

This was a fantastic read! I love books that keep me on the edge of my seat and turning pages, and this book definitely accomplished that. Not only was it fast-paced, but it had beautiful world building and characters you can't help but root for. I can't wait to find out what the author has in store for the rest of the series.

One of the best books I've ever read. Nothing like the cliche wolf stories that you read. It's alot better than the other books of this category/genre. First book that i once read on internet and gotta say this is the book that inspired me to write a book too.

Skye discovers that she is a Lycan shapeshifter and suddenly her world is turned upside down. She has to learn about her new clan whilst dealing with the lies she was told since childhood.
But now she finally knows who she is, she suddenly finds that there are those who would seek to destroy her and all her kind.
What is her place in this world, and can she find a way to end the conflict and stop a war that has been waged for centuries?

This book is so well written. Full of beautiful descriptions and real characters that prove that the world is not as simple as pure good and pure evil. You will be completely swept up in the mythic lore and exciting pace set by the author.
Skye is a wonderful protagonist and whether you are a fan of YA or Adult fantasy you will enjoy this series.
It is the perfect book to disappear into, definitely worth a read, and it may just become your new series obsession!

This is a great book about a girl, Skye Matthews, learning who she really is—a Lycan—and becoming more after her mother is kidnapped. There's tons of action and emotion packed into the book. The conflict between different kinds of people—in this case, humans vs Lycans and shapeshiters—in my opinion, is highlighted, showing that there are no real winners when hatred is held between them. There are losers on all side.

Anyway, I highly recommend this. It's a fun, emotional, and fast paced read that holds a great lesson.

This book was beautifully written, and the descriptions used throughout were bewitching. I love Lycan tales but have struggled to find ones that live up to the stories that first inspired that fondness in the first place. This book didn't disappoint, it not only had the beautiful wolf creatures within its pages, it also brought new elements and I very much look forward to reading the rest of the narrative unfold when the next book comes out.

This book was a powerful, thrilling addition to the young adult fantasy genre. Wilson does an amazing job of starting with the action and the complex and interesting main character Skye is immediately thrown into a rich world populated with Lycans, shapeshifters, and an evil Covenant. But even with all the action, Wilson understands how to write the soft, tender moments that really make stories shine. The relationships between the characters are incredibly developed, especially Skye and Thirteen's relationship, which had exactly the right pacing. This is a book that you will truly find impossible to put down.

First, I received a free copy of the book for review. I also want to mention that I rated this book based on how much I liked the story and not on the technicalities of the book.

I like the world building of the book, and I think the author is quite creative and imaginative with the fictional creatures, beings, and settings. The story also progressed at a good pace, and it was quite interesting how conflicts were portrayed. I won't say too much about the characters as to spoil the story, but they each have their own story and development.

Ultimately, if you like high fantasy, then you can feel free to give this book a try. It's a new and unique read.

Spiritborne is an insightful novel with a realistic narrative and a steady pace of urgency, action, and character development. This tale of Lycan mythology covers a great underlying battle of not only good vs evil, but also man vs nature. The main character, Skye, has a likeable evolution that makes her easy to cheer for. Overall, a great read... looking forward to the continuation of the series!

I was introduced to this novel on a free platform and loved it so much, I purchased a copy from Amazon. K.V. Wilson keeps the reader hooked from the very beginning, both with conflict and heartbreak, and I would recommend it to readers across genres.

I thought I'd posted this but it seems I haven't so I'm posting it again.

I see this trilogy as the next big thing. Move aside Harry Potter. The imagery in these books is truly amazing. K.V. Wilson's imagination has no bounds. You'll be taken from the forests of Canada to a pub in the heart of London then in book 3 to South America and the depths of the past. If you love lycans, dragons, shape shifters and a wee bit of Welsh you won't be able to get enough of these characters as they fight to keep their kind alive and free. This book has everything. Love. Hate. And a war like no other.

A great YA urban fantasy with healthy doses of action sprinkled with humor, mystery/intrigue, and romance. The descriptions of the wilds are beautifully rendered where you feel you are in Canada or England. Although Skye herself got on my nerves every now and then, the characters are endearing and realistic--you understand their goals and root them on.
