What I love most about WHEN WE BECAME FOUR: A MEMORY BOOK FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY, is that it's inclusive. No one gets left out (i.e., grandparents, cousins, aunts/uncles, and other loved ones). From the parent's first meeting and falling in love, to baby one, baby two, and everything in-between—including a place to note not only the silver linings (best thing about being pregnant), but the "small clouds," too (worst thing about being pregnant). The author makes it easy and fun (explosive poops need changing!) to capture family moments. This is a top-notch gift for yourself and others.

This fabulous book helps the family create a narrative of that chaotic yet amazing time when the second baby enters the picture and the former star of the show -- the first born -- becomes the older, wiser sibling! Okay, full-disclosure, I wrote it. My goal in writing this memory book was similar to my goals for "When We Became Three: A Memory Book for the Modern Family." It was to create a fun, optimistic, easy to use way to record the memories, milestones and feelings of a once in a lifetime event: the birth of a child. "When We Became Three" tells the story of that freewheeling couple transitioning into parents and their first child, an eating, sleeping, pooping machine transitioning into the cutest little person. (It records baby's firsts along with parent’s firsts.) Like "WWNThree", this is one is funny ("If you were a baby animal you'd be a pirahna: constantly sniping at mom, a puppy: joyous and playful, a koala: sleepy and cuddly, or a howler monkey: constantly wailing). It's empowering and gives everyone including the Big Sib a voice ("You see Baby as: "a future best friend and playmate, someone to care for and teach," etc.). And it can be done in real time or in hindsight because it is based on feelings and memories but not dates -- this way, every second born can get a memory book! With imaginative checklists, evocative prompts and room for details, it is also a great rainy-day activity to do with the oldest child to ease jealousy and promote goodwill between the siblings.

Filling out this journal together is an interactive, lovely way to spend together as a family. The end result is a wonderful family keepsake journal that will be as much fun to leaf through together later as it is to create.

See that cover…Isn’t it the cutest? I love it! And the memory book inside is just as cute. I wish we had had this book when we had our kids!

I love the way this book has places for everything. There is a spot for the story of the start of the family. Also spots for recording things about the Big Sib. As well as spaces for tons of things relating to the new baby, from morning sickness to age two. I love how the author of this one includes the whole family, with places for pictures and stories and clever check lists.

This book will be a treasured keepsake for many years to come! This would be the perfect gift for anyone you know whose family will be becoming four soon.
