God hears us when we pray; no doubt about that. I don't think there's any secret formula for making Him hear us "more." But, there's something special about praying the words of the Bible directly. Maybe it's because those are the words He recorded for us as His own voice to us. When we're praying and are at a loss for what to say, it's always a good idea to go directly to the Bible for inspiration. That's the idea behind "Praying God's Promises: The Life-Changing Prower of Praying the Scripture ...more

Hi Friends! I normally don’t post about religious books, but I was sent Praying God’s Promises as part of a Blind Tour with @justreadtours. This is not a book I would have picked but sometimes things come in to your life just when you need them. I researched that the author, Linda Evans Shepherd, is a best selling author and has over 35 books! .

I have had a lot of serious things going on in my life the few years and having hope and faith is something that I cling to. No matter what you believe i

This is an amazing book, practical book on prayer. I’ve already been encouraged and strengthened by reading this book, and I am learning to pray the Scriptures in a new way. I like how this book is divided into more than twenty different sections: Comfort; Direction; Hope; Protection; Provision; Strength; and many more. Each chapter has a devotion from the author that, along with her personal illustrations, help focus the reader on each topic.

This book is in my shelf so that I use it during my p

I liked reading the introduction from the author and her personal story how prayer and scripture helped her during a trip. I truly believe this is the case, however, I feel that there has to be an element of faith and belief-not just reading a scripture and praying. Sometimes our prayers are not answered right away or burdens lifted quickly if at all; but constant prayer and scripture reading will help us be accepting of our life journey and experiences.

Each chapter includes stories, insight, s

I tried to sit and read this through, but that really isn’t how it should be read. Taking each section and focusing on that section when you need it or have the urge, desire or calling to read it are probably the best ways to read this book. It’s really wonderful reading the scripture the goes with each aspect of life when it’s needed. The author also has suggested prayers for each scripture, which you can either take and pray yourself or compound on them.

While nonfiction books really aren’t my thing, I did enjoy this book. I liked that it was broken down into different topics and that each one had biblical references. I also like the idea of adding a bit of scripture to prayer.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

"Praying God's Promises" is a book that lists a lot of God's promises that are in the Bible. For each of the promises listed out by Scripture there is an agreement / declaration written out so the reader can speak of that promise to God through prayer. The promises are divided into chapter topics and then categories within some of the chapters making it easy for readers to come back to find those promises listed when they need to. Some of God's names are listed in a Name above All Names section ...more

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, as I had never heard of Linda Evans Shepherd before. I really liked the introduction where Linda talks about God being a God of promises and the story she shared of a time when God answered her prayers in a big way.

Each chapter starts with a relevant verse, open with a quote from an author or speaker, and then Linda shares a story of answered prayer from her own life or a friend's life. Then she teaches about one of the names of God before the list o

This is not really a book that I would sit down and read for pleasure. It is more, a book to be used for encouragement in certain situations, and I think that the author has done an outstanding job of covering all the possible life stresses. I was particularly impressed by how well organized the book is and how the author seems to have taken the time to meditate on all of the applicable scriptures, compiled them and presented them in a way that is helpful to her readers. Praying God’s Promises: The Life-Changing Power of Praying the Scriptures is a Christian non-fiction book about prayer.

As you can see from the title, it’s topic is to pray God’s promises in the Scripture back to God and how that can change your life. After the introductory chapters, each chapter is devoted to a topic (e.g. comfort, children, joy, success). And the chapters have some paragraphs explaining the topic, verses that explain what God says about it, and a short prayers after the verses

Around the time I met my wife, Tanya, she had always told me that praying God's promises -- by scripture verse was not simply a good idea, but also activated God's presence in your life. I know that's way before this book was published by Revell, but there's a lot of truth to praying God's promises so it comes as no surprise Linda Evans Shepherd wrote this book just for that reason: to help those of us, like myself to focus better on the person of God and who He is. She says this and I've heard ...more

Praying God's Promises by Linda Evans Shepherd is a wonderful book to keep handy as a reference. Prayer can at times be a challenge - knowing what to pray, what God's Word promises to us, and His will in all that happens.

In the introduction of this book, the author reminds us: "God's promises have the power to calm storms, incite miracles, and best of all, deliver you" (page 12).

Lately I have been reading Praying God's Promises by Linda Evans Shepherd. She has gathered up the promise verses and gathered them for us to read and re-read as we need them. You see, sometimes we need a few encouraging verses and spend time flipping the pages of our bibles for just that one verse. Linda's book is categorized by topic and I find that to be very helpful. If I want to look for verses of Joy or Direction, there is a section of verses covering those topics. While there are no discu ...more

Prayer is such an important part of the Christian life, and I’m always looking for books and lessons on how to strengthen my prayer life. Therefore, I jumped at the chance to read and review Praying God’s Promises by Linda Evans Shepherd. My feelings about this book are mixed, however, and completely my own opinion.

I love the way the book is set up: short, punchy chapters that each have a different theme and the truth within the verses listed. But I had a very hard time following along with my

This book has 27 different topics to guide you in your prayer life. Linda shares a Scripture then under that, she will guide us into prayer using that Scripture. I really loved this as it impressed upon my heart and mind the promises God has for us in all things!

"God is a God of promises." (11)

I've always loved Linda Evans Shepherd's approach to scripture and her books about prayer. We're called to pray and we're assured by God's promises to us in His Book. The author's latest release, Praying God's Promises couldn't come at a better time in my life. It was just what I needed to focus on certain areas, and to read His word and the thoughts in my mind and heart. God has given us many promises and yet so many of us do not see those promises fulfilled. Linda Evans Shepherd has written a wonderful book that will help us move from being frustrated with our prayer life to basking in God's love.

This is not a book to be read in a day or even a week. This is a book that can change how to think about God. I'm currently using it as part of my daily devotions. Each time I open the book, I look forward to what I'm going to learn that day. The Promise Garden is part

If there is something you need prayer for but aren't sure what to pray, pick this book up.

I love how we can use scripture to pray and we should be, so why don't we do it?Well, now we have not excuse. If you have this book you should honestly have a prayer for every situation you face.

I also appreciate that Linda began each chapter with a personal story, if not her own then someone else's and how God worked in their lives and these scriptures we made real to them.

Linda Evans Shepherd has hit the ball out of the park with this one. While this was my first time reading anything by this author, it most assuredly won't be my last. Mrs. Evans has gone above and beyond, collecting scriptures pertinent to basically every area of our life. It is an invaluable resource of hope and comfort, and a tremendous aid to finding God's incredible promises in His Word, and highlighting them. As the author shares in the introduction, God is truly a God of promises. This boo ...more

I loved the inspirational story, and the adventures the author had to take in order to finish this book. People need to read her book because it discussed the teaching of God and Jesus Christ.

This was an excellent read, but also it s a book that you can go to and use as a reference. The way the book is broken down, you can literally go to an issue that you are struggling with and find a scripture reading for that topic. Great book. 5.0 stars.
