Ten little witches have an adventure one Halloween night in this cute seasonal counting book. When one witch on a long speedy broom picks up another from a graveyard, it begins a process whereby more and more witches join the flying fun. Eventually, with nine witches on the broom, the party crash lands, meeting a tenth witch who takes them trick-or-treating...
Pairing a simple text in rhyme from author Carole Gerber with cute, colorful artwork from illustrator Michael Fleming, 10 Busy Brooms would make an entertaining read-aloud at Halloween time. I initially sought it out because of my interest in witchy picture-books - a perennial pet project of mine - and on that score I found it engaging. I appreciated the decorative endpapers, with their jack-o-lanterns and witches' hats, and I liked the different colors used, for the various different witches. That said, the text itself was sometimes rather awkward, and I don't know that this is one I would seek out again. Still, tastes vary, so I would recommend this one to picture-book readers in the market for fun Halloween fare for the younger set, preschool and below.

Fun counting book for Halloween. Rowan loves the brooms and the kitties most of all. The illustrations are quite cute and it’s a competently rendered little book. Though not having a full moon in the werewolf panel seems a significant oversight. But otherwise this is great.

I read this story during my libraries "fall/halloween" party yesterday and the kiddos LOVED it!!! They loved pointing out the different characters in the background of the illustrations. They also loved counting and guessing what's going to happen next. A great story time read for this time of year (also the werewolf part was everybody's favorite! LOL !!

I read this with my 5-year-old neighbor. Her review: "I like it because I like the brooms." She has a tendency to deem books "too long," so an "I like it" is actually a rare review for her.

There are SO MANY reasons to love this adventure-filled Halloween book!
First, this book meets one of my most basic requirements when purchasing a book: there must be a diverse cast of characters. There is casual representation among these darling witches — and I’m thrilled that the very first witch leading the group on the cover has brown skin AND that there is a range of skin tones represented as well as a witch wearing a headscarf.
Second, I adore how each witch has a different style of hat! It’s a gentle way to have a conversation about differences among these friends, and it was one of the first things my little readers noticed. (And these cool hats are featured on the end papers.)
Third, this is a fun read aloud with playful rhymes: “7 little witches bobbing past a bog/saw a sneaky snake slither near a witch and a frog.”
Fourth, this is a cool counting book with nothing too scary or creepy — just some playful Halloween fun!

Lavishly illustrated counting book with cute little witches rescuing each other from the clutches of skeletons, goblins, ghosts, werewolves and the like. Each added broom rider is saved with an accompanying rhyme. When the extra long broom becomes overloaded, they meet the tenth witch who is quite different, but just as friendly.
While it definitely has a Halloween theme, little ones who like colorful pictures and counting can enjoy it year round.

This was a fun, enjoyable Halloween read! I loved the bright, colorful pictures, and the fun rhyming verse. I also like that it focused on numbers/counting. And all the characters were friendly and supportive - nothing too scary in here first the little ones. A good addition to a little one’s Halloween collection.

The title is catchy for a Halloween story and it is cute that the witches are rescuing each other from other Halloween characters. Overall I didn't like the illustrations. Not the best Halloween story I have read.

A fairly traditional concept book based on a rhymed counting sequence as witches escape monsters. Bright illustrations capture the events in a animated style. The Halloween theme might limit its appeal or use.

One little witch, flying a “long, speedy broom” sees another little witch cleaning a tomb of spider webs. The first witch asks the second to fly with her on the long broom with “lots of room.” Now two witches are riding when they see a third little witch running from a “scrawny skeleton.” She jumps onto the big broom. Now three witches are flying around. They see a ghost scaring a little witch. The three invite her on the big, long broom and now there are four little witches flying around.
This continues until there are nine little witches, a frog, a white tiny kitten, an owl, a pumpkin pie, and some apple brew atop the long broom. The broom is . . .

This is such a cute counting book that's Halloween/witch themed, but don't worry -- it's super happy and bright and fun. My nephew loves it and keeps asking for me to read it again (and again and again)... Beautiful illustrations -- I love how each character is unique and diverse.

Each spread in this counting book features one number, which initiates the text with a large, colorful numeral. The witches appear to be a mix of ages and ethnicities, which is appreciated as a normal part of the book and not a plot point. They are almost always smiling, which makes this a fun and not scary Halloween selection. The digital illustrations are engaging and colorful, although the scenery uses dark colors like black and purple to lend a spooky quality to the book. The rhyming text is well-written, with a gleefully happy tone to it. Even the endpapers feature adorable jack-o-lanterns alternated with ten types of witches’ hats, reinforcing the counting theme and making the book a cohesive whole. Children ages three to seven will enjoy listening to this story as a read aloud or sharing it one-on-one with an adult to get into the holiday spirit.

10 Busy Brooms is a picture book for young children. I rated this book a 4 star. This book is intended for the audience of preschool. 10 Busy Brooms is a book that reinforce numbers in their numeral order.
When I read this book, I evaluated that the elements of this book were all effective. I like that the characters portray witches because in most cases, brooms in literature associate themselves with witches. The illustration of this book consist of bold letters, and bright colors. The sound of the literature is adventurous. I think this book will be appealing to its intended audience because it shows a continuation of learning numbers.

It all starts with one witch on one broom. She encourages others to join her, and one by one, other witches climb aboard her supersized flying device. As various witches settle on the broom, it takes them to different places and finally becomes overloaded, dumping the nine witches near another one. Although she isn't a real witch, merely a girl masquerading as one, she joins them, and they all head off to go trick or treating. The digital illustrations in this counting book add to the book's fun, making it one that will be used for repeated reading. That broom must have been very sturdy.
