Colors Are Nice
A beloved 1962 Little Golden Book about colors (and not just primary ones) is back in print!
"I like the way the sky is blue,
And I like orange oranges, too.
But I LOVE mixed-up colors best—
A baby robin's speckled breast,
Blackish dots on greenish frogs,
Rainbow beetles under logs."
This poetic look at colors, told in simple rhyme, celebrates not only primary colors, but "colors all mixed up!" Cheerful, elegant rhyme teaches about stripes, sparkles, and spots on adorable animals and in beautiful landscapes. Noted illustrator Leonard Shortall's lush illustrations of adorable animals and children will once again captivate little ones.

This was both pleasurable to read and look at. Darling illustrations of a farm, a treehouse, and other things children recognize and love.
Ages: 2 - 4
Here’s our book favs on color: watch my reel!
Content Considerations: nothing to note.
**Like my reviews? Then you should follow me! Because I have hundreds more just like this one. With each review, I provide Content Considerations, mentioning any objectionable content I come across so that parents and/or conscientious readers (like me) can determine beforehand whether they want to read a book or not. Content surprises are super annoying, especially when you’re 100+ pages in, so here’s my attempt to help you avoid that!
If you’re considering a book or looking for a new title to read, check out my highly categorized shelves, read my reviews and Friend or Follow me to spiff up your feed with clean, wholesome, living books.
I have an Instagram account that’s pretty bookishly unique too!

A Little Golden Book from my youth, re-read as an adult. More or less what the title says. It is a testament to the book that I remember some of the illustrations 35 years or so after first seeing them.

Read this book to the kids tonight, and they both enjoyed it. Actually, I enjoyed it too. The author, Adelaide Holl, did a great job with her poetry, and the illustrator, Leonard Shortall, did an excellent job creating vibrant pictures for us to look at. Our little boy has been learning his colors, and this book helped him out even more. He was able to show me the color red and the color green tonight, and our little girl was able to say the word "rainbow". It's a blessing to see them grow. And it's a blessing to see them take an interest in books.

Nice illustrations and entertaining poetry.

Very confusing for children when the book mentions shapes and patterns and then says how great their colours are.

All the colors that make life bright in nature and in ink/paint. Oh, how I enjoy playing with colors when I scrapbook.

Very cute children's book in rhyme. I love the '60s illustrations!

One of my favorites as a child largely due to the lovely illustrations. My son picked this to read this afternoon. He liked it. His one criticism was that the story does not match the cover image. He expected a story about painting. ;)
