Barry Ablett is a UK-based illustrator who enjoys creating traditional and digital artwork and has 15 years experience working in all areas of illustration, including editorial, publishing, packaging and advertising.

He loves reading books and illustrating stories and his images have appeared in over thirty titles in the UK and around the world. His published books include illustrated adaptations of Charles Dickens novels, poetry books, and non fiction books on London and famous buildings.

He likes listening to music, vintage posters, cricket and all things illustration. Your family's eyes will be as big as the moon when they see the box. In my opinion, when you get Dear Polar Bear in the mail you will not do anything except read! One reason you should read this book is, it is extremely hilarious. when postman penguin gets tired carrying the letters so he faints out of breath at the end. According to the book, polar bear is sending letters to make his igloo GLAM! Postman penguin has to carry all the letters. Another reason you should read this book is, it is REALLY interesting when you wonder what is in the surprise box in the end of the story. For example, his friends mail themselves to the Arctic in a large box and postman penguin needs to rest after carrying the... BOX OF ANIMALS! In Dear Polar Bear you will go NUTS and bounce off the walls reading Dear Polar Bear.

Actually read this one a while back but just pulled it out again for storytime last week.


A MUST READ if you are doing a lesson on letter writing. Which we weren't and the kids still enjoyed it so much.

This book is basically about a polar bear and his friends. Kids will like this book because of the friendship aspects and all the things that the polar bear's friends go through to get him his letter and make him feel special.

What a fun book! We get lots of requests to read this one. Our daughter particularly likes helping by opening the letters. She has also spent a lot of time just exploring the pages, because the illustrations have a lot to offer, beyond just being paired with the text. Read more ...
