Part one is in the form of a diary, written by Chelsey Hellman, and covering the last months in the life of his partner and wife, Wally Bishop, who is suffering from Alzheimer's. Part two is an account, in third person, present tense, of a motorcycle trip Chesley takes with his daughter, Sarah, some months after Wally's death. Part three is Sarah's account of the death of her father in a motorcycle accident and what happens in the days and weeks that follow.
