Dear Santa, I think Daddy needs a girlfriend. He needs someone to take care of him. She has to cook and like outdoor stuff. She has to like kids, ‘cause I have a little brother. And she has to be pretty, like the Christmas Princess. I love that movie! I want Daddy’s girlfriend to be nice like the princess and be good to everyone. She can’t be mean, like the Ice Queen! Oh, and there’s another thing I want. I’ll tell you when I see you at the Christmas Pageant! Love, Jennifer Grading the students’ papers, Noel Winter lays the child’s Christmas letter down on her desk and wonders exactly what surprises might be in store this Christmas... Jennifer’s father, Rex Presley, made quite an impression at Parent Conferences. And it had nothing to do with his plaid coat or ruggedly, handsome good looks. He’s got a chip on his shoulder, and his hands full, raising two kids on his own. So why can’t she stop thinking about him? **** Author’s This is a full length novel with lots of steamy romance and a happily ever after. This book contains sexual content and language. *** Bonus content included. ***
This is the second book by Cass Michaels that I’ve read, but certainly not the second story because I had been following her writing even before she decided to get it published. And it’s a great pleasure to see how far she’s come and how true she’s stayed to herself. "Chasing Winter" has all the 'trademarks' I’ve come to associate with this author: a love story that stays clear of clichés, humor mixed in liberally, believable characters that seem plucked right out of real life, an irresistible mix of sweetness and steamy sensuality, and passages that feel as if they were inspired by the author herself or by the story of many a woman out there fighting for control over her (love) life.
Noel comes across as sassy and independent but also caring and kind. She shines as a teacher and as a companion and mother figure for Rex’s adorable little children. As for Rex, he doesn’t strike me as the usual hero type but definitely had me falling for him. The mix of brooding, stubborn, strong and loving is really great, and it goes well with Noel’s spunk. Both of them have a lot to learn and their own shadows to jump over, but once they do, they’re almost as magical together as the Christmas atmosphere surrounding this romance novel.
If you enjoy stories that tug at the heartstrings and make you question a few things, this is a Christmas treat right up your alley.
4 stars for Chasing Winter by Cass Michaels. This is my first book from this author, but it will not be my last. Rex is a single dad and seems to be a little on the grumpy side. Noel is Rex’s daughter’s teacher. She is friendly, caring and seems to like Rex but isn’t sure she can date someone with two children. Rex doesn’t know how to trust women because his ex-wife is a piece of work. Neither of these two know how to be in a healthy, good relationship. I enjoyed this feel good romance. It was a fast and easy read. It gave me many feels and there were a few steamy scenes. I love Noel’s character. I can say I wished I had a teacher like her growing up. This was a great book and worth the read.
I read the look-inside preview on the website before deciding to buy this book and the first couple of paragraphs were enough to make me want to read more. I wanted to find out how things turn out for the heart-broken child and her teacher, who I just knew was headed for romance with the child's father.
It's an engaging read; the characters felt believable and the story is well-told. It's steamier that my usual reading material, but readers are warned upfront that the book contains sexual content and language.
I enjoyed this book much more than Cass Michaels's first book. There were still some editing and proofreading issues, but it's a cute story and a nice read coming up to Christmas.
