T.D. Ashcraft created his fun-loving title character, Bump, in 2008. Pulling inspiration from some of his favorite childhood Authors like Dr. Seuss and Mike Higgs, Ashcraft began writing Bump’s series of adventures. Four years later, Ashcraft decided to explore the option of getting published. He signed his first publishing contract in April, 2012. In April, 2013, his first book, Bump the Monster, was released and his dream of becoming a published Author was realized.
Ashcraft’s stories are written to appeal to children and parents alike. The characters are colorful, creative, and fun and each adventure teaches an important lesson while maintaining a rhyming pattern that’s easy to read.
Ashcraft lives near Columbia, SC with his wife and their three kids.
Bump is a blue and orange monster who lives under the bed in a secret place. At night, Bump comes out to play, sometimes bringing his friends along. While Bump’s friends tend to hide due to their extreme shyness, Bump is always happy to make you smile. He is small, friendly, polite, and the best friend a child could have.
I quite enjoyed reading this wonderful story, as it teaches children that those scary noises that they sometimes hear in the night are nothing like the frightening images which their imaginations conjure up. T.D. Ashcraft has cleverly shown that although a noise which occurs in the dark might seem scary to a child’s ears, those noises could be made by wonderful things, such as new friends from a different land. Using your imagination for positivity instead of conjuring up negative thoughts will not only help you to relax, but might also make you fall asleep with a smile, as you float into a beautiful new world made up of amazing and colorful creatures who want nothing more than to play and be your friend. I recommend Bump the Monster to all young children who are afraid of the dark, showing that the only things that live there are the things that live inside your imagination – make them bright and fun so you can travel to their world when you fall asleep.
I thought that this was such a sweet book. It’s a fun way to dispel ‘monsters under the bed’, and explain to little ones why they shouldn’t be scared. I’ve read it to my kids, and I always include this book with baby shower presents.
