This is my review of the Damaged Romance Duet which consists of Dirty and Filthy.
My review of Dirty-
This book was previously published as Saved by Her but was unpublished, rewritten with additional scenes, rebranded and re edited. When I read this got the second time I fell in love all over again with the story and the characters.
Oh wow. Talk about starting the story off with a bang. The first few chapters threw me into the dark life of Jack when he was eight years old. My heart bled for him.
When your life starts out so bad and there's badness all around you can you be saved??
A promise to his mum left him doing things he didn't want to do.
What happens when what you believed in all changed??
I love the heroine in this story. River has fought to leave the past behind her. However is it really holding her back??
Make sure you read the authors warning. Although this book has dark topics we do see a beautiful warming side to the characters. Jack and Rivers story was gritty yet beautiful.
I'm looking forward to reading Filthy which is Adam and Sophia's story.

What a powerful emotional heartbreaking story.....
Two emotionally damage people come together and find solace in each other.
Michelle has you feel every emotions in this story...
..be prepared to cringe, sigh, bite nails, cry and smile..
This novel is graphic and gritty..
But it also emotional and enduring...
Filthy
A quick read, with huge emotional impact.
Sophie, raise as "sex" slave..it is the live she knows
...she knows if she makes her master happy, her live is not in danger..
Then rescued and taken out that live, Sophie learns what is like to be free..
Adam is amazing...
..this story has cringe worthy scenes, heartbreaking scenes

Book 1, Well. What to say. Not your average love story. This is a dark dark story about evil, revenge and second chances. We follow Jack who is a sex slave abused by his father from a young age. His body is sold daily to vile, sick couples and individuals, he has never known love or tenderness, that is until River enters his life. River and her best friend Adam buy and set free sex slaves, River has her own issues and as such she lives a life of celibacy. Both Jack and River learn to trust and help each other as they navigate the beginnings of what could be a beautiful relationship. I absolutely fell in love with Jack, such a wonderful soul, and hot in the mix. A gruelling tale that I loved, I loved the writing, the story and the characters.
Book 2 is Adam and Sophia’s story and it runs parallel with book 1, Dirty. Each book can be read as a standalone and although the background to the stories are the same, they are two very different perspectives. Sophia couldn't be more different to Jack, both slaves, but both brought into the industry in completely different ways. Sophia and Adam’s story centres around Sophia’s inability to be anything other than a sex slave, having never known anything different, she has been abused and belittled all her life. Adam has a difficult time making her believe she is anything but worthless. Adam himself has dealt with some pretty gruesome things, and together they help heal their broken bits. Another emotional read from Michelle Horst that is not for the faint hearted, I love a dark read and these books don't disappoint. What a fabulous duet.

A young Jack makes a promise to his mother that he will always take care of his brother David, then his father comes back and tells him it’s time for him to become a man and sends him to be with the other slaves that he has.
Years later Jack knows he only has a few more years as a slave until David finishes college. He’s only escape is the gardening that Cameron allows him to do without any guards. Cameron approaches Jack with a couple, she seems different and wants him for the night.
River has a sanctuary that she keeps running it with her father’s money that he made from selling slaves. When arriving at the estate and seeing Jack she wants to save him and Adam her head of security, decides to save Sophia.
Jack and River both have demons that they must work though, while they learn that there can be life after all the pain they have been through. River helps a lot of slaves find themselves after freeing them, but Jack seems to have touched a part of her that no one else has been able to after what she went through with her father.
Jack must battle his own demons and deal with his mother's death but can't believe the feelings that he has for River, no woman has ever made him feel that way before. Jack and River battle their pasts while trying to deal with the new emotions they are feeling for each other, while dealing with their past to reach the point of saving themselves.
Filthy
Sophia has always been a slave and was born at the Mansion. She knows no other life than pleasing her Master or Mistress. One night at a party, where they are meant to do anything that a Master or Mistress asks, she ends up in a room with Adam, panic sets in when Adam doesn’t want to have sex with her and she worries that she will be punished.
Adam and River turn up to the party with the intention of buying a slave to take back to the sanctuary and give them their freedom, however they decide to take both Jack and Sophia.
Confused when she is told that she is no longer in charge of the slaves, Sophia is told to see Master David, where she is severely beaten and made to believe that she has reached her expiration date, while being beaten she also sees Jack severely beaten as well.
When Sophia finally wakes she sees Adam and confusion sets in as he tells her there are no more Masters and she is safe, in a world of confusion she doesn’t understand as much as people try to explain, it’s the only life she’s lived.
When Sophia tells him how she feels and how he makes her feel, Adam tells her she can’t and she’s not ready, only after Sophia leaves angry does Adam realise how wrong he was. Sophia goes through so many emotions realising that Adam doesn’t make her feel filthy and that when she finally wants someone they don’t want her back. Adam fight the fact that he thinks he’s not good enough for Sophia and that she’s not ready for a relationship after what she has been through, while Sophia only feels rejection with not being good enough for Adam. The two battle their feelings and emotions before finally realising what they need is to support each other.
Another amazing read and a happily ever after.

Dirty
I understand that this book is a revised/updated/republished version of Saved By Her. I never read the original so am unable to comment about any changes.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and read it in one sitting. It covers dark subject matter that some might find distressing, but the difficult situations are sensitively written.
I had slight reservations that the h&H seemed to get over their respective difficult backgrounds with relative ease, but after moving past that I really enjoyed the book and can't wait for the next one.

This book was previously published and entitled Saved by him. I understand there are new scenes in this version and a new cover, but as I hadn't read the original I can't comment on that aspect.
I really enjoyed the book and read it in one sitting. It is the second book in the series, Dirty being the first, but I preferred this one. It runs along the same timeline as Dirty, but is seen from Sophia/Adam's POVs. I was worried that I'd find the story too repetitive, but although the basic facts are the same as Dirty the duplication is minimal and didn't detract from my enjoyment. I would however, recommend that you read Dirty first.
This book covers difficult topics (possible triggers), but is tastefully done. I enjoyed the character progression, particularly Sophia's thought processes as she attempts to assimilate to her new surroundings and people.

Damaged: The complete set is not my usual genre (dark romance), but the price was right and the premise was so unusual, I had to check it out. I have to say the storyline sucked me in-- while the overall plot is highly improbable, I liked the characters and the empathy I immediately felt for Jack (not so much for Sophia). If you can suspend belief over the plot, you may find yourself enjoying this read. Book two gets a bit wearing, as "filthy" is overused to emphasize the book's name, and it has shared dialog with book one as it narrates from different POVs, so redundancy is a bit of a problem, too.

Good series.
This diet tells us the stories of two different couple that find each other when they are broken. It shows us their road to finding themselves again and it is a heart breaking journey but both stories end with HEAs so it is worth the read.
My only issue is that I feel like their are still questions to be answered. I want more details on what I feel are important outcomes.... Even With this though I would recommend it.

I think the style was a little simple, the plot not so interesting and the fact what frustrated me most was when the saviour of the slave girl, Adam goes with another saved slave to take revenge. They were planning on killing the slavers and burn them together with the house. To my astonishment they left for this and the next page is says they were back already and revenge was taken, not a word about it in the book. Very frustrating and disappointing.

Two good stories
These books are not for the faint of heart. They are dark and the things done to both lead characters as well as the two that saved them will definitely affect you. It will be hard to read some parts of it.
What I liked was seeing all the main characters rise above anger, humiliation, and deep scars to find peace. I did not like their vengeance or the way it was carried out. Otherwise a nice dark and gritty read.

Great read

An addictive, heartbreaking and uplifting dark love story…
Born into a life of slavery and degradation, Jack is held captive by a promise made as a child ..slavery is all he knows until River comes into his world and everything he believes is turned upside down…
I am in love with this book it has a dark theme and could be depressing but even in the blackest moments there is the promise of something better…The premise is original and captivating..told from the dual perspectives of Jake and River it is fascinating to see the growth in their personalities from victims to masters of their own destiny….Jake is an awesome personality, brooding, understandably angry, he has been brutally deceived and is searching for closure but also there is a sweet innocence in his attitude to life and to love..the supporting cast hold their own they are believable and whether friend, lover or despicable foe they all have a presence on the page…..

Sophia is a slave…it is the only life she has ever known but then fate steps up, in the shape of Adam and she is given not only her freedom but also the opportunity to experience love….
Sophia and Adam take it in turns to narrate their stories…. Sophia has encountered the worst kinds of human cruelty and depravity but despite her degradation she remains strong and resolute…. Adam, an ex marine, has also had more than his fair share of darkness in his life, together they are stronger and more complete but their pasts are always in the background and threaten their futures…the author is so skilled at writing realistic and complex characters even the secondary ones are intriguing and have depth…
Whilst Filthy is a standalone book I think it added to my understanding and enjoyment that I had previously read Dirty the story of River and Jack who also feature in this book…this is most definitely a dark book dealing with dark matters but in addition there is hope, redemption and humanity in the pages …..this is an addictive, challenging and emotional five star read ….I received advanced copies of these books from the author...

Alrighty, book read, emotions are jumbled, my mind is racing and all I can say is holy s___!!!
It wasn’t so long ago I read and reviewed Protector by the very talented author, Michelle Horst. She blew me away with that book.
Now, here I sit again, trying to come up with the best way to describe “Dirty” and give it its just reward without spoilers! Keep in mind that this book comes with a warning for a reason. It is absolutely not for the faint of heart.
Here’s just a few adjectives I came up with to describe this book, but keep in mind there are about 50 others I could have used as well.
Devastatingly shocking, twisted, disturbing, intense and powerful...in the best way, is how I would describe this book. How about a few more? Insanity, angsty, maddening, gut wrenching, terrifying, indescribable pain, riveting, gripping, human depravity, soul damaging of the very worst kind imaginable and unthinkable evil. The list goes on and on.
You just might ask yourself why? Why would I choose to read this book? As someone who read the book I can only say this……
Mixed in with all this madness, depravity and darkness lies human nature at its very best. That’s why…. Just when you think you can no longer bear to read another word, another page, another chapter, Humanity, unrelenting loyalty, selflessness, goodness, soul searching, forgiveness, inner peace, healing, hope and love come out bursting at the seams ready to fight the good fight to overcome the worst kind of evil.
Jack and River. Two broken, lost souls. Each seeking redemption and revenge for different reasons, however twisted and misguided it may seem. Good vs. Evil. Who will win out?
I was completely overwhelmed with the unspeakable brutality that both Jack and River, not to mention, Sophia endured at the hands of the devil himself and his minions.
It’s not an easy read but this type of story isn’t supposed to be easy. If it was, it would not have been as good, in my opinion. The depth and development of the characters was phenomenal. You really got to see inside their souls. I loved all the supporting characters as well.
Even though I’ve finished this story, I find myself being pulled back in just by my memories alone and deep feelings of, well, so many different emotions. I even felt broken and lost. But then I was put back together and was whole again. Let me tell you that there is not an emotion that wasn’t touched upon in this haunting, torture filled, dark, and difficult read. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. This book is proof of that.
I said recently that I don’t know where this author goes inside herself when writing but she sure puts out one hell of an epic read.
You won't come out of this read the same way you were before you read it. So, buckle up, hold on tight and prepare yourself for one hell of a dark ride with “Dirty”. It's unlike anything I've ever read. I loved it! 5 Stars!

I’m finding it more and more difficult to write my reviews on the books I’ve read by Michelle Horst. Why? Because each one so far has touched me so deeply. I want to choose the right words that will depict exactly how this story touched me but I’m struggling with getting my emotions in check.
This book is dark, gritty, raw and emotionally charged. Be prepared though, this read is challenging and not for the faint of heart. I’ve always said the best stories always are.
I have been forever changed since reading Michelle Horst’s 2 book series, A Damaged Romance Duet. The first in the series, Dirty, blew me away with Jack & River’s story and now, after reading the second book, Filthy, I know my heart and soul will never be the same again. Sofia & Adam’s story needed to be told, and told it was.
After being nearly beaten to death, sex slaves Sofia & Jack are rescued by River and her business partner Adam from sex slavery and brought to a secret location. A ranch to heal and live the rest of their lives if they so choose.
Sofia is so damaged that she is incapable of understanding the new, free world around her. Adam takes her under his wing and shows her the way. However hard it may be, he never gives up on her. Even while struggling with his own demons and tortured past.
Here are some excerpts from the book to give you an idea of the damage that was done to Sophia while being raised as a sex slave.
Sofia:

I was completely overwhelmed with the unspeakable brutality that both Jack and River, not to mention, Sophia endured at the hands of the devil himself and his minions.
It’s not an easy read but this type of story isn’t supposed to be easy. If it was, it would not have been as good, in my opinion. The depth and development of the characters was phenomenal. You really got to see inside their souls. I loved all the supporting characters as well.
Even though I’ve finished this story, I find myself being pulled back in just by my memories alone and deep feelings of, well, so many different emotions. I even felt broken and lost. But then I was put back together and was whole again. Let me tell you that there is not an emotion that wasn’t touched upon in this haunting, torture filled, dark, and difficult read. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. This book is proof of that.
I said recently that I don’t know where this author goes inside herself when writing but she sure puts out one hell of an epic read.
You won't come out of this read the same way you were before you read it. So, buckle up, hold on tight and prepare yourself for one hell of a dark ride with “Dirty”. It's unlike anything I've ever read. I loved it! 5 Stars!

I’m finding it more and more difficult to write my reviews on the books I’ve read by Michelle Horst. Why? Because each one so far has touched me so deeply. I want to choose the right words that will depict exactly how this story touched me but I’m struggling with getting my emotions in check.
This book is dark, gritty, raw and emotionally charged. Be prepared though, this read is challenging and not for the faint of heart. I’ve always said the best stories always are.
I have been forever changed since reading Michelle Horst’s 2 book series, A Damaged Romance Duet. The first in the series, Dirty, blew me away with Jack & River’s story and now, after reading the second book, Filthy, I know my heart and soul will never be the same again. Sofia & Adam’s story needed to be told, and told it was.
After being nearly beaten to death, sex slaves Sofia & Jack are rescued by River and her business partner Adam from sex slavery and brought to a secret location. A ranch to heal and live the rest of their lives if they so choose.
Sofia is so damaged that she is incapable of understanding the new, free world around her. Adam takes her under his wing and shows her the way. However hard it may be, he never gives up on her. Even while struggling with his own demons and tortured past.
Here are some excerpts from the book to give you an idea of the damage that was done to Sophia while being raised as a sex slave.
Sofia:
“I feel lost in this world of pain I’ve been thrown into. It feels as if my reality has been fractured. I’m unwanted. I’m filthy. Without a purpose, I’m nothing. My thoughts and emotions are a mess. It feels as if they hollowed me out and stuffed me full of pain.”
“I crumble against him. I feel no fear. I feel no urge to please. I feel no need to belong. I only feel fractured and filthy.”
Adam:

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…… Michelle Horst’s ability to reach inside herself and write such addicting, powerful, emotionally packed, gut wrenching, heart breaking, captivating and soul changing stories is, in my opinion, a gift to all who read her books.
Do you have what it takes to take the journey with Sofia and Adam as they both heal and find love? I sure hope so. If not, you will be missing out on a truly wonderful, beautiful love story. Actually, it’s so much more than that!
