Rate this book
This thoughtful, engaging book is packed with helpful hints, tips, and techniques for helping children learn to recognize and express their emotions.

Feelings can be complicated, and learning to express them is a skill that must be developed. My Mixed Emotions is here to coach children through a variety of emotions and situations including dealing with bullying, understanding grief, and coping with large family changes, such as divorce.

Divided into happiness, fear, anger, and sadness, My Mixed Emotions explores the four main emotions, the reasons why we feel them, and the science behind each one. Children will discover great things about themselves, such as what happens in their brain when they are happy, why they cry when they are sad, and why they sometimes feel nervous.

My Mixed Emotions will become a friend and guide as children travel through the mixed-up world of emotions to discover the wonderful, unique person that they are.

This is a wonderful book for parents and preschoolers for understanding emotions. The book breaks down the four main emotions; happiness, sadness, anger and fear. It talks about what our body is going through when we experience these emotions and what might be triggering us to feel this way.
Wonderful pictures and descriptions! Great resource for a preschool or parent of a little one with big emotions. Sometimes it’s hard to understand what we’re feeling and this is a great tool to help make sense of it all.
Thank you to DK and NetGalley for this wonderful e-copy! We will be looking at this book in class today!

An Excellent book to start to relate to human emotions. I believe emotions are extremely important.

We all need to be aware of emotions of ourselves and others. Few years ago, I came across Emotion Wheel. It's a great tool to help us grow in that area. I think in Computing world, this is not kept important.

This book gives a starting point to emotions. I liked how each emotion is made up of basic emotions. Jealous is anger and disgust. Great Recommendation for Adults and Children

When my daughter turned eight, I started introducing books about emotions to our bed time stories. This was the first one we read through to learn about different emotions and how to deal with them. The book classifies the emotions to Happiness, Sadness, Anger, and Fear. It includes definitions with many colorful pictures and examples, explaining various situations for that feeling and how a child may deal with it.

As a parent I found the book a good introduction, however my daughter didn’t look forward to reading it because it was not said as a story.

My Mixed Emotions is a great resource for young children! The images are bold and engaging and the text easily flows in a way that even young children can understand. It really breaks down emotions, even complex ones, and help kids to understand each feeling and what happens in their body when they are feeling those emotions. It really helps children identify and express a wide range of emotions. We have an ebook version of this but I'm going to add the physical copy to our library! I read it with my 1st grader, it has helped us to talk more openly about emotions and how we can manage them in positive ways. It's also been really helpful with my younger, preschool aged, daycare children, It helps them identify emotions and learn to express themselves more clearly.

Thanks DK Children and NetGalley for the ARC of this title. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

This is a fantastic book! Great resource for kids, parents, and educators. Happy, Sad, having the blues, fear, jealousy... and many more emotions are covered. There is also a great section on bullying. Loved the quote, "Don't suffer in silence. Tell! Tell! Tell!".

I received a digital ARC through NetGalley from the publisher.

My Mixed Emotions breaks down complex emotions on an easy-to-understand level so that children can process and work out their feelings. Each emotion is discussed in a way that explains what the feeling actually is, what may be behind the feeling, what happens to the body while this emotion is happening, and steps to take to calm/quiet/promote the feeling (depending on the emotion). The book also discusses tough situations like bullying and divorce. I initially read this book to see if it could help me explain and work with one of my children on understanding her feelings. I'm going to get her a physical copy so that she can reference this as many times as she needs. The illustrations are also helpful, bright, and encouraging. I would highly recommend this book to children ages 5-10 who needs reassurance or guidance about their emotions.

This book explains the types of emotions and their effects on the body for children.
It is very important to control emotions, especially anger from childhood.

As this book says, anger is a bomb.
When it catches fire, it explodes and burns up.
And when the kid grows up to be an angry person, the kid is more likely to get involved in crime.

Also, when the person gets angry, his brain won't be able to recognize the subject, so he will be bullying himself, and he will end up becoming severely depressed and depressed.

Even if you explain the logic of emotions to your kids, it may be difficult for them to understand.
First of all, it's a good idea to get your kids into the habit of not getting angry.

Another wonderful book for kids on expressing and handling their feelings. Each chapter is broken up into different emotions--happiness, anger, fear sadness, and then the last chapter is about being proud of who you are and believing in yourself. This book was a great springboard for talking to my daughter about different issues that kids face such as grief, bullying, divorce, worrying, and feeling different (to name a few). The book gave great examples in each chapter that my 6-year-old daughter could relate to. I especially loved how the book explained what the brain and body does when feeling different emotions. I have to say that I learned a lot from this book as well.

Despite this book being targeted to children, I still find this book interesting, although I already knew some of the pieces of information presented in the book. These past few days, I struggle in handling my emotions, maybe due to burnout, and this book feels welcoming as it helps me to becoming in control of my emotions again. I recommed this, of all ages, especially the children, of course, so they won't adapt unhealthy ways of coping with their emotions, rooted from what their family and the society had taught them.

This is an upbeat and positive book that helps kids to identify and manage a wide variety of emotions. It is brightly illustrated (as can be seen from the cover) and somewhat interactive.

Four big emotions are featured here. They include happy, sad, fearful and angry. No judgment is attached to what some might consider “negative” feelings.

This book will be welcomed by parents, teachers, mental health providers and, of course, kids. It is a nice resource.

Many thanks to NetGalley and DK for this title. All opinions are my own.

I really liked it.

I liked the fact that it explains in a scientific way how emotions are created, how important they are and why, as well as giving practical advice for dealing with emotional outbursts.

However, they graphics were very busy and I believe that the parent should read it together with the child. That's not an issue for me though because I find it a great bonding experience.

A well thought-out book on the issues of feelings, and how to handle them in certain situations. The chapters cover the emotions of feeling happy, angry, fear, sadness, and the wonder of each person as an individual, and examples and exercises to understanding all that is involved in recognizing one's worth.

I'm not sure what age group this is for. It looks like it is for K-2nd but there is way too much information. If the target was 3rd-5th, it's colorful but the illustrations are babyish. I think that this could be used in a one on one counseling session but not as a book that kids would read by themselves.

This is a great addition to our SEL collection. The emotions are divided into 5 sections with great infographics and images to support student learning. This is a great resource to help kids identify their emotions and strategies to deal with those feelings.

I have been kind of looking around for a book that describes emotions in a simplistic style and makes it easy to understand. When I saw this book I was thinking that I had found an answer.

Upon looking at the Table of Contents I found myself disappointed for it seemed that their idea of simplifying was just a few basic emotions.

Yep so far I haven't been the brightest bulb when it has come to the book. The actual book itself though is much, much more than either of my first two judgments.

Although it focuses on just a few basic emotional blocks the book does go further into studying some other "secondary" feelings based upon that block. As a result the reader will get definitons on a few feelings that will help them to tell the difference between some that seem so very similar.

The book also starts going deeper with exercises to help you control your emotions, explanations on why you feel that way or how it makes others feel, what your tears are composed of, etc. As a result it becomes a very heavy-reading book.

There are illustrations that gives the reader insight into the brain, cubical shaped emotions and a few others to break-up the wordiness but I fee it wasn't enough. As a result a book I was thinking was for young children is more than likely to be better off for children that are further up in the grade school level and maybe even more likely middle schoolers who might not want to know about all this by that age.

From the company that it came from it would meet the expectations I have come to expect from them on being an informative and educational book. But for the type of book it was mentioned as being I think it went too far, which as a result makes it an overload to any reader who picks it up.

This book is a perfect introduction to emotions for kids. I thought the layout was appealing, timely (the emojis!) and great for young elementary students. My favorite page was the silhouette bodies that were lit up with the places you may feel a certain emotion (example: happy might be felt in your heart). I think it was a great visual representation of the common feelings we have and why a feeling can impact the rest of our body and mood. The tips for helping move beyond a feeling and realizing that feelings are scientific make this a powerful tool for teachers, parents and counselors.
