The God Whistle A night Mary can not remember changed her life forever. Her church casts her out. Friends disown her. She is locked out of her home and her husband plans to divorce her. Her guilt is overwhelming. No one will forgive her.
Desperate to save her marriage, Mary turns to God, someone she only superficially believes in. She pleads with Him. She tries to bargain with Him. She prays for forgiveness and restoration. But nothing is what it appears to be.
Seeing how the decisions in her past have shaped her life, Mary struggles to know what God wants of her now. If she can find out, will He return her family to her? Will He give back the life she had before the night her world fell apart?
“The God Whistle” is a story of faith, love, and forgiveness. It’s an emotional ride from beginning to end with surprises that will keep you riveted page after page.
With a narrative that is, by turns, emotional, mystical, warm, and dramatic, The God Whistle slowly draws the reader into its spiritual themes.
Mary is a busy young wife and mother whose comfortable life is shattered by one guilty and costly mistake. As she navigates her brokenness, she is led into a relationship with God with the help of a mysterious old man.
This story is rich in imagery and evocative storytelling and is sure to leave the reader meditating on its lessons long after finishing the last page.
I didn't know what to expect from this book and was thoroughly engrossed from the first few pages of the book. The author certainly doesn't shy away from the hard topics. At first, I have to admit, I was angry at the main character...ever so judgmental of me, I must say... just like others in the story. I finished it in one long night, because I just had to know how it ended. It was worth it.
I finished reading The God Whistle in record time for me. The author did a wonderful job with a heart-wrenching story, which could have ended multiple ways. I loved the unexpected twists and turns, and the focus on God throughout.
This book is not in any of my usual reading genres, but I decided to read it anyway because I follow the author, Ralph Nelson Willett, on Twitter (@northerovation) and enjoy and often steal the Dad jokes he posts there. It turns out he is not just a great punster, but he can spin a tale into an engaging and edifying novel as well. He creates some fascinating mysteries that keep you reading along, such as a strange train whistle, an old blind guy who seems to know more than he should, and the question of whether the protagonist, Mary, will reconcile with her husband. It all gets resolved in a surprising and intriguing ending. The book is worth the read, and I will likely check out some of his other works.
This is not the type of book that I would normally enjoy reading. It is about a couple being torn about by a situation wife found herself in. That's sort of melodramatic family trauma it's not something I would normally read and enjoy. But the old man at the nursing home truly made the story. I had a pretty good idea of what was going on and what the ending would be. But the developing Christian values were very good. So I was pleased to be surprised buy this book.
Not in my normal genre, I’m glad I read this book.
The story line kept me turning the pages to see what happens to Mary and Adam’s marriage. The characters were well developed. There were elements of real life, loss, faith, hope, and human strength. The interaction between the main character, Mary, and an old man named Allie was especially tender.
At about the 2/3 point in the book, an unexpected plot twist occurs. It warmed my heart and kept me reading to the end.
I could see myself reading The God Whistle again if I’m feeling down and need a boost of faith.
A wedding, too much to drink, too much dancing with someone that was not her husband. He stayed at home because one of the children was sick. Friends tried to warn her , and she is now paying the price. With today’s technology, someone video and sent it to her husband. The story is full of emotion, heart break, can there be forgiveness, and healing. To look and one’s own value and what God wants for you and the family. Well done.
I must say, this was a new author for me and so I was a bit sceptical about getting this one at first. But now I am beyond thrilled that I did! What an amazing, intriguing story that kept me curious and took me through a myriad of emotions. The history behind the whistle had me laughing and warmed my heart. And the it just reminded me of how God is always there working things out for good. It makes me think of Isaiah 61:1-3
I mostly enjoyed this story. There were a few awkward parts. Like a pothole in the road that jars, but doesn’t throw you off course. The writing is pretty good. The two biggest areas for improvement are (1) lack of consistent deep POV and (2) too much repetition of certain phrases, words and behaviors (specifically here, a character trying to say something but not being able to). Overall though, a pleasant read that is honoring to the Lord.
Entertaining with characters that are relatable, and who draw you into their lives. Flawed, like anybody, and in need to work out the vulnerabilities of life. Mistakes, weakness, faith that is broken, but with love the mysterious road to forgiveness and being reconciled takes the reader on a journey designed to show the merits in a strong Christian worldview.
The plot is good and I understood the main theme or what the writer wanted to portray to the reader However,it got lost in the "whistle" as this wasn't tied to a real life situation As a Christian I understand God's calling, but the mix of Ari and the whistle was confusing
I didn’t know what to expect when I started reading this book. I found it to be a wonderfully uplifting story about dreams, love, marriage and trust. It took some twists that I wondered about and, in the end pulled together multiple lessons in trust, long suffering and forgiveness.
This is such a captivating story. I had a hard time putting it down and finished it the same day I started. It had me guessing from the start. Three cheers to Ralph Nelson Willett!
Loved the book! I was grabbed from the beginning! Outstanding realism permeates the whole book! God Whistle definitely speaks to each reader! I am so glad that I read the book! Loved Allie and all the characters! Very enjoyable read!!
This is a quick but moving book. It tells the story of a couple that must surmount a personal betrayal. The road they must travel brings them closer to God with the help of church and angels they are not aware of.
Wonderful book. I know how her husband felt, but you have to let go of it will consume you. This book teaches you that you can let go with the help of God. I have learned that. It was not easy. I'm glad to see a book written in this subject and to show there is a way out. My thanks to the author.
