This was a quick read. A very quick read. But, it was entertaining. Kind of like cotton candy, which I love. But, I couldn't eat it everyday.
What did I like about this book? I liked the characters. I thought they were believeable and interesting. I thought they were three dimensional, even given how short the book was, and how much plot she had to work in. Secondary characters in this book were cardboard cutouts, even the main secondaries like the ex girlfriend, the roommate, and the overbearing father. They had a bit more heft to them, but no real depth.
I also liked how it seemed very authentic. When the ex girlfriend pulls her stunt, and all is revealed at the end, there is no instantaneous "all is forgiven" moment. Hell no, all ain't forgiven. I started to roll my eyes a bit at the white guy likes hip hop, black chick likes country element thrown in, but Amos makes it make sense. Why wouldn't she like country music, born and raised a Texan? And white guys liking hip hop isn't even unusual enough to mention, so it worked. I like how she called him out on the hip hop only to have him not even understand why she'd think it was unusual. It all seemed very realistic to me.
I liked the fact that the race issue got a passing mention and that was it. If this is a trend in interracial romance books, I like it! It got a mention because it isn't completely a non-issue in Texas oil baron social society and/or political circles. But, it was hardly the focus of the story. I don't even think it was the focus of the paragraph where it got a mention. Perfect. It was almost a throwaway line, and that's exactly where it should be.
The ending was good. Almost tips the scale of believability, but then it all falls into place. The only thing I wish was that this book was longer and Amos had more time to develop these characters properly. And, when you want more of the book, that is always a good thing!
P.S. Oh yeah, and the sex was HAWT!

Shondra Braddock takes a job with Stewart Industries to find clues about the possible murder of her father. Right from their initial meeting she captures the attention of Connor James Stewart, the heir apparent of the company. Though she works for him, they both throw caution to the wind over an impromptu weekend getaway. She wants to confide in him but when she overhears a conversation where he's being blackmailed she realizes she can only trust herself and her brothers. The story ends on a HFN note and the mystery continues across two additional books.
This book is part of series and begins with Her Lover's Legacy by Adrianne Byrd and continues with this book, Sex and the Single Braddock by Robyn Amos where the mystery isn't resolved. The third book in the series is Second Chance, Baby by AC Arthur where the mystery continues and concludes with The Object of His Protection by Brenda Jackson where the mystery is finally solved.

Mixing Business With Pleasure...
This is the second installment to "The Braddock's Secret Son" series. The saga continues with the quest for the truth behind the sudden and mysterious death of Harmon Braddock. In this installment we get to meet Harmon's hardworking, very serious daughter, Shondra. Shondra takes a job at Stewart Industries in an attempt uncover the mystery behind her fathers secret business trips and phone calls to SI. On a mission to find any/all the information she can, she's TOTALLY caught off guard by the INSTANT attraction to the very sexy, charming and quite daring Connor Stewart. Connor is totally captivated by Shondra and he pulls out all the romantic stops in attempt to capture her heart. This is the first novel I've read by Mrs. Robyn Amos and she does a great job with this continuity series. She keeps you entertained with a memorable cast of characters and a sweet, sensual, and VERY romantic storyline. The scenario with the blind date was HILARIOUS! And the on again/off again ex-girlfriend is a piece of work, and should have been on the receiving end of a good ol' fashion beat-down" for all her the CRAZY stunts she pulls throughout. Definitely looking forward to the continuation of this series.

Sex and the Single Braddock. The book was exciting! The saga continues with the sister of the Braddock family. Shondra decides to take things in her own hands. She is determined find out what happened with her father. The family believes their father may have been murdered instead of an accident. She got a job at the Stewart Industries where her father last called a woman there. Shondra felt that she could pose as a worker and talk to some of the workers and get information. She meets the son of the owner, Conner, and tries to get information from him. To her surprise she falls for him and they strike up a relationship that may cause trouble in her finding out information.

I like the chemistry that Conner and Shondra had from the very beginning. I think that they should've been hired a private detective to get to the bottom of everything. I'm glad that Conner and Shondra are on the same page and all the secrets are out of the way.

Exceptional writing ✍🏾
This is an interesting book that focuses on multiple topics making this book, of the series, individual. The characters had different musical tastes than expected. I enjoyed that interracial issue was not a controversy. There is funny quips, eating when upset to belonging to the " mile high" club.

Never know where love is waiting
Shontae was looking for info on her father's death when she found love. Connor knew she was different from the beginning. Great read.

I was excited to see Harlequin releasing another bwwm IR novel. They seem to come out like Haley's comet over there so fellow fans like myself of this subgenre have to grab em while they can.
I'm happy to say that S&SB does not disappoint in all aspects of telling a great story. If you're like me and haven't read all of the Braddock series, you won't be lost a bit as all the Braddock siblings are explained in detail.
I won't rehash the synopsis as it is available in the link below on the HQN book page, but I will say what I really enjoyed about the book.
First of all it's characters. Shondra is a strong female without being too close offish. Due to her father's death she's a bit vulnerable and although she is really attracted to the hero (who's seriously a babe, who can blame her?) she wants to tread lightly considering his status in their company. I gotta say much props for the intro of the story to Ms. Amos. I love how the hero and heroine first meet and how they interact right from the beginning. The hero is strong minded, driven and also sensitive and romantic: everything the perfect hero is made of (where can I get me one of him?). I love how they play off each other and the sexual tension is there right from the start. I had to fan myself off now and then!
The loves are hot without being too overly sexual, so if any readers out there are a fan of hot loves scenes without being in your face, you'd be happy here. The race situation is mentioned but doesn't get in the way, which I think is a good thing. During the rise of IRs many bwwm romance books used to place race as a major obstacle and I'm glad it's mentioned here but not the driving force of their problems. Shondra and Connor are mainly treated as a man and woman trying to find a way to each other's hearts despite the workplace and despite the recent death in Shondra's family.
Ms. Amos had me laughing at the interaction between Shondra and Connor, especially over music: he loves hip hop (she's not too familiar with it) and she loves country (he's not too familiar with it) and during a private jet ride to Monte Carlo they discuss this. One of the best lines of the book are in this scene and it's a cheeky one that comes from Connor after they realize the music difference:
"I think we both owe it to our people to fit our assigned stereotypes better."
LOL she had me rolling during this scene and I can could so imagine the facial expressions and voices as they verbally sparred back and forth. And just like good storytelling, a few moments later she nearly had me in tears right there with the hero and heroine as they relived their respective familial losses.
If I had to gripe about one thing I'd say I was kind of bummed about the ending being a happy for now rather than happily ever after. I guess I'm kind of traditional in that I like the couple to make it official with a wedding down the road or at least an engagement. And the two characters felt like they were happy just being physical with each other for now.

This is slow and really didn't keep my interest which is way it took so long to read. It's ok but I think it could have been better.
