I really enjoyed What Happens in Summer. It was a fun, sexy read written by an author who knows how to draw her readers in, give them a good time and bring them to a sweet, romantic happily-ever-after.

Jonathan Pierce was a fun guy. He knew how he wanted to live his life and it wasn't by his father's rules. He also didn't fit into the mold that Connie is looking for. He's spontaneous. He's free-spirited. He's loyal. He's made millions by his tinkering and wanderlust. But, Connie or his

Jonathan “Jon” Pierce is the black sheep second son of a wealthy family. He is a self-educated inventor, whose invention has made him a multimillionaire. Jonathan decides to put down roots in Sea Kiss, a town along the Jersey Shore, to be near his older brother. Fate throws Connie back into his life, and things escalate fast between them. To pave a future with Connie, he must resolve his issues with both of his parents. Can Jonathan prove to Connie that he is a

Oh Connie! I get that your dad left, but that does not mean that Jonathan is just like him. Walking out on your family is not the same as travelling the world and finding your passion. But hey a book needs drama so let us begin.

Connie and Jonathan shared a summer long ago. But he dropped out of College and she went on to become a lawyer cos she wanted stability.

But they always meet again since her BFF is neighbor to his family, and cos her BFF Maggie and Owen, J's brother hooked up in book 1.

Part of Connie's story takes place at the same time as Maggie's (book 1). And yes, I was right.
Connie and Jon fell in love one summer while both were in college. Differences led to their breakup. This being romancelandia, neither quite forgot the other and the flame still burns. They re-connect years later. Jon is a successful inventor and Connie a successful lawyer.
While I did like this and was invested in the story, I felt for 2 adults (mid-late twenties) this was way too angsty. I lost track

I found Jonathan a very fun and spontaneous guy, a perfect guy to date when you are young and reckless, the only problem with a guy like this is that you fear that is all they ever want, to have fun. He didn't want to live with the rules his father wanted to set on him so he broke out of them. Connie is the opposite of Jonathan in fact she is too rigid and doesn't know how to have fun. She was a little annoying at times.
I think that they made a good couple. Jonathan brings the fun out in Connie

Overall an enjoyable book. A few unexpected twists that made a refreshing change from other books in this genre. Pineiro definitely gives a satisfying read, though at times I did feel as if the primary roadblocks for the main characters was gnawed at a few too many times.

Lacked umph. DNF-ed at 33% when I realized I was only continuing on because of the dog, and he wasn't in it enough.

What Happens in Summer is a nice beach read with friends and families, both steamy and sweet romance along with love. There’s of course dysfunction, angst and discord as well as lives to be lived that isn’t always in sync with the others. The book takes place in New Jersey and New York City with the shore playing a big part. Jon and Owen have a family beach house in Sea Kiss as does Maggie’s
Another enjoyable, easy read in this series with a second-chance at love, some great friendships, and a totally adorable pup named Dudley!

I just loved Jonathan. Despite being disowned by his father, he’s managed to become very successful, taking his own path in life and doing things his own way. This path has given him a bit of reputation as a playboy and wanderer, but now he’s ready to put down some roots, and coming face to face with the girl from his past, he knows just who he wants to create

Books with Hispanic heroines are rare, so I was excited that What Happens in Summer had a leading lady with Cuban heritage. Unfortunately, that heritage played no significant part in the story and the book itself was a very average romance.

Connie Reyes has a plan for her life, a plan that doesn’t include being dependent on a man. Ever. For anything. So, when she falls in love with Jonathan (Jon) Pierce during summer break while still in college, she’s stunned. That hadn’t been on the agenda, but

I enjoyed Jon and Connie’s romance, even when I got a bit frustrated by Connie’s trust issues. Jon has his own trust issues, yet I found his easier to follow along with his progress than I did Connie. Her inability, due to her mother’s life and actions, to take Jon’s interest at face value and not be constantly waiting for him to break her heart by leaving again truly broke my own heart and frustrated it as well. The clues, the tells that Jon has changed over the

So, there's that saying "opposites attract" that is demonstrated in real life and in fiction. Rich/poor. Fire/ice. Popular/nerdy. Free spirit/disciplined. Whatever pairing I have come across, whether in real life or in fiction, I have found that those differences are what makes for strong couples. It's not power play. It's not submission. It's balance. Yin and yang. A complemented pairing that works.

Connie and Jonathan have been different since before now. She refused to be like her mother so

Many years ago Jonathan Pierce and Connie Reyes had a little teenage fling, they were madly in love one minute, and then they were not the next, and shortly after things fizzled out between them they went their separate ways and they haven't spoken since. But now they find themselves attending the same wedding, and Jonathon would love nothing more than to use the opportunity to show Connie he is a better man, one that will treat her the way he should have treated her back then... but Connie has ...more

This book picks up where the last book ended. Plus you also get the back story of Connie Reyes who is now an attorney for a big law firm in New York, and Jonathon Pierce. Jonathon who has been disowned by his father now has started his own company and is very successful. Along with his partners they are looking at building a new factory in the town he has always considered his home. Now he is on a mission to somehow convince Connie that she is the one for him. I received an Advanced Reader Copy. I am voluntarily leaving a review. This is the second book of the At the Shore series. I doubly love the book because I am from the Jersey Shore and while the name of the town is fictional. many the places are based on real locations here. This story is about Connie and Jonathan, who had a summer fling while they were in college. Even though they were madly in love, their own baggage comes between them. Connie is friends with Maggie, who has a house at the and ...more

I read book one of this series, so I was excited to see book two available.

What I loved: Hmmm....not entirely sure that I LOVED anything about this. It was a nice story, but I can't say LOVE....enjoyed yes,
What I liked: I really liked this story. It was exactly what I expected and there is nothing wrong with that.
What I hated: This reiterated book one...ALOT. That started to drive me crazy. It was kind of interesting

This book is a great beach read!!!! The story takes place on the Jersey shore. Connie Reyes and Jonathan Pierce only realized how different they both were after a magical summer spent on the Jersey shore. She was ambitious and practical he was artistic and rebellious. Their parting was heartrending the years have only made a reunion less possible. Now Jonathan is back having made a fortune in tech. He has everything money can buy but his bed is empty and his heart is hollow. He has never stopped ...more

A quick and easy summer read. Starts out years ago, when Connie and Jon are having a summer fling. When Connie is obsessed with want security, after her father's fly by night style, she and Jon have a big fight, when he doesn't want to go back to college. Years later, they meet up again, when her best friend and his brother are getting married. Sparks are still there, and after a lot of give and take, there is a HEA. This is the second book in the series, and while I didn't read that one I had ...more

I found this book on NetGalley and loved the cute cover. After reading the description I wanted to read the book however I should have stopped there. Unfortunately this was a DNF at about 40%. I had a hard time getting into the book (the formatting for me didn’t help) and connecting with the characters.

This is a sweet summer second chance romance with two likeable characters. Connie has a difficult time trusting Jonathan after he broke her heart as teenagers. Will she be able to trust him or will she lose him due to her inability to see the new Jonathan? Reading this by the pool is a perfect way to spend a summer day!

What Happens in Summer by Caridad Piñeiro is a sexy, second-chance, feel-good, contemporary romance where you can't help but fall in love with Jonathan Pierce. Gosh, is he sexy?!
