Rate this book
No talking, stay out of the shadows, don’t go out at night, survive… Fin Vee is the chief hangman's daughter at the Church of Hangmen. Everyone has high hopes for her to continue the witch ritual that keeps the Berkano vampires away. When she steps on stage to sacrifice the little girl with the dazzling blue eyes, and doesn’t, the Berkano come fast and furious to demand their sacrifice. The only safe place is within the walls of the Church, but the Church casts Fin out, leaving her only with the annoyingly silent Hendry to guide her. The Berkano only speak telepathically, so speaking out loud in the city’s streets is a death sentence. But as Fin discovers the truth about her beloved city and her Church, she finds she has a lot to say. And so do her new a band of cowboy witches intent on overthrowing the Berkano, whatever the risk may be. Even if that risk is death. BLOOD SONG is a standalone contribution to the Fallen Sorcery Berkano Vampire collection. Stories can be read in any order. To learn more, visit FallenSorcery.com

A thrilling contribution to the Berkano Vampires collection with horror elements and lots of surprise.
Fin is supposed to follow in her father's footsteps and be the next Church's hangman. But on her big day, she is supposed to hang a child, and she refuses. The consequences throw her out of the protective walls on the streets where bloodlusting monsters are waiting, and the Silence Collector are hunting the unaware or not cautious enough. Forced to rely only on Hendry who never spoke to her before, Fin ends in a totally unexpected place with a collar around her neck that counts down hours to her death. Desperately trying to find a way to save her life (and others), Fin together with Hendry uncover the net of lies and true motives behind many deaths, and undertake every step possible to set things right for once...
The world flooded with vampires driven mad by their thirst, silence collectors killing to create a desperate spell, and a church led by wicked witch hanging one of their members every month, that is a chilling dystopian and supernatural world I wouldn't have wanted to spend a day in. Blood sacrifices, death traps at every corner, killing sprees in more ways, that comes close to a horror. Yet, the world is intriguing, magical, and definitely worth fighting for. The concept of the Rift Curse turns out to be the mutual concern that brings all the supernaturals together, and Fin's obviously not very useful magic proves worth a shot in the end.
I liked the development of the romance between our main protagonists. Hendry's surface lies a lot, and he proves himself with every page - so if you are a female reader, beware your heart, because it might be stolen. Having such a man at my side would be a precious advantage.
I had mixed feelings about Fin at the beginning, like okay, she has the morals and principles, but what then? She was so obviously unsuitable to survive outside the church that I really feared her transformation would be unrealistic. Fortunately, she adjusted nicely, although a bit out of the sudden still. But I liked her character. And cried for Lucy (almost).
Suspenseful and dark, this is a story for fans of paranormal and mild horror, a fast read and enjoyable book.

Blood Song is part horror and part paranormal romance full of witches, humans, and vampires. Hangings and blood sacrifices are supposed to be for the good of the church. But when Fin refuses to hang a child, her exile from the church leads her and Hendry to a lot of secrets and untruths. As Fin falls for Hendry, they battle to stay alive and began a revolution to reveal the truth. The beginning starts with a bang then the story slows a little before speeding by for an exciting and satisfying ending. An interesting story line and memorable characters turn this novel into an enjoyable standalone story with an HEA that will leave you curious about the other stories in the collection. My voluntary and unbiased review is based upon a review copy.

An exciting standalone story which contains a nice mixture of human, witch and vampire characters .
I really enjoyed reading it, there was a perfect balance of action, horror, intrigue and romance within it . The main character, Fin Vee is a strong female lead who goes against the rules of the church by refusing to sacrifice a little girl by hanging . She gets exiled from the church and there are lots of perils outside its walls .
She and a male called Hendry stay together to stay alive and plan a revolution but things are not as they seem and she discovers her and the community have been lied to !
I requested a review copy from the author in exchange for an honest review .

I received Blood Song as a review copy from the author/publisher (via BookFunnel). The gifting did not determine the review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion.

There was more of a blood-thirsty/horror aspect than I usually find in a Loucks novel, but there was also a more complex plot to balance the dark aspects. What an awesome storyline- I loved how the characters came together to solve the conflict. I had a few disconnects with the characters, especially Fin, but by the half-way mark, I was anxious to find out what would happen between the factions. I wish there had been more character development of the vampires (as the title revolves around them).

I really liked this story. It was full of witches, humans, vampires, horror and crazy people all mixed together to deliver a great story. Once I read the blurb I was hooked and had to see what would happen. The story starts out slow as we follow Fin along her adventure into the real world as she ends up discovering what is really going on. I have to say there were a few twists that made me go what??? I did like the twist at the end. Just a well written book that grabbed my attention and held it until the end. I was not disappointing in the least. A great story that was a little dark but not nasty or frightening. And relatively clean considering it is about vampires. I loved it.

I really enjoyed this novel. The concept was intriguing and the heroine was someone I could relate to! Fin is trying walk in her father's footsteps without realizing what all it entails. When the truth comes out she is afraid but willing to brave all as she and Hendrey work together to release everyone from the prison they are unknowingly locked into. I hope a second novel is in the works!!
