In the Flow: Bridging the Science and Practice of Mindfulness will change the way you live your life! In clear and captivating style, neuroscientist, Dr. Deborah Norris, lays out new theories in the science of mindfulness, revealing how simple practices are able to remove our roadblocks to health and happiness. You can get back In the Flow and live the life of your own choosing by identifying and using mindfulness practices that work for you.
Deboarah Norris comes to the subject of mindfulness from a non-spiritual route, using science to help us understand why mindfulness works.
She then connects it to the work of Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, who has studied flow states - and shows how mindfulness can not only help us cope with anxiety and worry, but can also be used to optimise our states of flow - the periods where we are subsumed by what we are doing, and life and time just "flows".
Can be a bit dry and academic in parts, but generally it's an easy and interesting read.
This book is required reading for my Mindfulness Meditation Teacher training program. It offers a solid scientific understanding of meditation. Dr Norris is one of my instructors - she’s amazing to study from, rich was both science and applicable experience!
