This book shares interesting facts about the Alligator mississippiensis that lives in the southeastern swamps of the United States. It tells how it makes its nest and lays up to forty eggs, and how it protects the eggs from animals that like to eat eggs. The babies are only nine inches when hatched, but some grow up to at least ten feet long or longer.

For an early nonfiction book this is very good! Lots of good facts re alligators! Children will like this as an early nonfiction chapter book
