Clear, step-by-step, helpful, beautifully illustrated solutions for just about every possible question or issue an aging (40 plus) person could face. Like a book full of all of the helpful magazine articles you have ever encountered, but all in one place.
I'm rating between 3 or 4 stars. This has a friendly tone, helpful tips, nicely organized. Nothing new or profound, but it solidifies advice I've read elsewhere. I like it when health books agree. The ones that offer vastly different "scientific proof" concern and frustrate me.
Note to publishers/printers - please don't use green pages with black text. Especially for a health book aimed at "older" readers. It is hard on the eyes. Thankfully the majority of the book has the normal white background and black text, but each chapter ended with tips entitled "Small Steps" that I skipped because of the green/black eyestrain.
I cannot say enough good things about this wonderful book. It is well written, well organized, and contains clever strategies for we ladies “of a certain age”. The last chapter is essentially a handy check list of things we should be doing and in what time frame. And lastly, Barbara Hannah Grufferman gives us permission to make the relationship we have with ourselves our most important relationship. Well done!
The author gathered quotes, tidbits, suggestions, lists, and random facts together to help reader develop healthy habits. Grufferman focuses many on common sense ideas and highlights material through sidebars, changes in fonts, pictures, and other formatting tools. The author did not provide references or support for recommend physical, medical, and psychological activities. Two other issues are font size and lack of an index. This limits accessibility for a portion of the target audience.
This is a great book for those wanting to make the most of their post-retirement lives. It is a book for on-going use, not a one-and-done read, because it addresses a range of experiences and situations. None of those are applicable to everyone, and those that are, don't arise all at once. But if achieving (or maintaining) health, wisdom and wealth - this is a very useful starting place.
Always put yourself first! Self-love is the golden ticket to a happy, healthy life. Sounds selfish? No. It's smart! During the reading, I began to develop some new habits, like doing more physical exercise per day, doing few minutes meditation, lowering expectation for others, etc. Thanks to this book, I started to put myself no.1 priority.
Learned some valuable things to work on in this book. There is a lot of useful information to help me, now that I have reached 50. I will incorporate things one at a time, and build better healthier habits.
Very practical sound advice in small bites and also applicable to my current age. Making good habits and breaking bad ones a little at a time seems reasonable not overwhelming.
